The Pilgrims' Nest is an off grid travellers' haven, situated 35km SE of Carcassonne in a natural and mountainous surrounding in the heart of the green Corbières Mountains at an altitude of 712m between cedar and beech forests. The air is clean and pure and radiates peacefulness.
The place itself is fed by clear spring water. Electricity is provided by solar and wind power, and nature grows a wealth of herbs everywhere. This is the place to be if you like a quiet, pure and natural environment, far away from the noise of roads and towns.
The campsite is on several terraces just above the house, in the shade of some cedar and Douglas fir trees. There's a tap with natural spring water, a hot water tub (the water heated by a wood fire underneath the tub), an open fireplace on another terrace nearby, and a 'sunset terrace' with a beautiful view. There's also a big shelter with a fully equipped outdoor summer kitchen and a 3m long picnic table, but no electric fridge.
The bathroom is adjacent to the house, the shower is in a separate wooden cabin, the water heated by solar power (or by gas if there's not enough sunshine). Breakfast with home made bread is optional (6,-€). Mobile phone network connection may be limited to certain spots on the property. Note that the nearest shops are in Limoux, 22km down hill. There is no public transport.
Apart from a place to stay the "Pilgrims' Nest" is also a place of inner transformation, exchange and sharing, open to all pilgrims, travellers, wanderers, backpackers and soul seekers on the road, and to all who travel consciously their inner path of evolution. It also welcomes everyone who needs a few days or weeks of rest, reflection or energy recharging. The energy of the place is introspective and highly transformative. It leaves no one untouched.
Attractions in the area are the Cité of Carcassonne, one of the most preserved medieval fortified cities in Europe, Rennes-le-Château from the Da Vinci Code, the hot springs at Rennes-les-Bains, the numerous Cathar castle ruins, a beautiful lake for swimming at nearby Arques, the interesting villages of Lagrasse, Alet-les-Bains, and Saint Hilaire, the natural beauty of the Corbières Mountains and the Pyrenees, and the Mediterranean Sea not too far away.

I'm an eternal traveller from Flemish origin, a pilgrim and a nature lover, welcoming other travellers when I'm not on the road myself, here in my little paradise corner.

Super nice place, far from civilization. Interesting to be in a place that is completely "off-grid". It is a good example and proof that without fixed connections you absolutely do not have to compromise on comfort! Well done!

How was the contact with the host?
Eddy and Christel are friendly and humble people who like to share their special territory with travelers. Smooth contact and they are also well informed about what to see and do in the area.

Tips for new guests?
Absolutely worth it! Also for people with young children, pure adventure. The outdoor kitchen is also a nice place to exchange experiences with other travelers and possibly have a meal together.

What a little heaven on earth here in this interesting part of France. The place and the hosts are amazing, inspiring, sweet and interested/ing :)

True hospitality and exactly the attitude towards life that we ourselves have so we had a great click and Eddie and his girlfriend are an inspiration for us in their way of living. There is ample space to have privacy and at the same time a lot of opportunities to be social. It doesn't really matter if you come there to meditate and be on your own or to be social, have fun and enjoy nature, it's all there.

I even played (read abused) a violin for the first time in my life! My girlfriend and I have really really enjoyed our stay and if we have the opportunity we would love to come back!

How was the contact with the host?
Really good, what a great couple. The communication went really smoothly beforehand and we felt at home right away when we got there. We also got on very well with the other guest who was staying there! All in all, a very social event and we are sorry we didn't stay longer!

Tips for new guests?
Really read the instructions about getting there (instead of calling before you read the clear instructions :).

Bring a flashlight for the night.

Eddy and Christel gave us a warm welcome. The love and respect for nature and the guests was so beautiful! We were spoiled with a musical evening full of French, Irish and Flemish cabaret. The dormice, midwife toads and vultures joined in the fun. Thank you.

How was the contact with the host?
Very smooth contact.

Tips for new guests?
Enjoy it!

Pilgrims' Nest has clearly been built with great care by Eddy and Christel. There are several places to explore and enjoy. We saw different animals and stars, and socialized with other guests in the communal kitchen. The small scale is precisely the strength of this "mini-camping".

How was the contact with the host?
Coincidentally met Flemish people to stay with in France and that was fun! Booked last minute and Eddy was quick to respond with confirmation.

Tips for new guests?
Only good bikes and trained legs can handle it from this place without a car to explore. Everything is quite far :) You should take that into account.

It's our joy to take care of things down to those small details as it is very rewarding and uplifting to see how people like you enjoy so much their stay here, and leave with a good feeling and some inspiration when they continue their journey. We hope the good memories keep lingering on for a while in your daily life, nourishing your souls. You were great guests! Always welcome again! Or see you somewhere on the road... PS Have you thrown out that TV set already? ;-)
