About this campspace

Beautiful wide quiet place to camp in a natural horse pasture (approximately 1 hectare) with many different types of grasses and flowers surrounded by a food forest edge in development. Hear the many bees buzzing and birds chirping while our three ponies scurry through the meadow. At the back of the meadow we have a large willow hut that provides shade and also a seat where you can catch the last evening sun. The sunsets are often beautiful here and with a bit of luck you can spot a deer, fox or owl in the meadow :-)

We have our own vegetable garden with vegetables in abundance in season and our food forest edge will yield more and more to snack on. We are also happy to bake luxury croissants for you in the morning.

The beach is within walking distance (850m) through the dunes of natural monuments where large cattle graze, as is the Quackjeswater nature reserve, where you can spot spoonbills and kingfishers.
In the street is the romantic restaurant "the wooden horses" with French-Dutch cuisine and via the beach you can walk to various beach bars in 20 minutes. The sea is child-friendly and shallow. Rockanje is a real holiday village with all amenities and several beach bars.

Your host, Tjibbe & Karin

4.71 (14 reviews)

Tjibbe (Architect at Droomhuisfabriek) and
Karin (Strategist) has been living in a beautiful place just behind the dunes in Rockanje since 2019 with two sweet daughters. We both love the outdoors very much. Hence our choice to move from Rotterdam to a former farm with a large garden (1.3 ha).

We registered on Campspace, because we would like to have a little more people around us while working from home in corona time.

Tips

  • Pizza at beach bar Egbert aan Zee

  • Bring boots for the tall grass in the meadow

Had wonderful days with Tjibbe, Karin, the girls and of course the horses. We were shown the way by Tjibbe and were allowed to choose a place for the tent ourselves. The meadow has many beautiful spots and is surrounded by the food forest. The cottage with shower and toilet is fully equipped and it feels like you are outside, yet you have enough privacy.

We enjoyed a campfire under the stars every night. The last evening we did this together with Tjibbe and Karin, they are very relaxed and have many tips about the area.

We walked to the beach in less than fifteen minutes, a beautiful walk through the dune area.

All in all a very nice place to completely relax and enjoy nature and space (not to mention the friendly horses). And don't forget the delicious fresh croissants, highly recommended!

How was the contact with the host?
Pleasant contact, quick responses via whatsapp. We could ask for anything.

Tips for new guests?
Eat an ice cream at the Ijsboerin, a farm where fresh ice cream is made. This is within walking/cycling distance.

Nice and quiet spot, there are no other campers and we were at the back of the field. Great shower with a view of the field and the horses.

How was the contact with the host?
Tjibbe and Karin were very accessible for a chat.

Tips for new guests?
Of course a visit to the beach cannot be missed, less than 1 km walk! The water is fairly shallow, but that didn't spoil the fun.

Tjibbe and Karin are friendly hosts of a beautiful place!
For us this was the ideal place to test whether we can camp with our two small kids and newborn baby.
This because we had all the peace and privacy, as well as beautiful nature and the beach around the corner.
We even got some help setting up the trailer tent.

This place is highly recommended if you are looking for rare tranquility in an otherwise busy region!

How was the contact with the host?
Super

Tips for new guests?
Do not take too many things with you if you are going to take the walk to the beach with small children with 30 degrees 😂

We enjoyed camping in the large meadow of Karin and Tjibbe. It is wonderful to be the "only" guests. The outdoor shower/WC is wonderful. The croissants tasted delicious; the proximity of the horses was nice; make the fire too! In short: it was an ideal place!

How was the contact with the host?
Karin and Tjibbe are very cordial; the contact was very smooth and pleasant.
We received clear information on site and interesting tips about the area and the restaurants. Awesome!

Tips for new guests?
Do not hesitate; a lovely place!

What a lovely place! Beautiful view over the pasture with three sweet, nice, funny horses in it. Karin and Tjibbe are very hospitable and not difficult at all. And in the morning we had incredibly tasty, freshly baked croissants. The beach is only a few hundred meters away. All in all a great place where we will definitely come back.

How was the contact with the host?
Contact with the host was fine. Both on whatsapp and on Campspace itself there was a friendly response to questions and messages and Karin and Tjibbe also turned out to be nice IRL. Their two daughters are also sweethearts.

We really enjoyed our private spot between the horses (1 horse and 2 ponies). The facilities are, as indicated, limited, but the hospitality and helpfulness more than made up for this. Horses by the tent during the day, deer and a fox in the evening. And very close to the dunes and the beach. In short, a fantastic place.

How was the contact with the host?
Tjibbe and Karin are hospitable and helpful. And have good tips about the area.

Tips for new guests?
Have a nice lunch at the Brielse Aap.

If you like peace and nature, just like us, this campspace is a must. The camping spot is located 10 minutes away from a beautiful dune and beach area where you can walk beautifully and spot animals. During our stay we saw several deer in the dune area. In addition, on a good day/night you can see a sea spark in the surf. Unfortunately we did not find the sea spark, but we did see a lot of luminous jellyfish, this was very special.
We were allowed to pitch our tent in the horse pasture. On the advice of the host we had put the tent in the back of the field because the sun was the last to set here. The three horses in the meadow are calm, but can we be curious about the rustling of food packages. The campspace met all basic facilities for us, an outside toilet, clean drinking water, a fire barrel and a nice seat at the back of the field.
This campspace is a great base for a relaxing weekend enjoying the beautiful Dutch dune landscape.

How was the contact with the host?
Karin and Tjibbe have been hospitable and helpful from the first contact. They like to tell you about their beautiful piece of land and the walking routes around the campspace. The contact was smooth and fast.

Tips for new guests?
- Walk to the beach in the evening to watch a beautiful sunset
- The short walking route around the Quackjeswater is definitely recommended

Super nice place to camp. We stood with our tunnel tent in the corral with newly planted shrubs and trees, where the horses cannot come. They are very curious and always came to see what we were doing. You can enjoy walking and eating in the area. We were really lucky with the weather.

How was the contact with the host?
Tjibbe came out right away when we arrived. Apping in advance went smoothly and we immediately received the code for the gate. Very friendly contact and we could stand where we wanted.

Tips for new guests?
Experience outdoor showering in the somewhat primitive shower and toilet. Nice if the weather is nice.
Bring sturdy waterproof shoes if it is going to rain.
