About this location

"Varm - the vegan farm" is an organic vegan farm in a beautiful location in southern Styria (ww.varm.at) and is ideally situated for excursions of all kinds between the Koralpen massif in the west and the rugged, vine-covered hills of the "Styrian Tuscany" in the east. Next to our Kellerstöckl vacation home, we offer a quiet pitch on a meadow orchard with a picturesque view from east to west of ponds and gently rolling meadows surrounded by forest. To the north is the neighboring farm and a local road with little traffic (including access to the farms and the pitch). No infrastructure in the sense of permanent connections available! If necessary, however, electricity and / or water (drinking water quality) can be provided temporarily to charge / refuel the storage tanks.

Varm – the vegan farm – is a vegan sanctuary for both people and animals. Since 2016, we have transformed an old, neglected farmstead in an idyllic location in southwestern Styria into a small paradise, and we want to share it with people who, like us, appreciate the unique power, tranquility, and magic of this place, the experience of nature, and above all, the peaceful, equal coexistence of all living beings. Therefore, at our vegan sanctuary, we serve our guests exclusively vegan delicacies (almost all organic) from our own farm or our own kitchen. We value aesthetics and, like our main house, have designed and furnished the guesthouse in a harmonious mix of country style, shabby chic, and industrial style, with a few touches of traditional, rustic charm. Committed to sustainability in all areas of life, as big fans of re-use and upcycling, we have relied almost exclusively on existing, found, used or even discarded items for both restoration work and the production of furnishings and decorations, preparing or processing the items with great dedication and are equally proud and grateful that we were able to create almost everything with our own hands. We live on the Varm: Ulli & Michael, our dogs Puma, Nelly and Ella, as well as our Cameroon sheep Quentin, Thelma, Louise and Pamina, cuddly cat Lotte and her admirer, tomcat Fido, and then also: a few free-roaming or stray cats, including permanent guest Minze, hedgehogs, martens, an unknown number of house mice, voles, moles, toads and frogs, a pair of pigeons, a pair of magpies, a colony of sparrows, tits, robins, redstarts, wagtails, blackbirds, thrushes, starlings, swallows, and every now and then a stork also pays a visit in the warmer months. Where is the Varm farm located? In southwestern Styria, in the "Schilcherland" region, on the border between the districts of Deutschlandsberg and Leibnitz, the landscape of the Koralpe foothills (western Styria) to the west merges with the distinctive, rugged hills of the Styrian Tuscany (southern Styria) directly to the east. Our farm lies on the edge of Bergla, a district of the municipality of St. Martin im Sulmtal, on a gentle rise about 40 meters above the Sulm River, a natural gem that flows eastward approximately 1 km to the north. To the east, south, and west, gently rolling meadows, pastures, and fields stretch out to the surrounding forests and the ponds beyond, offering an unparalleled, picturesque view. To the south, a mountain ridge with the church of St. Pongratzen (Sv. Pankracij) can be seen, which forms the border with Slovenia at a distance of about 9km from the Radlpass in the west to just before Spielfeld in the east.
