TOURISM AND CULTURE ON THE MAIFELD

Where the low mountain range of the Eifel merges into the valley of the Moselle, lies the high plateau of the Maifeld - a very unique landscape compared to its neighbors: wide, fertile fields cover the gently undulating hills like a patchwork quilt, only occasionally interrupted by hedgerows and small villages and surrounded by the deeply incised, densely wooded valleys of the Elzbach and Nette rivers.

Only a few kilometers away from Münstermaifeld lies the Eltz Castle. It enchants with its hidden location in the middle of wild nature and its unique architecture. Eltz Castle is one of the few castles that survived the Middle Ages without destruction.

Hikers will find a wide selection on the Maifeld: No less than three of the 27 dream trails lure hikers to the Maifeld, and two dream trails, one in Polch, one in Ochtendung, invite strollers to take a slightly smaller loop.

Two dream trails: "Eltzer Burgpanorama" - which can be ideally combined with a visit to Eltz Castle - and the dream trail "Pyrmonter Felsensteig" have already received the award "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail". The dream trail "Nette-Schieferpfad" leads on a varied route through the former slate mining area in the Nette valley in Trimbs. Numerous information boards explain, among other things, slate mining and the work of the miners.

Visible from afar, the historic town of Münstermaifeld with its imposing former collegiate church towers on a hill. Besides the collegiate church and the historic old town, a visit to the two museums in the old provostry is a must: the Heimat- und Erlebnismuseum presents an extensive collection of old store furnishings and a recreated old schoolroom. In the Maifeld Archaeological Museum you can dive into earlier times: The vaulted cellar under the Tourist Information presents archaeological excavation finds from the early days of the Maifeld. The archaeological museum can be visited free of charge as part of guided tours of the town! After these exciting insights into early times, families in particular like to relax in the municipal outdoor pool.

Exceptional museums can also be found elsewhere. In Polch, "Christina's Stube" awaits you in a house that is over 150 years old and offers an insight into the living culture of our grandparents and great-grandparents on the Maifeld.
