Our fort is part of the New Dutch Waterline, a defense line that could not be started until 1845. This line runs from Muiden to the Biesbosch and contains more than 60 fortifications.

It is a tower fortress and was built in 1845. A major renovation was already taking place in 1878: the construction of the Contrescarp.

Tips

  • A drink on the cozy terrace at the fort

  • Make a cozy campfire in the evening

Very nice place! And cozy terrace with a tasty breakfast.

How was the contact with the host?
Friendly host, thoughtful and service-oriented.

Tips for new guests?
Due to a permit, it is necessary to book 1 full tent spot per tent (even if it is very small). We didn't quite understand what it was like. But luckily it wasn't busy and it wasn't a problem.

Very cool and unique location. We have been on the camping field.
A fire pit is well worth it. The environment around the fort is also superb.
Everything was neat and clean, sanitary facilities are fairly new and modern.
The staff was super nice and helpful.

How was the contact with the host?
Super, good help at the bar / reception

Tips for new guests?
Book a chest with wood + fire bowl.

What a nice place and how great that there is room here for glamping tents as well as people who set up their own tent. Camping on a fort is very cool anyway, but on top of that it's just a nice camping spot in a beautiful environment and there are quite a lot and good facilities (catering) while it all feels small-scale.

How was the contact with the host?
Fine. Quick response to the reservation. Would have been nice if we were told on arrival that you can use a handcart to carry your stuff (great that there are by the way). Very nice and attentive people.

Tips for new guests?
There are some lovely little beaches nearby.
You can buy breakfast with it and that is very tasty.

Camping on a fort is like a little adventure. It starts when you arrive over a bridge at the fort. A beautiful old historic building. As a camping guest, I am allowed to walk through the fort. From the toilet and shower rooms in the fort, I have to go through a tunnel in the fort to enter the camping field. From this field, we have a nice view over the river Waal. While sitting in the sun, We can see the big boats passing by from here. There are a lot of possibilities for nice walks along the river. It is also possible to visit Castle Loevestein on the other side of the river. You can reach it with a water taxi.
In the evening we made a campfire on one of the firepits. A nice stay at a beautiful historical place.

We had a fantastic time at Fort Vuren. Our hosts were so helpful, even though we came to them with questions at weird times or when they were having a break. They have just started managing the accommodations and everything worked very well. The area is beautiful for camping, we had a nice spot under the trees. Vuren itself is calm, you can swim in the river Waal or take the ferry to the castle or a fortified town. Every day, we had some beers on their cosy terrace. I would definitely recommend visiting this place!

Good campground, showers and place to charge devices. We paid extra for firewood which was a nice touch. Check in was a little confusing as we didn't get an instruction email and the gate was locked on arrival. We didn't get to eat at the restaurant as it was closed when we arrived.

Super nice place, excellent sanitary facilities.
We had the most beautiful spot of the campsite, with a view of the Waal.
Unfortunately, because of this, it was built in at the back by other tents that were placed after us, which made reaching the tent an adventure.
Super nice to walk into the fort through the corridor for the shower and toilet.

How was the contact with the host?
It was fine before.
It was a bit more difficult on the spot, the young staff in the cafe is not very well informed about the agreements.
As a result, we had to wait, for example, two hours before we could set up our tent (check-in would only be from 15:00), while guests could start working with their tent the next day in the morning.

Tips for new guests?
Rent the fire bowl :-D.

There is electricity, but we found out too late that we could not reach the power point from our beautiful spot.
Not a big deal in itself, but perhaps something to watch out for if power is very important to you.

Very nice area, crawling distance from the Waal so that makes for beautiful walks. Quiet area, now and then a motorbike that drives over the dike, but of course you also have to give it a nice ride ;). Surprisingly spacious, only we expected some more power points; there was one large kitchen island with sinks and sockets, but the reel we had with us was not long enough. Clean sanitary facilities, neatly maintained and always toilet paper. Parking space nearby and carts for the stuff to get it onto the site. Also a nice terrace where you can eat and drink something :)

How was the contact with the host?
Well, everything was clear and on arrival we got a map from a young man at the bar who could tell us where everything was.

Tips for new guests?
Beautiful nature reserve nearby for walking. Gorinchem is also not far, and is a nice town to sit on the terrace or just stroll through. There are a number of small beaches where you can sit beautifully on the water. Above all: a wonderful place to relax! :)

Nice camping spot, tents looked good, refrigerator available on location (near the tipis). Fire pit was also very nice and easy to light. For €20 it was very little wood.

How was the contact with the host?
Bad. Email with important information was not received (sent to wrong email), campspace stated that linen was included so we did not include this. Have to pay extra on the spot. We also missed further information that would have been useful in advance. Even if this had gone well, it would have been a perfect place.
