20 years ago from Belgium sought peace and space in Drenthe. Here we live together with nature and would like to take others into it.

Despite the rain showers we had a very nice camping holiday.

How was the contact with the host?
Very good. We were warmly welcomed with tea and a slice of cake. We also received fresh eggs from their own chickens twice.

Tips for new guests?
Take an ax with you to chop up the large pieces of wood so that you can start a nice campfire.
Take a walk to and through the Orvelter sand.
Walk through the wide area.

Brave campers you are!
What a weather I thought to myself. But you drove up and really… the sun broke through. And in between the showers you did indeed have a great camping experience!
Thanks for the photos; we will add them😁
You were nice people to have as guests. See you next time!

I was received very well and hospitably by Roel and Sandra. 1 night in the hammock in the beautiful backyard in Orvelte. I was allowed to use the toilet inside and there was the possibility to make a campfire. It was a cold night, but the delicious breakfast in the sun made up for it! An experience richer as this was my first solo (hammock) overnight stay. Highly recommended

How was the contact with the host?
Good! I had called in advance and communicated my arrival.

Tips for new guests?
Enjoy!!

Hi Bass,

You were only here for a short time, and apparently that was long enough for a first experience 😁, and that in our garden!!
We also had a first: you were our first guest I made breakfast for…
And I quite like it actually.

Thank you for the attached photos
Who knows, maybe we'll see you again
You are most welcome!

Lovely spot in a beautifully landscaped garden on the edge of a grove and meadows.
The seat under the wooden shelter was ideal when it started to splash. Funny to experience the experiences of Mr. and Mrs. Stork from so close up.

How was the contact with the host?
Roel and Sandra are very hospitable and helpful. It's also nice to see how they want to live and live as sustainably as possible.

You stay in their backyard but you have a lot of privacy. Behind the garden is a small piece of forest, so you can't get closer to nature. Dog, chickens and many storks in the area. Had my tent set up to the east, so a beautiful sunrise in the morning!

How was the contact with the host?
The contact was very good, we had a nice conversation with Roel and Sandra. On arrival it was explained where to find everything and I was offered a tray of tea from Sandra. Well settled!!

Tips for new guests?
Sandra and Roel have made a nice sitting area where you can also light a campfire.
Make use of it.

Paul, thank you for your nice words!!

This cycling Irish Dutchman completely matches our environment:
quietly enjoying a cup of herbal tea, looking out over the land of farmer Nico and interested in the connection between people and nature.
Paul, we (and our dog Yindi) would love to see you again.

Nice, small camping spot with a view over the farmer's field. Wooden cabin on the property with the possibility for an open fire in a fire bowl. A pair of storks looks down on the camping site.
The guest toilet is located in the owners' home. That is absolutely no problem.

How was the contact with the host?
Great welcome, very welcoming and helpful owners.

Tips for new guests?
For the early birds: you will be woken up by the rooster, the clattering of the storks and the ducks also add to the fun :-)
Good tip: the historic village of Orvelte is within walking distance and well worth a visit.

You managed to experience the maximum in that short time:
Walking, cycling, going out for dinner, experiencing nature, chatting, visiting a museum and, above all, laughing a lot!
Delicious!

A great two day stay in a place where everything is right! I stood in the shade under the Notenboom. A stork's nest with two young that produce the most bizarre sounds, a view of the rising full moon, a wood fire... A wonderfully quiet base from which to explore the village of Orvelte and the surrounding area.

How was the contact with the host?
With Sandra and Roel (and the funny dog) it "clicked" immediately. My interest in the Drenthe landscape was immediately answered with a beautiful book and a folder with all kinds of routes and information to browse.
In between we had surprising, personal conversations about our shared interests.
A place where you feel welcome, I certainly hope to come back!

Tips for new guests?
Keep your distance from the stork's nest: they can "aim" quite well ;-)!
Sandra and Roel know the area well: ask for tips!
If you want to take a shower, you have to use your own water bag.

Roel and Sandra have a great place! We were made very welcome and had a wonderful time. We were allowed to use the garden and we also lit a campfire there together with Roel and Sandra. The place and the cosiness felt like coming home. Everything is beautiful within cycling distance. The stork had 2 cubs that were almost about to fledge which was a joy to watch.

Beautiful place in a beautiful garden, with nice seating areas and an unobstructed view.
Well located, next to Orvelte and near Westerbork.

How was the contact with the host?
I was received very hospitably by Sandra. I was lucky that she had just baked a nice cake when I was there.
Sandra and Roel are perfect hosts.

Tips for new guests?
Museum de Proefkolonie in Veenhuizen is not that far away, and definitely worth a visit. I have never spent so long in a museum.
