Goodermote site

About this campspace #s003092
Goodermote mercantile, is a refurbished 1840s stage coach stop and mercantile. We provide "country hospitality" to our guests including a quiet restful sleeping loft out in a small garden orchard. A fire ring for sitting out at night under the prairie skies. There is so little light pollution that one can actually spend the night counting satelites cruising across the skies along with watching falling starts or on some occasions, the Northern light as they dance through the night skies. This alternative camp site is nestled near a backyard homestead experimental classroom where we teach alternative techniques to growing one's own foods and how to use "old pioneer" equipment. Guests can join in the gardening, wood working projects or feeding the poultry if they want. Photos of the critters are posted here to illustrate we really do have farm animals!
Dog guests are welcome and accommodations are provided for them. Other pets such as horses or cart goats will also be offered accommodations. Other types on pets will be a one-on-one decision by the hosts. We are an Animal Friendly space, but must consider the safety of all, including your animals & our animals. We can accommodate sleeping bag, tarp or Hammock camping, tent camping, rv trailer or camper on pickupl as well as have a lofted cabin that looks over a treed glade. Whether your transportion is motorcycle, car, caravan, camper, foot, bike, horse or dog cart. We are happy to accommodate. We are just off US highway 14, which leads a trekker to Sturgis, the Black Hills & Mount Rushmore. So if traveling west we are the ideal stop off point for rest as you continue to explore the high plains of South Dakota.

Meet Anisah, your host

I (Anisah) am the aggie who raises critters and crops.
We are building up our new homestead that was originally established in the early 1900s by German immigrant farmer who immigrated to the region. We are history buffs n nerds. We seek to create creative hobbit holes and camping space for guests whether its respite from the fast pace life of modern America or just a weekend hunting trip to where the deer & antelope play. Hope to see you soon.
Homestead projects always abound if you seek to have hands-on experience!
