Private ISLAND! An oasis of peace in the middle of the Green Heart

Rick

About this campspace #s004697

Spend the night in a 4-season tent, on a recreational island in the middle of the Green Heart of the Netherlands.

PAY ATTENTION:
• For the time being, our campspace can only be booked from the end of May!
• The 'extra tent', or setting up your own tent on our island, is only accepted in combination with a booking of our Sibley Bell tent.

Our 'Kleine Wildernis' is located in the Westeinderplassen, which is part of an extensive peat and lake area with plenty of recreational and water sports opportunities. Less than half an hour's drive from the center of Amsterdam, you will find yourself in a completely different world here. The place is only accessible by water and offers all the peace, space and comfort to fully immerse yourself in Dutch nature - Back to basics!

The island reflects a piece of untouched Dutch nature. Land and water come together here and the lush planting and mature trees provide a natural look. Large native trees such as maple, black alder, birch and willow grow there. You will find a wide variety of native herbs and (depending on the season) apples, cherries, hazelnuts, blueberries, blackberries and black currants grow. Many special birds also live here, such as the spotted woodpecker and the kingfisher.

The island is divided into several lots and this means that we have direct neighbors on one side; a family that recreates here just like us. Furthermore, we are surrounded by water and other islands; that are partly owned by a foundation with the main goal of 'nature conservation'. This really feels like you are in the middle of nature and the location, design and dense planting of our more than 400 m2 private plot means that there is absolute privacy.
The 'Kleine Wildernis' provides for all basic needs, without the use of electricity or running water. There is a small shelter with a kitchenette (gas stove and sink) and a comfortable compost toilet. There is also a camp bed for small children!

The lakes are fantastic for both water sports enthusiasts and nature lovers (one does not exclude the other, of course). The Westeinderplassen nature reserve is seen as one of the best kept secrets of the Amsterdam region and is the largest and most beautiful inland waterway in North Holland. The area has a rich history, which you can learn all about during one of the many boat tours. Aalsmeer has dozens of marinas and restaurants with terraces on the water, you can even moor in the center of the city for a cup of coffee or a message!

Besides peace and quiet - sunbathing on the jetty, afternoon nap in the hammock, relaxing by the campfire - the island offers every opportunity to play, swim and romp. Searching for crayfish, climbing, swinging above the water, picking blackberries, burning a fire, paddleboarding… everything is possible. Our 3-person canoe is free to use.

The island has a large jetty, so you can moor your own boat here. If you do not have a boat yourself, there are plenty of opportunities to rent a boat in the immediate vicinity. But a boat is not a requirement for a wonderful mini vacation on our island; the crossing is also made in no time with our canoe!

Did you know:
- you really shouldn't have been here without exploring this unique area, with its countless (sometimes dead-end) ditches and inner pools, on your own? Hop in our canoe and go exploring!
- you can rent almost everything that floats in the immediate vicinity? sailing boats, whisper boats, an extra canoe, SUP boards and so on.
- Lilacs are the 'cherry in the cake' for flower traders and that 95% of the worldwide cultivation of lilac flowers comes from fields on the uplands of Aalsmeer? These "uplands" largely consist of islands in the Westeinderplassen.
- WE LOVE TO WELCOME YOU TO OUR ISLAND!

Meet Rick, your host

Hi, we are Rick, Yoni & Marley.
Yoni coordinates art education projects for primary school children during the week and Rick recently made the switch from pedagogical assistant to Gardener. We are desert island residents on weekends. We love "Nature" in the broadest sense of the word and often get the happiest of the "little" things in life. We are constantly trying to remind ourselves to share what we have in abundance with others and that is why we want to welcome you with open arms at our CAMPSPACE :)

Rules

1. Stay is entirely at your own risk.
2. We recommend that children without a swimming certificate wear a swimming or life jacket at all times during a stay on our island !!
3. Pets are unfortunately not allowed.
4. Take other holiday makers in the area into account. Please do not amplify music after sunset.
5. A crate of firewood is included with your stay. If you want to heat up more, we will charge you something extra in consultation.
8. Last but not least: please do not only treat our belongings with respect, but also all plants, trees and animals that live on and around the island. Never just pick something from the garden (or the surrounding nature) without consultation, certainly not for consumption.
