About this campspace

Our home is rich in history, a former horn comb factory dating back centuries, and we live with our feet in the water. We welcome travelers to our gîte "du chant de la rivière", where we live in the summer with occasional family and friends. The 150-metre garden allows us to accommodate a tent with two or three people in a bivouac area. We're warm, friendly people who like to get to know each other, and we're looking forward to spending a few evenings together in an exceptional and unique setting, which some say is "magical". The glorious experiences we've had in the gîte give us confidence that we can share this place, which takes you out of time and everyday life.

You'll be lulled to sleep by the "song of the river", where you can watch birds such as kingfishers, squirrels and dragonflies galore, and hear the rooster crow, for that's what the countryside is all about (but he sings just fine, don't worry). From the bivouac area, you can walk through the forest to the Roquefort waterfalls, 2.5 km away. The coolness of the night will make you forget for a while the ordeal of the heat of the cities and will allow you to spend excellent nights. The village's elevated position gives you a bird's eye view of the Pays d'Olmes. Sightseeing and cultural attractions are close at hand, such as the extraordinary garden at Lieurac (2kms walk on footpaths) or the Neylis mill, 600 meters away. The garden is well-kept and you can use the table and barbecue.

The activities
Hiking, cycling or horse-riding, Cathar castles and sites such as Montségur, geological curiosities such as the intermittent river at Fontestorbes or the underground river at Labouiche, numerous caves such as the one at Mas d'Azil, the Comtale town of Foix or the medieval town of Mirepoix, Lac de Montbel and its water sports activities or the exceptional village of Carla Bayle with its lake, you'll be spoilt for choice. We are ambassadors for Ariège! As for the front door of the bivouac, water and hiking are the main activities. Atypical sightseeing aboard a 1981 2CV with local guide Nicole, to anchor extraordinary memories in your mind. Madeleine de Proust for some, baptism for others, experience a magical moment.

Other things
We are very respectful of the environment, and of people. We only accept travelers who share these values. You may come across us on your way to the sanitary facilities.
The canoe is decorative and not for loan, due to its age and fragility.

Hosts of a gîte called "the song of the river" for 9 months of the year in an exceptional setting on the banks of a magnificent small river, we are located in an isolated hamlet in the low mountains, in the heart of the Cathar territory, rich in Art and History which is the Pays d'Olmes. We occupy this gîte in summer. A large outdoor space at the water's edge will be available to you as long as you also agree to meet us there with our perfectly socialized dog Romeo. We are used to welcoming family and friends and offer a bivouac area for a tent. This place is magnificent and some even say it is magical if you like nature, dragonflies and kingfishers. The fresh, pure water is a real pleasure that flows all year round in which you access the tent jump. Hiking trails and cultural visits are also on our doorstep. I am also a local tourist guide and I will take you aboard my 2 CV from 1981 to experience an absolutely atypical tourist experience, out of time, with kindness and humor through sublime landscapes. You can discover our site on you tube “gîte le chant de la rivière”. Welcome!
