I like nature and wild camping. Despite the fact that you are at the bottom of the dike with a road on it, you imagine yourself in the wild. Surrounded by coots, birds and sheep that also enjoy the open piece of nature with a beautiful ditch along it.
There are many places of interest in the area, including Fort Everdingen and Fort Asperen, the leaning tower of the Betuwe, many bunkers and there are clog paths along the edge of Leerdam and if you want to, you can easily reach large cities.

How was the contact with the host?
The contact was pleasant and very hospitable.
Maria gives a lot of information about the area and what to do.

Tips for new guests?
Less suitable for large family tunnel tents because you camp between fruit trees and it could also disturb nature. Ideal for a trekking tent where you want to enjoy nature to the fullest.

A beautiful place with a wonderful view. Cozy occasionally some cows on the other side of the ditch and scratching coots and ducks, completely in nature and yet close to Leerdam for shopping. Good and clean sanitary facilities.

How was the contact with the host?
Excellent, always easily accessible.

Tips for new guests?
That Rhenoyse clog path indeed, and Bassa's wheel definitely go and have a look (bring swimming gear).

View of the cows, baby coots that scurry past your tent, the peace and quiet and nature, a drink on the terrace of the tea garden, the enormous hospitality of Maria! We felt very much at home, welcome and equipped! We enjoyed the walking, the nature and our place along the water, the friendly atmosphere and the sincerity of how Maria runs this with a clear love for nature and her guests! Thank you Maria, we will definitely be back!

A wonderful stay with beautiful lush  green views and water. The communal facilities are also well kept, modern and comfortable. We had plenty of space for our sibley tent and with only three other campers on the site we could enjoy this small camping and it’s tranquility.

As mentioned before, you do have the dijk behind you, where cars and motorbikes zoom past, but it was liveable.

How was the contact with the host?
Excellent both during the booking and during our stay.

We wanted to go winter camping for once, and we were very happy with this beautiful spot. The temperature was around freezing so we were very happy with the warm luxury toilet block and kettle. We could sit under the canopy and make a fire in the evening. The roof was very nicely decorated with lights. We stood with the tent on the water and when we woke up in the morning everything was white, that was a very beautiful sight!

How was the contact with the host?

I wanted to go winter camping once, I had never done that before. The weekend I wanted to go it was nice weather, so I booked a spot here. It was around freezing point, so I was a bit cold, but the overall experience was really great! And that was largely due to where I was staying. Really a very nice and quiet area on the dike with lots of birds around. The hosts were very friendly and everything went well. I was very happy with the warm toilet block :) There was also a place where a fire could be made in the evening. And a covered area where you can sit comfortably.
All in all a great experience! I would definitely like to come back here again, but maybe in the summer :)

How was the contact with the host?
The contact with the hosts was very good, everything was clearly explained when I arrived and they were very friendly during my stay.

Lotte and I stayed one night with Maria in the camper. It felt like a mini vacation. We have cycled and walked in the area and were even able to take a dip in the water nearby. Maria and her husband could tell you all about their yard and the environment. We were allowed to use the outside (and inside) kitchen and could light a fire in the outdoor stove. There is also a luxurious (wonderfully warm) bathroom! I would recommend everyone to go on a holiday or mini adventure with Maria!

How was the contact with the host?

I was standing by the water with my tent. What a beautiful and quiet place with a panoramic view. I enjoyed all the waterfowl and birds in the fruit trees.
A stork even landed nearby.
Everything is well and neatly maintained. Very very clean sanitary facilities. Outside are all kinds of nice seats.
It was nice that I could pick herbs from the herb garden. I also liked that there was a crate with some fruit and/vegetables from their garden, from which you could take some. Cozy and cleanly furnished communal areas with an eye for detail.

How was the contact with the host?
Very friendly welcome by Maria. She really takes the time for you. Maria and Willy are both very helpful. What lovely people! Thanks again for the nice contact and stay!!!

The bathroom is really nice and practical [lots of brackets], the bathroom is also kept very clean. The covered outdoor area is nice for when it's rainy.
A downside is that there is no hot water at the outdoor washing up areas, but the kitchen is right next to it and you can tap hot water there.

We had a very nice, quiet and warm stay at the campsite with Maria. The idyllic spot on the water is even more beautiful in real life! It is very quiet, you only hear the sheep now and then. We were positively surprised by the sanitary facilities; it was very nice and clean and the shower is just like home (maybe even better..!). We were also very charmed by the seating area, it seemed as if we were in France, between the fresh herbs (which you could pick) and possibly the possibility to light your own fire.

I would really like to share our experience we had at the nature campsite in Leerdam, near Maria.

What a special beautiful experience we have had at this beautiful place at the bottom of the dike of Leerdam. We were here at the end of April, when the fruit trees on the campsite were also in beautiful bloom.

Maria, the host, is a caring warm woman who knows a lot about nature, nutrition and gardening in the vegetable garden.
She likes to share her Passion to cook and care for others in combination with sharing this beautiful place where she lives with her husband.
We had nice conversations with her and her husband, who knows a lot about the different fruit trees, birds etc in the area.

The small-scale campsite offers a lot of peace and quiet, but also comfort because we can use extras such as a fire pit (we can buy wood for a small fee), the terrace with cozy seats, etc. The new sanitary area is neat and is kept clean.

The view is beautiful and wide. The places to camp or the camper place are spacious and offer enough privacy.

If you like walking and/or cycling, you can make beautiful trips from here along the Lek and Linge. The town of Leerdam is easy to cycle to.

We treated ourselves to a breakfast provided by Maria, which consisted of all kinds of fresh organic, vegetarian ingredients and local products. Really recommended.

The location offers a lot of potential for overnight stays and rental of the rooms with the options for complete care.

We will definitely come back to this place when the apples and pears hang on the trees or can be picked.

Tell us about your experience
The weekend before King's Day (cold nights, northern wind, but lots of sun) we camped at Maria, near Leerdam.
What a lovely place Maria and her husband Willy have created! Nice camping spots under the fruit trees, at the bottom of the Diefdijk, with sheep as neighbors behind and a view of the nature of the South Holland Landscape. A beautiful place for a small tent.
The bathroom, as you may call it, is attractively furnished with many characteristic elements and, above all, good and clean sanitary facilities and wonderfully heated. A beautiful outdoor area, partly covered, partly open terrace, where you can sit sheltered and in the sun with a view of the outside. Maria and Willy are very friendly and give you a warm and heartfelt welcome.
The camping spots, the Pipohuisje and the camper place (and another meeting room) are brand new, built in and around their old barn with many authentic elements.
From this place you can make beautiful trips by bike or on foot along the Linge and to Leerdem and the surrounding area. Very nice!
Also a nice place for a family or friends reunion with people who love the outdoors and camping. We will do that too!
Highly recommended for nature and outdoor enthusiasts!
