About this campspace

Camping spot in the Kanteltuin for naturists.
NB! Hot tub heater under repair!
A small to medium-sized tent can be set up at the back of the edible fruit garden. We have 4 garden chairs and a coffee table for you. Your tent cannot be seen from the house, so wonderfully private. On the other side of your camping spot lives Leon, a European Eagle Owl. With wheelbarrows you bring your camping gear to your hideaway in our garden. This place is in the countryside, so countryside sounds are normal here. Barking dogs, the crowing of a rooster, the eagle owl's eagle owl and the many sounds of the birds that visit our garden, or that fly over. Sometimes pheasants also visit. Then it must be very quiet, because as soon as they hear something or see us, they fly off. Here and there a heron comes to see if he can catch some fish from our pond. In short, it is enjoying the deafening silence of nature, full of sounds from the countryside. For those who want to be super healthy, there is a cold outdoor shower (alla Wim Hof), where we take a cold shower ourselves almost every morning. Yes really. All year round. Only if the water is frozen, it can't. Being naturist is not a condition, but the host and hostess are and, as mentioned, take a shower outside every morning. So you can run into us naked, you shouldn't have any objection to that. Within cycling distance you will find the Drouwenerzand nature reserve, the nice village of Borger with the dolmen museum and if you want to go shopping, Stadskanaal is also an option.
You are visiting ONS Kantelhuis, a project in the making of Stichting Herkansing. Your stay helps to realize a temporary shelter. We make our own donation products from the fruits of the garden. Such as jam, apple sauce, but also our own tomato tapenade, cashew nut paste, and much more. You can have breakfast with our fresh buns, baked from the special red wheat or yellow wheat (ancient grains). Come and discover our garden and the beautiful surroundings and be welcome in our little paradise.

Your host, Quinta en Max

I am Quinta and together with Max we have a paradise garden (permaculture principles). You can come camping in our garden. I share my garden to fund the Herkansing Foundation (your contribution is a donation to the foundation) so that we can realize a shelter for people who can use a time-out. Search ONS Kantelhuis if you want more information. Of course I can tell you all about it when you come camping with us. I am also a researcher and teacher at the Customer Perspective in Support and Care research group and chair of the European Anti Poverty Network. Some idealism is not strange to me ;). You are very welcome to enjoy our little paradise.

Tips

  • Breakfast with our special red wheat balls (ancient grain) with homemade jam, cashew nut paste and tomato tapenade (from the donation cart)

  • From your spot you can see beautiful sunsets

  • Saturday market in Stadskanaal. Tuesday in Borger

  • Across the street is the buffet restaurant De Gulle Boergondiër. Direction Borger, near Buinen you will find El Zorro, tappas restaurant. For an alternative cafe, Gaselternijveen Nieuwetijdscafe 13

We camped in this lovely garden at the end of September for a wonderful weekend. Despite the fact that it was quite cool, we were able to stay nice and warm next to the fire and the fantastic hot tub, highly recommended to book with it. It's nice that there is a normal toilet in the house and a hot shower if necessary. Electricity for the telephone and getting water from the shed worked fine for us, but it is recommended to take a water bag with you because that saves quite a bit of walking.

How was the contact with the host?
Quinta and Max had just the right mix between appropriate distance and accessibility for a chat. Very friendly people who are happy to serve you and have tips for the area.

Tips for new guests?
The camping spot is nicely private in the back of the garden. You can't get here by car, but there are wheelbarrows to transport your stuff.

Relaxed stay in Max and Quinta's private edible paradise. Camping pitch (the only one) located at the back of the garden with a view over the wide eastern Groningen landscape.
Nice evening in the wood-fired hot tub. On request also provided with a nice bottle of dry white wine (with glass!). With (background) sounds of fellow paradise resident Leon the European Eagle Owl, ducks, chickens and a rooster. Delicious tasted of various fruits from the paradise edible garden.
It is a pity that despite the presence of electricity (phone charging) and drinking water elsewhere in the garden, this is not available on the camping site, but must be obtained from the shed at the house (on the other side of the garden). It would improve comfort if it were available closer.

How was the contact with the host?
Good contact before and during the stay with the guest couple; Max and Quinta.
Good reception with information/tour.
(additional charge) Enjoyed outdoor hot tub, wood fire and wine.

Tips for new guests?
Make sure you are not dependent on your car at the camping site. A car cannot reach the spot (not even for a moment), so do not inflate a tent (Karsten) or an air mattress with a pump connected to a car cigarette lighter, and carry it around (possibly using the available wheelbarrow). And make sure you have the possibility to bring a larger amount of water to your tent (water bag / jerry can), because the water tap is a long walk.
Nearby: Bourtange and Boomkroonpad are fun to visit.
All in all: recommended!

Thanks for the tip for the water. Planning to bring the water closer to the hot tub. So is the outdoor shower. Perhaps there will also be an electricity point. Thanks for the recommendation, see you soon and best wishes to Einstein.

Excellent and genuinely hospitable.

Tips for new guests?
In any case, try the hearty, delicious sandwiches from baker Max, which can be delivered warm to your tent in the morning.....
