About this campspace #s004349
Your own private space in the middle of a nature reserve. The camping spot is located on a 4ha piece of land in the forest that is privately owned. The main house is far enough from the camping spot to really be secluded and on your own. Your only possible neighbour may be a wild deer, boars and owls as they do visit often. Go back to basics and let yourself be one with nature.
Many walking trails are accessible right on the doorstep, ranging from short strolls in the surrounding forest to a 70km long distance trail. A nature guide for one of your walks can be prebooked, let me know in advance if you're interested. The surrounding hills are also a favourite for mountainbikers.
If you want to mix in a bit of adventure there is a watersport centre only 10 minute drive away.
When you have a chance to stay in the area a little longer, you might also want to do cultural activities. Perhaps visit the small cosy city of Maaseik (15min) with beautiful old buildings and a rich history. There you find the oldest pharmacy in the country and lots of restaurants to spoil yourself a little. Please don’t hesitate to ask for tips. Guided tours are possible when pre-booked. Just let me know in advance when you are interested.
Also a short distance away you can hike or go cycling next to the river ‘Maas’ where you might spot wild horses or cattle that roam freely there. At ‘De Wissen’ you can book a ‘whisper boat’ tour. It is an electric small boat in which you can silently move over the water and enjoy the beautiful sounds of nature and spot plenty of birds.
But if you just want to stay in your camping spot of peacefullness with a good book, that is also a fantastic option!
Drinking water is available for a small fee with an honestybox system.
A shovel is available, but please don’t leave toilet paper in or on the ground. You can burn it in the fire pit or put it in a rubbish bag.
There is firewood available for an extra fee, you will find an honesty box on site. You can find this in the empty cottage house. Please do not use wood lying around in the forest as this is important for the biodiversity. And always keep safety in mind when using fire!
I love dogs, but I love the wild deer being comfortable on the land even more. So well behaved dogs are welcome but cannot roam free. You can use a long leash around a tree at the campspot for instance. Barking dogs running loose are not acceptable inside a nature reserve, this to ensure the safety of wild mammals and birds.
The camping spot is located on a hill, any type of passenger car or van, can make it up; so can small to medium sized mobilhomes (Max length 7m, max width 2,40). But with them it is important that the tires have enough friction and you must be used to driving a mobilhome. Low horsepower and heavy weight might become a problem on wet days. There might be overhanging branches that will touch the roof.
For longer stays : Grocery shops and restaurants are 10 min drive away, but also possible to reach on foot or bike.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

After having worked in South Africa for 5 years as a nature guide doing walking safaris in pristine wilderness areas, I knew when I moved back to Belgium, I had to find a place to live close to nature. And boy did I ! I found a hidden gem in the middle of a nature reserve. The house was build in 1958 by a true nature lover, and I now feel like the luckiest girl in the world that I get to live here. It is so beautiful and unique that I simply must share it with others.
We really enjoyed this Campspace. It is a beautiful setting in the middle of the woods with a lot of privacy. Nice quiet place where you can make a campfire. Very pleasant contact with the landlord. We would love to come back again.

The stay with Cara was unique. A beautiful spot in the middle of a large forest. Cara handily helped us find the place. Highly recommended for campers who love the woods.

Communication with Caro, the host, went smoothly. We had booked 2 nights, but that could have been more. This camping spot is quite unique in Flanders. You stand alone, in the middle of nature, in a 4ha forest. It is very basic, there is water available, but otherwise there are no facilities as described. We were there with a camper van. There is peace, space, nature, privacy and a campfire place. If you have not brought any (or not enough) wood yourself, firewood is available for a fee. There are hiking trails nearby, but you can also just walk around for hours in the woods. We were there now on an autumn weekend, but we definitely want to come back in another season as well. Top spot!

the stay was very nice. Communication with the host was fast and directions clear. There is a nice large open lawn for camping, the possibility to sit covered under a canopy and a possibility to make a campfire. The host supplies drinking water, for the rest, as clearly stated in the description, there are no facilities. A wonderful place in the middle of nature for everyone who loves peace, walking and nature.

I am happy to tell you that the contact with the host was very good. She responded quickly and was open-minded.
This is one of the best camp spots I have been to. You will find relaxation, peace and quiet, warmth from a campfire, and beautiful walks in the neighborhood.
We really appreciate it that she shares this perfect space.

We stayed for 3 nights at this beautiful spot. Its a wonderful place in the middle of the nature: we heard the birds singing, made bread at our own campfire and in the morning we even saw a deer close to our campspot. We loved the quietness. Our host Cara was very friendly and inspiring. She explained us about biodiversity and her plans with this bit of nature. We definitely recommend this place!
We slept for 2 nights in the forest of Cara and that could have been a whole week. The special thing about the place is that it is a beautiful and fascinating piece of forest in a larger nature reserve where you have many hiking opportunities.
Ideal for people who like simplicity and the feeling of wild camping. Everything you need is there: drinking water, a shovel (there is no dry toilet), a place to light a fire and a sympathetic hostess with a vision. Easily accessible for cars and small campers.

The Campspace and host were really great! The place is very remote, you only hear nature and you really have the feeling of being away from everything. The perfect spot to ventilate and enjoy. You experience freedom and tranquility.
Cara is a very nice host. We were able to book very last minute for a group of friends of 6 people, placed one large and one smaller tent. Communication was smooth, friendly and clear. There was a plan, clear agreements about waste and more. The campspace itself is all nature, Cara's description of her campspace is also very accurate.
We stayed on the campspace for 2 nights and did a big walking route. There are supermarkets nearby, walking routes, a large shopping center, you are close to the Dutch and German border. Everything easily accessible by car and / or bicycle.
In short, all 6 of us enjoyed the beautiful place and would definitely come back here and stay even longer.

Please respect the fact that it is a nature reserve. Don’t litter, keep dogs on a leash, do not remove trees, plants or flowers, don’t play music. Please leave the site neatly and the shovel, waterproof bucket and all other tools where you found them.
Please take rubbish with you.
You are welcome to roam around the 4ha land and find little hidden corners with terraces and perhaps an old millstone, but please respect the privacy at the main house.
And most importantly, enjoy! :-)
