We are Lies and Karl. We have 5 children and numerous animals on this farmhouse. Chickens, rabbits, horses, pot-bellied pigs, dogs, dozens of swallows, but also pheasants and other game. We find ourselves reflected here in what the surrounding nature has to offer. We live on our island full of trees, surrounded by a beautiful nature reserve with woodland and few fields. And a short distance from the sea. At the same time, we live close to the cities of Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp, Terneuzen, Vlissingen, Middelburg, and so many more. Cyclists and walkers, just like us, can indulge themselves here along the beautiful mapped-out routes. As a family, we are deeply committed to the environment. Our conscious ecological lifestyle is intended to have as little negative impact on nature as possible. And we want like-minded people to enjoy it with us. The trees and shrubs are therefore allowed to grow freely here, the grass is well managed but not militarily trimmed, and the term "weed" exists only in human minds. This way, butterflies, bees, and insects have a fair chance here. And so, the frogs and the salamanders and so much more. Ideal for an insect safari. Intervention only occurs if they are truly in the way. Following the Scandinavian model as we understand it, and because nature intended it that way. In this way, we are tourists in our own garden every season. We live with the seasons, guided by what nature imposes on us at that time. That feels right to our experience. So join in enjoying the beauty of the surroundings and let the greenery adapt you, rather than trying to do the opposite.
