Peaceful hilltop hideaway in the heart of the Morvan, Burgundy

About this location

Nestled in a small hollow on top of a hill, our campsite is a world away from the rush. You won't hear any traffic here. Just birdsong, the occasional distant chainsaw, a dog barking somewhere in the village. The honest sounds of rural France. From your pitch you look out over our garden with old fruit trees and the rolling Burgundy countryside beyond.

We have space for a camper, caravan, or tent on our grounds. You'll have access to a compost toilet and an outdoor shower with hot water. There's a fire pit where you can end the day watching the stars. And what stars: the Morvan is one of only seven places in France with an official Dark Sky designation, so on a clear night the Milky Way is right above you.

We're slowly developing the land into a permaculture food forest, so you might spot freshly planted fruit trees and garden experiments alongside the old orchard. It's a place that's growing, in the most literal sense.

Step off the property and you're immediately in the forest. This is a dream spot for hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers, and horse riders, with endless trails starting right from the doorstep. Two beautiful lakes are nearby: Lac de Pannecière and Lac des Settons, perfect for swimming, kayaking, or a lazy afternoon on the shore.

The historic town of Autun is just 20 minutes away. Originally the capital of the Aedui, a Gaulish tribe allied with Rome, it still has impressive Roman gates, a theatre, and a stunning Romanesque cathedral. Great for a morning stroll or a market visit. For wine lovers, the beautiful town of Beaune and its famous vineyards are well worth a day trip. And if you're craving a bigger city, Dijon is about an hour's drive.

We live on the property ourselves, so we're always around if you need tips, directions, or just a good conversation. Longer stays, from a week to a month, are very welcome.

Come slow down in the Morvan. You'll leave rested.

Perfect for...

Nature lovers, hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers, and anyone who needs to properly disconnect. Couples looking for a quiet escape and families with kids who are happy playing outside.

We have three spacious, level pitches for campers or caravans, located right along a quiet country lane. We're the last house in the village, so there's barely any traffic. The pitches are generously sized and easy to access straight from the road. There are some trees around providing a bit of shade, but in the afternoon you'll be in full sun, so bring an awning if you like to sit in the shade. The views from here are lovely: you look out over the valley and the surrounding hills.

Hi, I'm Stef. I'm a Dutch freelance web developer who traded the flat lands of the Netherlands for a hilltop in Burgundy. I live here with my three kids in a renovated farmhouse in a tiny village in the Morvan.

When I'm not behind my screen, I'm usually trail running through the forests around the house, tending the garden, baking sourdough, or working on turning the land into a permaculture food forest. I'm also a rock climber, a chess player, and I ferment pretty much anything I can get my hands on.

I love hosting people and sharing this place. The Morvan is one of those corners of France that most people don't know about, and I think that's part of its charm. If you want recommendations for trails, lakes, or the best market in Autun, just ask.
