Experience Hillside Camping with Hot Tub at the Pilgrims' Nest: A Tranquil Off-Grid Retreat in the Corbières Mountains

Discover the Pilgrims' Nest, an enchanting off-grid haven nestled 35km southeast of Carcassonne. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the green Corbières Mountains, surrounded by serene natural landscapes and towering cedar and beech forests at an elevation of 712m. Breathe in the crisp, pure air and relish the peacefulness that permeates this idyllic destination.

Our eco-friendly sanctuary draws its sustenance from crystal-clear spring water and harnesses solar and wind power to provide electricity. Nature thrives here, offering a bountiful array of herbs in every direction. If you yearn for a tranquil, unspoiled environment far from the clamor of urban life, the Pilgrims' Nest is your ultimate escape for hillside camping with a hot tub.

Our campsite rests on several terraces just above the main house, shaded by majestic cedar and Douglas fir trees. Explore the site's offerings, including a refreshing tap with natural spring water, a wood fire-heated hot water tub for a soothing soak, an inviting open fireplace on a nearby terrace, and a captivating 'sunset terrace' boasting panoramic vistas. You'll also find a spacious shelter complete with a fully equipped outdoor summer kitchen and a 3m long picnic table (please note that there is no electric fridge).

The bathroom facilities, including a separate wooden cabin for the solar-powered shower, are conveniently located adjacent to the house. Indulge in an optional breakfast, featuring delightful homemade bread for just 6,-€. Please be aware that mobile phone network connectivity may be limited to specific areas on the property. Kindly note that the nearest shops can be found in Limoux, a downhill journey of 22km, and there is no public transportation available.

Beyond providing a place to stay, the Pilgrims' Nest fosters inner transformation, meaningful exchange, and sharing. It warmly welcomes pilgrims, travelers, wanderers, backpackers, and soul seekers traversing their personal paths of evolution. Whether you seek a rejuvenating respite, contemplative reflection, or an energy recharge, our sanctuary offers the introspective and profoundly transformative energy that touches the hearts of all who visit.

While staying with us, explore the captivating attractions in the surrounding area. Marvel at the remarkable Cité of Carcassonne, one of Europe's best-preserved medieval fortified cities, or unravel the mysteries of Rennes-le-Château, famously intertwined with the Da Vinci Code. Delight in the therapeutic hot springs of Rennes-les-Bains, and explore the evocative ruins of Cathar castles that dot the landscape. Dive into the refreshing waters of the nearby Arques lake, wander through the charming villages of Lagrasse, Alet-les-Bains, and Saint Hilaire, and immerse yourself in the natural splendor of the Corbières Mountains and the nearby Pyrenees. And let's not forget the allure of the Mediterranean Sea, just a short distance away.

I'm an eternal traveller from Flemish origin, a pilgrim and a nature lover, welcoming other travellers when I'm not on the road myself, here in my little paradise corner.

Tips

  • Tiny little evening market in the village on Thursday evenings

Super nice place, far from civilization. Interesting to be in a place that is completely "off-grid". It is a good example and proof that without fixed connections you absolutely do not have to compromise on comfort! Well done!

How was the contact with the host?
Eddy and Christel are friendly and humble people who like to share their special territory with travelers. Smooth contact and they are also well informed about what to see and do in the area.

Tips for new guests?
Absolutely worth it! Also for people with young children, pure adventure. The outdoor kitchen is also a nice place to exchange experiences with other travelers and possibly have a meal together.

What a little heaven on earth here in this interesting part of France. The place and the hosts are amazing, inspiring, sweet and interested/ing :)

True hospitality and exactly the attitude towards life that we ourselves have so we had a great click and Eddie and his girlfriend are an inspiration for us in their way of living. There is ample space to have privacy and at the same time a lot of opportunities to be social. It doesn't really matter if you come there to meditate and be on your own or to be social, have fun and enjoy nature, it's all there.

I even played (read abused) a violin for the first time in my life! My girlfriend and I have really really enjoyed our stay and if we have the opportunity we would love to come back!

How was the contact with the host?
Really good, what a great couple. The communication went really smoothly beforehand and we felt at home right away when we got there. We also got on very well with the other guest who was staying there! All in all, a very social event and we are sorry we didn't stay longer!

Tips for new guests?
Really read the instructions about getting there (instead of calling before you read the clear instructions :).

Bring a flashlight for the night.

Eddy and Christel gave us a warm welcome. The love and respect for nature and the guests was so beautiful! We were spoiled with a musical evening full of French, Irish and Flemish cabaret. The dormice, midwife toads and vultures joined in the fun. Thank you.

How was the contact with the host?
Very smooth contact.

Tips for new guests?
Enjoy it!

Tell us about your experience
Pilgrims' Nest has clearly been built with great care by Eddy and Christel. There are several places to explore and enjoy. We saw different animals and stars, and socialized with other guests in the communal kitchen. The small scale is precisely the strength of this "mini-camping".

How was the contact with the host?
Coincidentally met Flemish people to stay with in France and that was fun! Booked last minute and Eddy was quick to respond with confirmation.

Tips for new guests?
Only good bikes and trained legs can handle it from this place without a car to explore. Everything is quite far :) You should take that into account.

What a beautiful place! Everything is taken care of down to the last detail with nature.

How was the contact with the host?
Both super friendly people, with a warm heart for the pilgrims they receive.

Tips for new guests?
Enjoy the sunset terrace! Really recommended. +there are also curious squirrels. :)

It's our joy to take care of things down to those small details as it is very rewarding and uplifting to see how people like you enjoy so much their stay here, and leave with a good feeling and some inspiration when they continue their journey. We hope the good memories keep lingering on for a while in your daily life, nourishing your souls. You were great guests! Always welcome again! Or see you somewhere on the road... PS Have you thrown out that TV set already? ;-)
