About this campspace

A night in Denmark's oldest limestone mine is a wild and fantastic experience, where you experience nature from a completely different side.

You enter a long narrow mine corridor, where after about 30-40 meters you arrive at 'Jens Langkniv's cave', your place for the night (all the corridors are illuminated so you can easily find your way back and forth). There is only room for 2 people, so you have the whole place to yourself. Yes, in fact, you have the whole lime pit to yourself.

An overnight stay in the lime pit is a unique experience and you decide whether you go for a romantic atmosphere with lots of candles and light chains or go for a 100% raw, nature overnight stay with all the lights off.

[b] YOUR BED [/ b]
We would love to make the bed for you, but due to the high humidity, it is best to make the bed first when you go to bed (then it is warmer!).

The bed consists of 2 sun loungers with accompanying mattresses and 2 large, thick duvets, pillows. Bed linen can be purchased for DKK 30 for two sets. You are welcome to bring an extra blanket or sleeping bag if you are a little cold.

If you book for more than 2 people, you must bring your own sleeping pad and sleeping bag.

Remember that you are staying overnight in an old pit, which is totally protected, so the spirit of the place must be respected. The bats are also protected and must not be touched.

[b] STEAR LIGHT AND LIGHT CHAINS [/ b]
If you are going for the romantic experience, be sure to bring your own candles and light chains (these are NOT on arrival).

[b] TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY [/ b]
You are in a mine, so that means the humidity is high with a constant temperature all year round. The temperature is 9 degrees with a humidity of 97%. The air is nice to sleep in, but remember to bring warm clothes if you are cold.

[b] FACILITIES AND RESIDENCE RULES [/ b]
Toilet and faucet with cold water are located in the forest hut by the mine, where there is a nice campfire with barbecue which can be used. Firewood can either be bought or brought. The site's facilities are shared with any. (overnight) guests in the lime pit.

There is also access to electricity so you can charge your phone or similar.

Stay and use of open fire is at your own risk, both above and below ground. Smoking is prohibited in the pit. You are welcome to light candles and use trangia in the pit.

You share the lime pit with the bat. There is a high probability that you will spot a bat or two (or many more), as the lime pit is a big hit among bats. However, it depends on the season. From October to August, the bats go into dens in the cave, while from August to October they leave the pit to go hunting.

[b] AREA [/ b]
The pit is located in the middle of the beautiful Dybdal forest where the kilometer-long low labyrinthine passages meander deep underground.

In the 16th century, the outlawed highway robber Jens Langkniv lived, after whom the cave is named. The area around the limestone mine is a protected forest, where you, among other things. can walk the "Lime Camino".

If you do not want to sleep down in the lime pit itself, you can instead choose an overnight stay in a shelter. The shelter is located in the middle of the beautiful Dybdal forest where the hiking trail "Kalkminoen" also passes right by.

Underground you have Daubjerg Kalkgrube, where the kilometer-long low labyrinthine passages meander deep underground.

You can visit the limestone mine during its opening hours.

It was an exciting stay with lots of experiences, history and fun. The energy is very special in the area. The pits were a cool experience but just a little too scary for us to sleep in as we were all alone... and some scaredy-goosey pants.

The 2 beds / Solar prams work perfectly and are more comfortable to sleep on than you might think.
It is easy to keep the heat under the good duvets, despite the only 8 degrees that are in the pit.

Super exciting experience!
Really nice outside facilities (toilets, fireplace, tables and benches). Situated in a beautiful forest with beautiful hiking trails. With a little extra warm clothes and blankets we did not freeze and we got a good night's sleep.
The dark hallways and the many bats may seem a little creepy, but our kids of 10 and 13 had a fabulous ride.
3 light chains are great to light up with. In addition, bring a flashlight per person for the walk in the pit.

It is a completely magical place for an overnight stay. We came 5 people, 2 adults and 3 children who had all been looking forward to sleeping with bats. We got a nice tour, there is good access to the toilet and there is a covered campfire with benches for cooking. Due to massive rain, we eventually had to run to the car and drive home and sleep. It is difficult to get the heat in a cold and damp lime pit 🙂 However, we have promised the children that we will come by again another day. We had a super nice overnight stay in the pit with cozy company of the bats. The campfire site is located in the most beautiful forest area with a rich bird life. There was nothing that came as a surprise as what is written in the description fits really well. We rounded off the visit by going on the Kalk Kamino to Stoholm and back again. Really nice trip in beautiful surroundings. Definitely worth a visit. The temperature and humidity in the cave are not unpleasant - and the bats were quite uninterested in our presence. We had a completely unique experience in Daubjerg lime pits. It was a wild experience and having the mines all to yourself. I was a little nervous about the bats flapping around too much, but they were sitting quietly around the ceiling and not in there where we slept. We slept surprisingly well on the sunbeds, despite the high humidity. We had an extra blanket with us, which Anita also recommends if you are a little cold, and it was absolutely perfect for us.
The campfire site is really nice, with sails over table bench sets if it is raining.
We were there at full moon, and could tell cozy and eerie stories by the fire.

Really cozy experience in beautiful surroundings. We were well received on arrival and shown around. We first went for a little walk of yellow route and then started bonfire up. Despite the cold weather, we were able to keep warm around the fire using blankets and well down clothes! When it got too cold outside we went down to the cave, lit a lot of candles and played board games. It is definitely recommended to have headlamps with you !!! We saw many bats on their way to the cave, a few flew around otherwise slept the rest. It was nice and warm when we went to bed, we both slept in ski underwear. Despite -17 ° outdoors, we felt nothing for the frost.
The next morning we made coffee and cocoa over trangia in the cave and ate breakfast. We ended the experience with a walk, this time blue route. Definitely a good experience that is worth all the money !!!! :)

Accommodation in the lime pit is a unique experience you will never forget. You get access to the entire lime pit on your own, and can spend the evening exploring the various passages in total silence. Exciting and slightly cross-border accommodation in the lime pit. One should not suffer from claustrophobia or be afraid of bats :)
It is important to have good light with (both light chains, block lights and preferably headlamps) to make it cozy where you need to sleep. We slept in woolen underwear and with a blanket over the handed out duvets, and that was fine. We had a car with us and it was an advantage to store some extra warm clothes as there were 1-2 g outside and 8-9 inside the cave and nowhere where things can be stored. It was just after the period of snow and frost, so there was a lot of mud around the campfire site. We can definitely recommend the nature around Daugbjerg, and we followed several of the marked routes and part of the Kalk Camino. Definitely fun to try, if nothing else to do something we have not tried before.

Consider visiting the place before booking. We were shocked at how scary it actually was, so you definitely have to be. We went home after an hour, and could not get our money back. In addition, a little incomprehensible treatment from the owner of the pit, as we were questioning and a little nervous about the stay, so it was a bad experience.
