Investors put € 1,000,000 in booking platform Campspace

March 2021 – Campspace has raised more than 1 million euros from a group of experienced investors from the Dutch and European business community. Founded in 2017 by a group of Dutch individuals, the sustainable booking platform for unique and outdoor overnight stays, can be expanded at an increased rate at home, in the Netherlands, and abroad. And Corona year 2020 was a breakthrough year with a growth of 1100 percent in bookings and a fourfold increase in the number of participating hosts.

Sustainable lifestyle includes sustainable travel

CEO Hugo van Donselaar about the future growth plans: “The first goal is acceleration in the Netherlands and Belgium. We are also starting experiments in neighboring countries, to facilitate the organization of sustainable trips there too. Our mission is to Reconnect Outside. We want to make it easy for as many people as possible to 'reconnect' with each other at unique outdoor locations, with themselves, with their travel buddies, and with the local hosts. Corona has several trends put into gear. Such as living more consciously and therefore, traveling more consciously. It is bizarre when you look at CO2 emissions. Twenty Campspace bookings equate to 1 weekend trip to Barcelona. But also trends such as going outside, and taking a break from your devices, you name it. We are the right platform at the right time.”

Various offers for camping enthusiasts

The camping spots’ hosts provide tents, campers, cabins, and other simple accommodations on Campspace. They are mostly private individuals with a large garden or a large piece of land. Also, many farms offer a holiday between cows and wheat fields. “The pure outdoor locations,” says Van Donselaar. “Make a fire together, cook together and enjoy the peace and simplicity of nature together”.

Prices for a stay are still very civilized. “We are concerned with a unique holiday experience that does not require you to fly to Bali or Australia. In a forest in Drenthe, you can get as much inspiration. People are now rediscovering that. And due to the circumstances, they are increasingly aware of the importance of concepts such as staying local and supporting your locals.”
