NiekDe Barak is an alternative holiday home with a special story. With us you get rid of all luxury and you live to the rhythm of nature. Just like 100 years ago. Far away from the hustle and bustle and all modern comfort, you experience the essence: you relax and make time for each other.
Just after the First World War, Baron Gaston de Vinck built a concrete emergency barracks to house his family on their return from France. Exactly 100 years later, the barrack of Baron de Vinck has been restored and is ready to receive you in the atmosphere of the past.
Does it appeal to you to live as much as a hundred years ago? Then book holiday home 'Barak de Vinck' and will be catapulted back to 1919 with a maximum of 4 people. The barrack has everything you need: all household goods, oil lamps, firewood, a water pump and a very good old-fashioned stove to warm you and to cook. In short, everything is there to have a perfect stay in 1919.
Do you miss the modern comfort? Then you can always open the emergency door and return to the modern world with all the comforts. But… then you lose the challenge, you don't win a prize, you don't get a certificate and you pay an extra surcharge on your accommodation costs.
With us you get rid of all luxury and you live to the rhythm of nature, just like a hundred years ago. Away from all modern comfort, you experience the essence again, you relax and make time for each other. As a quiet place, De Barak is also an ideal location to focus as an author, manager, actor, enjoyer...
And that doesn't mean you're going to get bored. On the contrary!
IN THE BARAK
Board games and card games are waiting in the barracks for hours of fun with the whole family.
You can also browse through the books and the rich history of the “Baron van Bellewaerde” is never far away. In addition, you will find enough sugar, flour, water and eggs in the cupboards to bake the perfect cake with the oven from ESSE Ironheart.
In the meantime, let water boil on the wood-burning stove for the best cup of coffee, which you pour over the coffee beans that you have just ground by hand. Your day can't go wrong with such a nice slow coffee and the accompanying artisan cake!
Around the barracks there is a herb garden, a sneukel hedge, an orchard and a 1 hectare playing field, where children can romp, run and climb trees.
Here children can really be children again, and play until the sun goes down. Or would they rather help with mom or dad, collect firewood for the stove in the evening?
The hammocks and loungers with a view of the beautiful Bellewaerde valley will delight young and old. The dexter cows and suffolk sheep in the pasture complete the rural picture.
The surroundings of the barracks are the ultimate for every nature lover. From the barracks you can start for a pleasant walk to the crater forest on Bellewaerde Ridge, where 16 original craters from WWI are still well preserved, but where many birds find their new home a hundred years later.
But you can also go the other way, to the Gasthuisbossen, for a 7 km walk through the Zillebeek nature. You can discover the rich history of the Green Ypres Salient on the basis of a beautiful story book “The very last witnesses”. Or would you rather stop at the neighbors of Hooge Crater museum? You can visit this unique private museum for free if you stay in the barracks. You can also quench your hunger and thirst in the cozy museum café.
Bellewaerde amusement park and Bellewaerde Aqua swimming pool are a feast for young and old and are within walking distance of the barracks. Ask for your discount cards at Ilse and Niek.
Tourism Ypres and Tourism Westhoek also have a lot to offer for relaxing activities.
