Looking for Dutch campsites near the German border? These campsites are located close to the German border, making them ideal for trips to Germany. We will help you even further by mentioning a few nice cities in this border region that are worth a visit.

The German border

The Netherlands borders Belgium in the south, of course, but in the east there are also beautiful areas by the border with Germany. With cities like Oldenburg in the north and Aachen in the south, there are also plenty of nice cities and small villages to explore near the border. Below, we will highlight a few small German towns that are definitely worth a visit.

Meppen

Meppen is a small town just across the German border. You can explore the centre, where you will find a beautiful historical town hall. You can also visit the Höltingmühle. This old mill is situated in a beautiful spot, between the greenery. Various cycling routes lead you past the mill and through the nature area around the town. One of the most famous cycling routes is called the Pünten-tour. Meppen is approximately half an hour's drive from Emmen in the Netherlands, which is why many people combine the two cities for a day of cycling. Half an hour from Meppen you will find the campspace of Corinne, where you can stay overnight in atmospheric vargo wagons.

Lingen

Around Lingen you can cycle the Orange cycle path. Lingen is often the starting point or end point. This is a route of 230 kilometres through the Netherlands and Germany. The name is connected to the Dutch royal family, because when cycling this route, you will come across various country estates and palace 'Het Loo' as well. Lingen has a nice small centre and the market is also worth a visit. You will also find the Kunsthalle Lingen here, where you can admire exhibitions of modern art. At about 45 minutes drive from Lingen you can camp at Caroline's campspace in Stieltjeskanaal.

Nordhorn

Another beautiful town in the same region: Nordhorn. At the edge of Nordhorn you will find the monastery 'Frenswegen'. A beautiful historic monastery that was founded in 1394. If you wish, you can also explore Nordhorn by water. You can take a boat trip on the river Vecht! Check out Bianca's campspace, which is located in Nordhorn, but just across the border in the Netherlands.
