Spend the night in a 4-season tent on a recreational island in the middle of the Green Heart of the Netherlands.

PAY ATTENTION:
• Staying at the weekend is unfortunately no longer possible for the rest of the season. Dates are still available on weekdays.
• The 'extra tent', or setting up your own tent on our island, is only possible in combination with a booking of our Sibley Bell tent.

Our 'Kleine Wildernis' is located in the Westeinderplassen, which is part of a vast peat and lake area with plenty of recreational and water sports options. Less than half an hour's drive from the center of Amsterdam, you'll find yourself in a completely different world, were it not for the occasional plane flying over. The place is only accessible by water and offers all the peace, space and comfort to fully immerse yourself in Dutch nature - Back to basic!

The island reflects a piece of untouched Dutch nature. Land and water come together here and the lush vegetation and mature trees provide a natural look. Large native trees such as maple, black alder, birch and willow grow here. You will find a wide variety of native herbs and (depending on the season) grow apples, cherries, hazelnuts, blueberries, blackberries and blackcurrants. Many special birds also live here, such as the spotted woodpecker and the kingfisher.

The island is divided into several plots and this means that we have direct neighbors on one side; a family who recreate here just like us. Furthermore, we are surrounded by water and other islands; that are partly owned by a foundation with the main objective of 'nature conservation'. This makes it really feel like you are in the middle of nature and because of the location, layout and dense planting of our 400 m2 private plot, there is absolute privacy.
The 'Kleine Wildernis' provides all basic needs without the use of electricity or running water. There is a small shelter with a kitchenette (gas stove and sink with water tank) and a comfortable compost toilet. There is also a camping cot available for small children!

The lakes are fantastic for both water sports enthusiasts and nature lovers (one does not exclude the other, of course). The nature reserve of the Westeinderplassen is seen as one of the best kept secrets of the Amsterdam region and is the largest and most beautiful inland waterway in North Holland. The area has a rich history, which you can learn all about during one of the many cruises. Aalsmeer has dozens of marinas and restaurants with terraces on the water, you can even moor in the city center for a cup of coffee or an errand!

In addition to peace and quiet – sunbathing on the dock, afternoon nap in the hammock, bending over by the campfire – the island offers every opportunity to play, swim and romp. Searching for crayfish, climbing, swinging above the water, picking blackberries, stoking a fire… it's all possible. Our 3-person canoe is free to use!

The island has a large mooring jetty, so you can moor here with your own boat. If you don't have a boat yourself, there are plenty of options in the immediate vicinity to rent a boat. But a boat is not a requirement for a wonderful mini-holiday on our island; with our canoe the crossing is also made in no time!

Did you know:
- you really shouldn't have been here without exploring this unique area, with its countless (sometimes dead-end) ditches and inner pools, on your own? Jump in our canoe and go exploring!
- you can rent almost anything that floats in the immediate vicinity? sailing boats, whisper boats, an extra canoe, SUP boards and so on.
- lilacs are the 'raisins in the porridge' for flower traders and that 95% of the worldwide cultivation of lilac flowers comes from fields on the Aalsmeer upland? These "uplands" largely consist of islands in the Westeinderplassen.
- WE LOVE TO WELCOME YOU TO OUR ISLAND!

Hi, we are Rick, Yoni & Marley.
Yoni coordinates art education projects for primary school children and Rick recently made the transition from pedagogical employee to gardener. On weekends we are uninhabited islanders. We love 'Nature' in the broadest sense of the word and often become happiest of the "little" things in life. We constantly try to remind ourselves that we have to share what we have in abundance with others and that's why we want to welcome you with open arms on our CAMPSPACE :)

Visiting this Campspace was a great adventure! Prior to our visit we received a document from Rick and Yoni with all the necessary information, very useful. The adventure started when we arrived at the canoe and started looking for the island by means of some clues. Once we arrived at the island we immediately saw a very cool tent and wooden hut. The spacious tent is equipped with a lovely mattress. And in the wooden hut you will find a kitchenette with a gas stove and the necessary equipment to prepare a simple meal. You will also find a compost toilet in the wooden hut. There is no electricity or running water on the island, but Rick and Yoni have thought of that too. There are candles and torches everywhere, and a jerry can with clean drinking water is connected to the tap in the kitchen. Tip: Take a power bank with you if you do need power. There is enough firewood, so we ended the evening with a lovely fire.
The area is quiet, the only thing you occasionally hear are airplanes or boats passing by. For hours we enjoyed the beautiful nature from the canoe. But we also just enjoyed the view from the picnic bench on the jetty. It is recommended to go and eat an eel sandwich with the canoe at Palingrokerij Dirk & Anneke Eveleens, this is about 20 minutes of paddling.
The combination of glamping and back to basic that Rick and Yoni have created is really great! They have thought of everything, but in a simple and responsible way. We definitely recommend this Campspace and we would like to come and enjoy ourselves again!

What a beautiful island you have! Super fun to use the canoe and discover the area. And how nice that you have torches everywhere, makes it very cozy when it's dark :)

The kids loved it and so did we. The private canoe is great. Beautiful place, there is clearly a lot of time and energy and passion in the garden and the entire site with a lot of attention to ecology.

How was the contact with the host?
Perfect. Thank you for your hospitality!

Tips for new guests?
The ground can be a bit wet, so bring practical clothes, also useful for the canoe. Sometimes there were small mosquitoes, but the smoke from a campfire certainly helps.

A Sibley Bell 4-season tent, with a ground surface of 16 m2. The cotton tent stands on a hardwood deck and is resistant to all weather influences. For a comfortable night, in a setting that is otherwise deliberately 'back to basic', the tent is furnished with a double mattress!
