Appreciating your loved ones

We know that Mother’s Day can be a tough time for those that don’t have a mum anymore or that never had one. Not everyone has a parent to give Mother’s Day gifts to and to put in the spotlight this day. We hope this day can be a day of appreciation for all those that we love. So, whether you have a mom or not, we hope you’re able to spend this day with loved ones that make you feel at home.

Glamping

Have you ever been glamping? It’s the most luxurious way to reconnect outside and an amazing unique experience to share together. Perfect for anyone who likes to explore new spots and reconnect outside, wether your mom is the adventurous type or she prefers more comfort. We think it’s the best Mother’s Day gift there is, but we might be a little biased.. ;) Check out these glamping spots:

The Netherlands

Tipi tent near the river Vecht in Dalfsen, near Zwolle, in The Netherlands. This campspace has everything: a kitchen you can use, a porch where you can watch the stars while you cuddle up under a blanket and some lovely animals to pet. Big bonus is that it’s located in Salland, a nature area that’s ideal for biking and touring the countryside. You can visit many old estates and small castles in this area. For example, there’s castle Rechteren, but you can also visit castle Het Nijenhuis, which is part of the museum De Fundatie (a museum located in Zwolle). On the grounds of this estate you’ll find a lovely garden filled with sculptures, and inside the castle there’s another part of the museum with paintings that are part of the collection of De Fundatie as well. The bike route to and from Zwolle is amazing, you’ll cross the river and bike by the dykes. A sustainable way of travel, that will make your getaway even more memorable. Zwolle is ideal for some shopping if that’s more your thing, and this beautiful provincial city is filled with terraces to relax and enjoy a glass of wine or two. More the beer drinking type? Then Het Refter is a must-visit. Located at the heart of one of Zwolle’s most popular cosy squares, this place serves about 23 draft beers and countless more bottled beers. The building used to be part of a monastery, and the interior is spot on. The word Refter is a Dutch word for ‘eating hall’, that was used in monasteries in the olden days. The diner menu is lovely as well, so we’d strongly recommend paying them a visit next time you’re in Zwolle. Doesn’t this trip sound like the most perfect Mother’s Day gift?

France

Visit this natural glampsite on Katrien’s ecological project in Île de Bambecque, France, located in French Flanders near the Belgium border. This garden is the perfect place to connect with each other, and with nature. In season, you can purchase self-harvest packages of locally grown vegetables, fruits and herbs. For a history lover, it might be a cool option to visit Dunkirk from here, which is about half an hour drive away. There’s a museum here about operation dynamo. Do check their opening times, since they’re a bit limited. Since Dunkirk is located right by the North Sea, you can also visit the beach for some strolling along the coast. Another option is to drive a little further to Calais to do some fine dining at a place like Histoire Ancienne. Visit the town hall of Calais, where you can climb the main tower for a stunning view. The rural area surrounding Katrien’s campspace is also ideal for long walks out in nature, biking trips and other outdoor activities.

Germany

This cool glamping spot in Eutin, Germany is definitely one to check out. You’ll fall in love with this place as soon as you’ve seen the photos.. Near the lake you’ll find several options for glamping: a bell tent or tiny house in an old barrel, you take your pick! You can plan a day activity with your mom, like renting SUP boards to peddle around the lake or going sailing in the area. Do note that this campspace is a bit bigger than most of the others, as it is part of a larger campsite. This will mean you might meet some other lovely people to bond with during your stay.

Belgium

This tiny house located in Overijse, Belgium is the perfect Mother’s Day getaway! You’ll be surrounded by some friendly sheep during your stay and it’s just a stone’s throw away from the Sonian forest. Check out Komoot for the best walks and hikes around Forêt de Soignes. You can combine reconnecting outside with a visit to European’s political capitol Brussels. The city is very close by, so you won’t have to commute far to visit. You can soak in the international vibes in this vibrant city, go shopping, go out to diner and visit all the beautiful sights that this city has to offer. Since Brussels is a big city, you should check out the opportunities to do a workshop together, like a pottery workshop or cooking workshop! This will add to the unique experience you’ll share together. The best thing: knowing that you’ll wake up with the sounds of birds the next morning, fully recharged and reconnected with each other and nature.
