There is no cell reception in the mountains. Make sure you have reviewed all of your information stored online and have made appropriate plans before heading out to the property.
If you would like to have a fire, please either bring your own wood or collect/cut/chop deadfall. DO NOT cut or damage any live trees.
We have two indigenous varieties of poisonous snakes (Copperhead and Timber Rattlesnake). Do not put your hands where you can't see and watch where you step especially around old rotting logs/stumps, wood piles, and rocks. If you find a snake, leave it alone.
We have poison oak and poison ivy as well as stinging nettles along the river. Learn to identify and avoid these plants.
A high tension powerline cuts through the property and serves both as a fire break and an access road. When near it on humid days, sometimes you can hear it crackle, which is normal.
The scenic property nestled in the mountains of West Virginia and is wrapped by the Cacapon River. You can enjoy high mountain views or hike to the river valley and enjoy the creek and river. The majority of the property is forested, but the area opened by the powerline easement makes for easier access throughout the property and unobstructed views.
The activities
If relaxing on the ridge line and enjoying the views are not enough, hike down to the river via the powerline cut or trails and swim, paddle your canoe or kayak, or fish (WV license required...one day passes are available online). You can also hike the creek running through the deep hollow, which follows the state access road while enjoying dark Hemlock woods and shale cliffs. If you like to mountain bike, you will find the mountain access roads and trails offer you some back country riding fun. The trails are equally fun for horse back riding or ATVs. During the winter when snow is heavy, you can snow shoe or cross country ski the trails.

Fire is our top concern and is strictly enforced. Any fire must be attended at all times. Never leave a fire unattended. All fires must be completely extinguished (cold to the touch) before leaving. Do not build campfires on windy days irrespective other conditions. Failure to comply will result in termination of the rental and full liability for any fire damage. During exceptionally dry periods, open fire restrictions may be put in effect. All local restrictions must be obeyed. If fire danger restrictions are in effect, you will be informed when booking.
Children and pets are welcome, but must be attended at all times. Renters are fully responsible. Be extremely vigilant with children around the steep slopes, pond, and river.
Smoking is permitted, but do not leave butts on the ground and ensure all ashes are in an ash tray or campfire circle.
You must bag out all garbage and waste. Do not use the bathroom in the woods. Cat holes and such are not permitted so campers must bring and use a camp toilet. Our water table is close to the surface and feces will quickly poison our ground water as well as make our campsites disgusting.
Do not leave food unattended. All food must be properly stored when unattended. Clean up all scraps, dropped food, and drips. We have Black Bears and they will come after any available food. If they can get it, they become dangerous problem bears and must be euthanized. We like our bears so please do not feed them!
We have a wide variety of wildlife and some are protected species such as the Bald Eagle. Please enjoy it, but do not harass or harm it.
Do not cut, chop, pick, dig, or damage any live trees or plants.
Do not climb on the cliffs. They are shale and do not provide secure footing or handholds. Further, if you fall, no one may find you for some time and some areas are extremely difficult to access in the event of an emergency.
