About this campspace

In the middle of a beautiful nature reserve, at the foot of the river Nete, lies De Oevervloed, a place to completely unwind. Inspired by permaculture principles, we are designing this former weekend residence. We have a large colorful vegetable garden from which we can prepare a delicious meal in the evening for those who want. Breakfast is also possible with eggs from our chickens and sourdough bread from local bakers. Besides a lot of chickens, a few rabbits live here, our enthusiastic dog Storm and in the meadow next to us is mule Jack. We use groundwater that we filter for drinking and there is a simple compost toilet. In the summer when it is not too wet, you can set up your tent in the elf forest. We also have a place for a modest camper van. (Last year it was right at the entrance to the walking path, but now there is also the option to place it inside the gate, so that you can experience a little more privacy)
The canal is a 5-minute walk away and the center of both Mol and Balen are not far away.
In addition to the Griesbroek nature reserve in which we are located, this region also has a lot of other nature reserves and hiking / exploration opportunities. We also border close to Limburg with its many beautiful cycling routes and Bosland.
We have a lot of walking maps of the area that you can borrow.

My name is Merel and I live with my boyfriend Steven in a chalet in the woods. We like to connect with people by letting them enjoy and be inspired by this beautiful place, to which we give our energy and dedication day in, day out. We are also both musicians and we regularly give sound journeys and relaxation concerts.

Take a break for a few days in the second half of September. Quiet days in the Elfenbos of campspace abundance. First, cross-forest paths all the way into the forest. Enjoyed the peace and quiet.

How was the contact with the host?
Merel is friendly. Provides extensive information you need. She has a beautiful flower garden. Even at the end of summer.

Tips for new guests?
Just do it if you want to get away from it all. Literally back to basics.

Very nice place in the middle of nature, back to basics but still a pleasant tipi to sleep in. Easily accessible by public transport and they are located in a nature reserve that you can easily explore. Warm, respectful and welcoming place to relax in nature. Thanks for this!

How was the contact with the host?
Very smooth communication before and during the stay, Merel and Steven received me very hospitably.

Tips for new guests?
There is no provision for cooking for the time being (but they didn't mind if I heated up some food on their stove), so it's best to provide that yourself.

Very warm and nice first 'camp' experience! A little paradise in the middle of the forest. Recommended for anyone who likes to spend some time in nature, surrounded by fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers, away from the hustle and bustle of the city to relax :)

Wonderful place where I could spend hours just listening to the birds and looking at the trees. An experience in off-grid living.
Steven and Merel have a beautiful garden from which they prepared me a delicious meal in the evening, just like breakfast with freshly baked sourdough bread the next morning.
The walking path runs next to the domain so that you can start walking immediately. The Griesbroek nature reserve is very nice to walk through, I even spotted a couple of storks.

How was the contact with the host?
Very warm, welcoming and helpful. Nice talk and a tour of the garden.

Tips for new guests?
Something against the mosquitoes is a must :)

A very beautiful place with loving people. Really off grid and really enjoyed that. Please note that even in the summer it is really cold groundwater from the shower. You can smell the iron in the water too. But when it's hot it's very refreshing. A beautiful vegetable garden and a wonderfully cool forest in front of your tent. Really a place where you can completely relax on the spot and leave the outside world behind for a while.

How was the contact with the host?
Very sweet host and lady, helpful and very open. And a sweet watchful dog. Contact very relaxed and clear.

Tips for new guests?
Bring something against the mosquitoes that can sting quite a bit.

How was the contact with the host?
We were warmly welcomed and guided. Merel (and her husband) are happy to help you and give passionate explanations about their garden.

With Merel and Steven it hasn't felt like we've been hosted it felt like family. They've been so open and kind so we felt very comfortable at their place. It was really nice to get to know their lifestyle and we got great inspirations for ourselves. The place was really great because the nature brought quietness and that was exactly what we needed to calm down from city trouble. On our last night we made a great campfire and played lots of instruments and the whole setting was just wonderful. There are not enough words to describe from the feeling we've got of the time there, we just felt in love with this place and the hosts so we can't stop thinking about it even after our trip. Just thinking of coming back their! We are so thankful for everything, because we are only 18 years old and it had been an experience for life!:)

How was the contact with the host?
Merel and Steven are two so interesting persons and getting to know them was a bless😍😊
Thank you two we wish you the best!!!

Tips for new guests?
You can walk through their garden and see the vegetables and flowers grow or walk through the woods and be in an idyllic nature with very nice camping tracks. Or ask them for a breakfast or dinner it is really really delicious!

As fervent nature lovers, constant seekers of peace and refugees from heat waves, we wanted to camp in a place that could serve as a base to discover beautiful natural gems and cast sufficient shade and coolness on our tent and surroundings.
De Oeverfluent more than lived up to these expectations.

Our camping spot was located next to a hiking trail that is part of the Grote Netewoud, in the middle of nature that is still being developed, and under an alder grove where we could fully enjoy the sounds of hedgehogs, owls and so much more at dusk.

The openness and hospitality of Merel and Steven were really the icing on the cake for us.
The (vegan on request) meal with vegetables from our own garden, permaculture principles, creativity and simplicity were a great inspiration for us. The spontaneous conversations are very pleasant.

Overall highly recommended and a place where we would be happy to return, in short.

Tell us about your experience
Merel and Steven have created a beautiful, almost self-sufficient oasis of plants and animals that they treat with great respect. Driving the last bit over the forest path with signs feels like going on a small adventure. A truly unique, idyllic place where Storm the dog watches over the chickens, you hear the hawk on arrival and regularly spot the kingfisher. A place where we and our dogs felt very welcome. Place for a tent in the woods and for our van on the edge of the plot. On a wetter day we could use the cozy home-built conservatory, but everywhere there are nice places for a campfire. Merel and Steven are disarming and helpful (with walking maps, a hot water bottle, playing on special instruments) and have interesting texts. They cooked for us and gave us a tour of their fantastic vegetable garden which blends in with the environment. Back to basics, swimming in the canal to freshen up, compost toilet, all good! Well, it's a sprinkling of superlatives. And that's not even talking about the immediate surroundings and the Kempen. It's a cliché, but WE WOULD LIKE TO COME BACK HERE. Thank you!

How was the contact with the host?
Smooth, balanced

It was a very rich experience for us to receive Wieke, Vincent, Aisha, Tijmen and the dogs here for 4 days and nights. Nice to feel that they were so connected to the place and the environment. Much respect and amazement for nature and all living things. Grateful for the nice conversations and the peace you carried with you. You have reflected back to us the magic and beauty of this place so beautifully. We very much hope to meet you again and we wish you many more green and quiet places with the van!!
