Terra da Árvores de Maio / or 'Maytreeland': This is a part woodland preservation/restoration project and grassland of around 6000sq metres. There is a sloping wild meadow on half the land with boulders, where you can hear the nearby river.
Much of the land has the 'Maytree' or Hawthorn, Pilriteiro in Portuguese, hence the name.
A third of the land contains young oak tree woodland, on a slope, with some flat areas to camp.
The site is being improved, so there will be electric solar, solar shower and larger cook area added in the near future.
Meanwhile 5euros per person per night. Please do message to check latest updates.
You will get a pitch of your own with plenty of space around, small barbecue/firewood bowl and drinking water (NOTE: During the dry and hot season there will be no barbecue/firewood at pitches).
Phones may be able to be charged by if needed.
With a max capacity of 4/6 people, there will be lots of room.
There are views from here down the small valley.
Then, there is a terrace area with large walls, with plum trees and grass, where an agriculture area was.
The trees on the land include Hawthorn, Olive, Plum,
Fig and Oak. In season you can have the Fig and Plum.
20 years ago, the land had fire through, so evidence of this can still be seen, with burnt out central stumps of the Olive trees. Many of the Oak trees in the woodland area, are young trees also, as well as most of the Plum trees are regrowth.
There is a stone watercourse for a spring, in the process of being renovated.
The area is well connected to the National Hiking 'GR' signposted routes. There are waterfalls nearby, within ten minutes walk. Also, the old Mill ruins on the river.
Around the land is nearly all wild woodland.
A little further afield, within a days hike, there are some local landmarks, high points, old buildings and villages to see. Including an Adega that does visitor tours. The website 'Alltrails' shows a lot of local routes.
The area is well connected from Lisbon by train or driving or by the National Coach network, Rede Expressos.
Nearby Abrantes has an old town with a fort. Also the Tagus is not far.
The area is just before the more eastern area, where the landscape changes a little into higher more granite areas, with less dense population, into Castelo Branco.
It is a good spot for a stopover on a hike and a 'wildcamp' experience..
The price should be 5euros per person, per pitch. In other words, if you are only one person, then 5euros it is.
The maximum amount of visitors at one time would not be more than 4-6 persons, in the entire site. Which is 1000sq metres per person.
A few tons of overgrowth has been removed on one side of the woodland, opening up much more space.
This can give ample space hopefully to have a quiet space to yourselves but also some communal areas also.
Around the campsite, will be several wood seating areas dotted around, so you can sit in and enjoy the view or the woodland.
At the moment, there is no electricity but we will be setting a solar system up in the future. Until then, if needed I will be able to charge a phone for you with my van.
It is a good spot for a stopover for hikers or for hiking in the area and a chance to pitch up in some woodland or meadow, near a river, for some wildcamping.

I ( the landowner ) have lived and worked in Portugal for many years on some gardening contracts, as well as part time employment on organic/biological farms producing herbs vegetables for bio shops, markets and restaurants.
I also worked around France, Spain, Italy and Austria doing campsite repair work.
In between periods of time in Portugal, I also lived around most of Europe for a months at a time in many places, from North Norway to the Balkans, to Georgia.
Outside of doing this, I make some music as a hobby as well as occasionally an aspiring writer and journalist.
I always like to hike around a new area and still have places to visit.

The area within a few minutes walk has river rock pools and small waterfalls, alongside some historic ruined mills. Also, the area connects to a national 'GR' walking route.
If you want to go further, there is within a drive, some several view points and also the old town of Abrantes, the Tagus river with boat trips and the small town of Sardoal.
The local village has some small shops with supplies. It is around a 20 minute walk from the campsite. Five minutes in a car.

There is a local market every Sunday, where locally grown food is sold. It may be possible to buy something outside of the market day.
Aside from that, there are some wild plants that can be foraged.
Where as far as possible, we prefer to use non toxic products and not plastic, though sometimes a plastic pipe is needed.
To collect water, there is a channel created with old rooftiles, to fill our container.
There is a spring on the land but needs renovating before it is usable.
There are several springs within walking distance. We can supply some water with containers for drinking.
If you are not sure about drinking from springs, please bring your own water.
There will be rainwater for washing plates or if you want to heat water to wash. Though, be aware it is not an unlimited supply as of yet.
Guests who cancel at least 3 days before check-in date will receive a refund of the amount paid by them (excl. Campspace fees). Otherwise they will not be refunded.
The campsite is intended as a quiet place to relax, so not loud music playing day and night.
Please don't use any kind of chemical product, without checking first, to minimise impact on the land. Also, any personal cleaning product, make it a bio/organic one please.
Bring a torch, as lighting will be minimal at night and much of the site is sloping, with terraces, so need to watch where you walk at times and be and look out for your safety onsite. It is a wild, natural place of course.
No dogs/pets at the moment. As the site evolves more, it might be easier in the future.
Check in can be flexible also.
In some some spots, please stay on the paths, or not clamber some of the earth terraces, some of these are loose.
There is also an ecosystem that we want disrupt as little as possible.
There are dead branches in places but please don't break up or move without checking first. There is firewood and kindling onsite.
That said, you will be able to explore more or less everywhere and we are happy to show you around the area and talk about the land and show what is what there.
The check-in times are as a preferred general guide. We realise sometimes due to travel, it is not possible to make that window but just message when you are on the way.
