Farm camping in the Eifel
Quiet meadow close to nature with a view of our Heidschnuckenweide. The farm is on the outskirts of Wachendorf, at the foot of the northern Eifel and is a wonderful starting point for relaxation in nature. With us you will find space on a spacious meadow with an unobstructed view of the landscape, a fire in the evening, products from our Heidschnucke and chilled drinks. We look forward to you!
The listed Vierkanthof in the Eifel is home to our manufactory for tuned chimes. Here you get an insight into the production of the handmade chimes.
Our factory shop is also located in the yard. We sell our own ringing products as well as gongs and singing bowls, selected gifts, a diverse range of poinsettias and products from our Heidschnucke sheep.
More offers:
- Washer/dryer per load: €5

We are chime builders, designers and multi-craftsmen. For more than 20 years we have been living and working in the historic, listed half-timbered square courtyard in the Eifel.
The open-air museum in Kommern, 13 km away, offers a historical journey of discovery. Everything about knights and jousting can be found in Satzvey Castle, only 5 km away.
You can see the Brother Klaus Feldkapelle by the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor from the pitch, it is only 800 m away.

First is super friendly and has several parking spaces. You're standing in the middle of a large meadow and the Heidschnucken in question occasionally stop by (they're fenced in, of course).
How was the contact with the host?
First is super friendly, shows you everything right away and is always available to help and advise. Every pitch has a fire bowl for a campfire and there is a wheelbarrow of wood for a small price. Chilled drinks can also be purchased. The selection is large, well sorted and inexpensive.

When you arrive, please drive to the entrance to the square and stop at the sign. Ernst's number is written on it. Then give us a quick call and Ernst will come by and show you your parking space. Please note the picture.

Quiet, private, literally next to the Heidschnucken. Amenities are minimal but sufficient. If I had to give one suggestion for an improvement it would be for some form of ventilation in the shower room, even if only a passive vent in the door. Sorry again about my failure to sort our waste!

This is an original campsite (shop with nice stuff, you can beat gongs yourself, fire with bbq grill, etc.), beautifully situated for walking and cycling. It looks messy here and there, but that has to do with the Christmas market history of the owners and that also makes it charming. Ernst indicated that he is working on extra toilets and showers, now there is 1 combi toilet / shower and I think that is very scanty. Camping is in the start-up phase.

Campsite is rustique. A nice yard with beautiful trees and cute sheep as direct neighbours.
Just one shower and toilet for all guests. Thought that might be a problem but it wasn’t. Still, a seperate toilet would be nice for when it’s occupied by someone showering. For campers eith own facilities its no problem.

Very friendly hosts. Relaxed and helpful. They have refrigerated refreshments for sale. Great after a long, hot walk. Also they make magnificent wind chimes that sound beautiful and sell very impressive gongs. If we didn’t have direct neighbours, I would have bought one.

Our week with the Heidschnucke was wonderful. Ernst is a very pleasant host, very accommodating. There is something very soothing about the Schnucken. And there are lots of great things to see in the area. The only small drawback: there is only a shower and a toilet, which are in the same room.
May 2023 · Translated from german
It's a shame when you look at what we have to offer: Because if we could also offer a toilet/shower facility, we would soon be a real campsite, it would also cost a lot more money or everyone would stand there like the sardines in the sardine can, the dogs would then always have to be on a leash and Ernst would certainly no longer collect and dispose of the dog residue on the finely mowed lawn.

Nice campspace with all facilities such as water, electricity, fire pit, ...
There is also a small kitchen where you can cook or do the dishes. Toilet is also available. You are standing on a meadow with a beautiful view of the surroundings.
In the evening it is absolute peace. You certainly won't be bothered by the 'heidschnucken'.
From the campspace you can immediately go on nice walks or bike rides.
There are no facilities in the village, only a small shop.
Be careful in wet weather because the surface is clay. With a heavy camper you could get stuck.
Only downside: €3 pp for a shower is quite expensive and should be included in the price.
How was the contact with the host?
The contact with Ernst was very good. Cool guy. We were warmly welcomed and immediately received the necessary explanation. Good agreements make good friends. You can also contact Ernst for everything. It gives you a lot of privacy. We had been given a wheelbarrow of wood, but were always allowed to take fresh wood if necessary.
Tips for new guests?
You can take walks directly from the campspace. Via Komoot you have a lot of alternatives both in the area and in the surrounding villages. Satzvey Castle is well worth a visit.
Near Satzvey you have the 'Shavener heide' but it is not open every day because this is a military area. Too bad because beautiful surroundings.
We also cycled to Bad Munstereifel via back roads and made beautiful walks from there.
Keep in mind that this neighborhood has suffered heavily from the flood of 2021 and so there are still repair works going on here and there.
But this region is definitely recommended.

Beautiful, spacious place. The welcome was somewhat unpleasant. Ideal if you want to be on your own.
How was the contact with the host?
The start was a little less pleasant. I had driven the car and caravan onto the field. The host was clearly not happy with this and wished we had waited at the entrance due to tire tracks in the grass. I get his point and immediately pointed that out. The fact that he kept repeating this emphatically 3 to 4 times made the welcome unpleasant. The host pointed out a sign with instructions at the entrance. This sign is a laminated A4 sheet on a tree, which is impossible to read from the car and easy to miss. The sparse contact with the host was otherwise okay.
Tips for new guests?
Wait at the entrance of the field ;)
October 2022 · Translated from dutch
Thanks for the feedback.
But I would like to correct it briefly:
1. It is not a field but a mowed lawn which should only be driven on if absolutely necessary, especially in the current season.
2. The information sign does not hang from a tree, but hangs on an extra post, on a solid oak support board, directly on the paved driveway and has not yet been overlooked.
3. The sign is easily readable from the car.
4. In the instructions to avoid misunderstandings, which every guest is sent before they come to us, this instruction is also very clear.
5. The fact that I repeated this several times was due to the obvious lack of understanding of my request, which is also clearly reflected here in the feedback.
Yes, we have very clear rules here at the farm, but they are simple and clear and are communicated in advance. This is the only way we can maintain the quality and beauty of our near-natural pitches. The sum of the many very positive reviews shows us clearly how attractive our pitches are.

Tell us about your experience
Staying with Ernst should have been our last stop of our motorhome holiday. Unfortunately, that turned out to be slightly different and we left after a few hours, after we felt that we were not treated correctly by the owner.
It was our first time traveling with a motorhome and we were looking forward to the region where Ernst's campsite was located.
At the previous campsites we always had a great feeling of freedom and had hoped that this would also be the case with him. We had initially placed ourselves next to the sheep pasture, but in hindsight we thought it was not so ideal. Because we were the only ones on the campsite, we decided to move a little further, where we could better place our camper.
However, this was not to Ernst's liking. "When you make a choice, the choice has been made and you have to stick to your decision," she responded. The place where we stood would have been reserved for another camper. Did we know this? No! Did we know that this campsite worked with fixed pitches? No! Did we know that you could reserve a place? No! When we tried to make it clear to Ernst that this was a misunderstanding, we ran into a lot of misunderstanding. According to him, there was no room for discussion and we didn't follow the "basic rules of communication" (whatever that means) and according to him we clearly didn't know how the world worked...
I can understand somewhere that the owner works according to a certain principle and that he would like this to be followed as well as possible. But if he is too stubborn to listen and put the situation into perspective, then I have doubts about his idea of communication.
Because we didn't feel like spending our last days of vacation on the tips of our toes, we quickly decided that this was not the camping experience we were looking for. We quickly decided that we wanted to leave as soon as possible for another campsite and we did. That turned out to be the right decision.
I am sorry that our experience had to end this way. We felt more like a user of Ernst's land than a guest of Ernst and I don't think that's the intention. Shame on our money...
How was the contact with the host?
The contact in advance went very smoothly. The contact at the moment is spasmodic and one-sided.
Tips for new guests?
Maybe there was just no match between us and the owner, but through this review I want to warn people about a situation like this.
