What a great place! I was all alone, with a view of the cooling towers of the Doel nuclear power plant. The silence at this campsite is overwhelming. The town of Doel is worth preserving, hopefully it will soon become habitable again. The church with accompanying cemetery is definitely worth a visit. Behind the marina is a wooden building, which is the clubhouse. There you can enjoy delicious food and/or a drink at the weekend. Very friendly owner/chef! Doel is really worth a visit.

How was the contact with the host?
Unfortunately I wasn't able to meet Kevin physically, because he was on the road himself, but over the phone it went fine. Kevin made sure that a neighbor let me in in Doel. During the weekend you can only enter with a Belgian ID.

Tips for new guests?
Be sure to visit Doel. Enjoy this beautiful place! I myself will definitely go to Doel again!

Very special place to stay, a really cool experience.

How was the contact with the host?
We got all the information we needed by phone.

Tips for new guests?
Bring earplugs if you are bothered by noise, you can hear the engines of the ships sailing by.

Hey Miranda, I'll include the earplug tip in my description of the place :). With an easterly wind the boats pass by, with a southerly wind the noise from the container terminal, with a northerly wind the waterfall sound of the cooling towers. It's quiet at Westenwind! Thank you for your visit! Unfortunately we did not meet. Better luck next time

Very charming residence… very quiet in a unique setting! Between nature and industry…

How was the contact with the host?
Friendly, helpful and social person! We didn't find the camping site immediately and quickly received a clear explanation over the phone… afterwards, at a spontaneous meeting in the village, some nice tips about the area!

Tips for new guests?
It's back to basics, but if you're prepared for that… a very relaxing place!
We are going back!

Wonderful experience!! A lovely place and a pleasant way to explore Doel. No luxury, but what do you come here to do if that's what you're looking for? There is water and basic electricity. We were looking for a unique experience in a quiet place and are more than 100% satisfied...

How was the contact with the host?
We didn't find the campsite immediately but Kevin came to help us immediately after a call. Nice to get tips from a resident.

Zonder twijfel de beste kampeerervaring die ik al gehad heb in België. De unieke ligging in het centrum van Doel en het uitzicht op de koeltorens maken van deze minicamping een absolute aanrader.

How was the contact with the host?

Tips for new guests?
Dit is zeker geen luxecamping, maar om Doel op een avontuurlijke manier te ontdekken kan je niet beter zitten.

Basic spot (toilet, that's all), but it doesn't have to be more if you go there with the right expectations. We thought it was great with a view of the cooling towers and with Doel and the Scheldt a few minutes' walk away. Highly recommended .. and you support the creation of the food forest.

How was the contact with the host?
Kevin was a super sympathetic host.

Tips for new guests?
Listen to Kevin's tips - we enjoyed the view of the harbor terminal on one side and Doel + the Scheldt on the other, of course ... in the setting sun.

The camping pitch has the same atmosphere as in the center of Doel, graffiti on the sanitary building. Unique location with a view of the cooling towers.

How was the contact with the host?
Kevin is very passionate about the future of Doel. Provides sufficient tourist tips.

The coolest experience ever had I think.

You don't go to this campground for luxury. You should only go here if you are looking for a bizarre experience in one of the most bizarre villages in Europe. The place itself is beautiful, surreal and therefore very special. You are in the middle of the village with a special view of the nuclear power plant.

How was the contact with the host?
Very well. Kevin was very clear, and gave very cool tips.

Tips for new guests?
Kevin has very good tips!

The place where nature and industry come together. Doel is a place where you have the sound and the view of the harbor on one side and the nuclear power plant in the backyard on the other. About 23 years ago, the intention was to expand the port towards Doel. This would make Doel unlivable and many inhabitants left. With the arrival of the nuclear power plant, even more inhabitants left, until only about 18 inhabitants remained! Doel has stood still in time ever since. Nature has been given free rein and has taken over the idyllic village. A true mecca for urbexers and fans of graffiti. On the former football field and tennis court, the extremely friendly host Kevin, together with his wife and some residents of Doel, have renamed the site into a camping site and a starting food forest. From their grounds you have an unobstructed view of the nuclear power plant aka Wolkenfabriek. The camping site is a particularly beautiful place with a fantastic contrast between industry and nature, where you can also clearly see how nature has managed to take over the place in recent years and has managed to survive. Simply beautiful! The former changing room now houses a toilet and washbasin and the camping site is supplied with electricity.

A place that you really have to see and experience with your own eyes!

Top location, super quiet, beautiful surroundings with a unique view. Be sure to take a walk in the village with its known difficult history. Basic facilities available (water, electricity, toilet), so you don't need more to disconnect from the 'civilized world'...

How was the contact with the host?
Kevin is very friendly and is immediately ready for help. He is easily accessible.

Tips for new guests?
Bring your BBQ, some games, some friends and enjoy a unique evening.

Been camping with a group of former leaders. Perfect for when you need little luxury. Toilet water and electricity available. Kevin also provides wood, Fire Bowl and Triple Picker. Ideal for bbq in peace. Beautiful location with a unique story.

Super

Tips for new guests?

Mini campsite in a unique location for campers who do not appreciate a shower with hot water, a clean toilet, a decent washing facility and do not care about litter lying around on the site. During our 10-day cycling trip through NL and BE, this was by far the most expensive and least comfortable campsite. All in all a special experience.

How was the contact with the host?
The reception by and contact with manager Kevin was most friendly.

Tips for new guests?
There is no sign to the campsite. You enter the site via an unpaved and muddy path on the east side of the former school on the Engelssteenstraat in Doel.

Unique place! You are standing on a large natural site with a view of the Port of Antwerp and the cooling towers of the nuclear power plant. Or you choose a field surrounded by tall poplars. Fire bowl present and you will be left alone after a nice conversation if you wish. Doel is an almost deserted village, largely bought up by the Port. But the residents are fighting to stay. Cycling through the Hedwigpolder with information point about the adjustments there. A special experience. Kevin, thank you for your hospitality and greetings from Ruigoord ;-)

How was the contact with the host?
Good, hospitable reception and a pleasant conversation. Then Kevin left us alone in complete freedom.

Tips for new guests?
Arrive before 6 p.m., then you will still enter Doel. The driveway to the camping area is the first dirt track after the former school. Keep driving and you will arrive at a large open field. You will find Kevin at the canteen or in his allotments.
