Jaco

Our estate has a natural mini campsite. With many spacious and private places to relax. There is a toilet block with ladies and gents toilets with two adjoining showers. An outdoor sink with five hot/cold water taps for washing dishes, etc
Lots of natural beauty around you and a wonderful rest. Possibility to take places with electricity (incl.) and there is WiFi throughout the site. Welcome (from € 17.50 pppn and € 5.00 for the 2nd person up to max. 4 pers.). Also a swimming pond and large cozy fire pit.
It is also possible to rent a studio. See our other advertisement for this.

You are very welcome at Farm de Vrije Geest in Toldijk in the rear corner. Our "estate" is located in the municipality of Bronckhorst in the outskirts of the quiet town of Toldijk, between the particularly atmospheric Hanseatic cities of Zutphen and Doesburg. Toldijk is a real rural municipality in the province, which is very richly endowed with natural beauty. The peaceful landscape around Toldijk is the so-called bocage landscape. It offers a magnificent variety of forests, meadows, fields and wooded banks, between which beautiful characteristic farms are hidden.

The farm is a wonderful base for cycling or walking routes or just relaxing in the silence of the Gelderland landscape. In the area you will find many farm shops with regional products or stalls along the road with fruit and vegetables that offer the season.

You can easily rent bicycles from us via bike total Zutphen with delivery and pick-up service or via NS station Zutphen.

If you want to make a fire, bring firelighters and kindling wood.

There is a wood oven at the campsite that can be used free of charge for ready-made pizzas or for homemade pizzas and other dishes. Great to do, fun and tasty!

We have two pole sockets for power! So not those blue plugs. Think of an adapter plug! Bring cozy outdoor lighting. We often get nice thanks for the smooth atmosphere here.

Be welcome!

We stayed 1 night with the camper. We were received very pleasantly and helpfully. We were allowed to find a spot ourselves and chose a spot with a beautiful view of the garden. Plumbing was neat and a lovely hot shower, no hassle of coins. We made some lovely walks in the area and walking through the garden between all the fruit trees and croaking frogs was.ook a party. In short, a successful weekend. thanks Jaco

We did not see Jaco during the entire stay. He didn't even have the decency to introduce himself. The campsite is indeed very messy. You can be renovating, but then you don't have to leave everything in plain sight all the time. Toilet building was not really clean. Washing trough for washing dishes hangs much too low, not really useful if you already have pain in your back. To top it off, a group of men came into the separate accommodation on Friday evening and made a huge noise with music outside until 4.30 am. They could have easily partyed inside. I think that you as the owner could have intervened. They had no regard for the other guests at all. It's a shame because it's a very nice place in itself, but I'd rather go elsewhere.

Hi Marieke,
I'm sorry you experienced it that way.
Sometimes my wife receives the guests usually I do it. But we are not going to knock on tents or walk into caravans because of the privecy. I'm not on the animation team either. With us you can enjoy the nature and space around you in peace.
Noise nuisance or the like Is not desirable with us. In addition, we are currently renovating the group accommodation to rent it out only for families from 2022.

The washing trough is deliberately lowered so that children can reach it. So nice of course!
The waste container has now been emptied. Few bothered about this. But not everyone is the same of course...

With a positive ending,
I salute you with 5 stars!

Beautifully situated site, which unfortunately is not or hardly maintained, and that was clearly visible. No water taps on the campsite, here and there an electricity connection after a good search (ordinary sockets, no standard camping connection).
The sanitary facilities are completely inadequate: 1 men's toilet and 1 women's toilet, 2 showers for all camping guests, including the guests of the group accommodation. 1 sink where the tap worked, the other sink had no water. No toilet paper available. Simply unacceptable for any campsite.
If you pay 29 euros per night (via Campspace), you know that you are being faked. Such a stay should not cost more than 15 euros/night, and then you must be aware of the defects in advance, so that you can make a conscious choice. Unfortunate!

How was the contact with the host?
Just waved and said that we can find a place where we wanted. After that we didn't see him again. We found it strange that the manager / owner / host did not show up at the campsite.

Tips for new guests?
Think carefully about whether you want to go here.

oh dear eric,
Sorry about your negative experience.
Although I must say that your review does not match the experiences that other positive holidaymakers have at our beautiful natural mini campsite.

Nor can I serve as your private animation team. There are other larger family campsites for that. From now on, please read carefully and look at the photos what I and other colleagues offer before booking. Campspace has very nice places to offer. We offer peace and a lot of natural nature. So no places with hedges and a number where you have to stand. We let the guests find out for themselves.

I had to close a sink Eric due to the Corona measures of other half meters.... Hence.

We are going to expand the sanitary facilities above the accommodation in the autumn. Every year the mini campsite becomes more fun and beautiful. We get a lot of pleasure out of that and enjoy it when our guests enjoy it. In that respect you really fall outside the boat with your mood because we experience camping guests as always cheerful and loving who are just relaxing and enjoying.

And about the stage. The cheapest way to camp is in your own garden. Also saves tourist tax.

Good luck and best wishes,
mrs, jaco

Small, rural campsite. Could be neater. Sometimes very close to the caravan.
We had a relaxing weekend.

One guest complained about the volume of our children (4 and 2 years old) in the playground. Which I think is pretty weird. But the children continued to play.

Very relaxed campsite. Really love that is it is so small. The main highlight for us was the small water pond. Some minor downsides is the lock + door handle on one of the showers is broken. It could also be a bit cleaner. As for tidiness, in the main field there was some residue of a broken wooden shed. A bit scary to let your little ones run around there with some pieces of wood also having some exposed nails.

How was the contact with the host?
Jaco is super relaxed host and easy to communicate with.

Tips for new guests?
Bring your own toilet paper : ) If you are sensitive to noise bring ear plugs. You will wake up to the sound of roosters (but I guess thats part of the fun :)

It was a bit of a scratch on arrival; NK cross and a large pool of water at the entrance.
But with a few steps further on to the campsite, we were already convinced to stay. The fields, the pond, the playground and camping spots were special. A nice setup. It was easy to make contact with other guests. The cross is then a nice topic of conversation. We got a little late here on Saturday. The next day we went for a long walk and got nothing more from it. Still perhaps worth mentioning. Gives a fairer start.
We swam wonderfully in the pond, the children at least. We enjoyed the atmosphere in the evening with fire pits everywhere in front of the tent. A nice mix of tents, caravans and motorhomes.
What was previously reported was the plumbing. A little too small and could be neater. Perhaps better after the renovation of the group accommodation with its own sanitary facilities.
The recycling center could also perhaps have a different place, there is enough space to set it up a bit hidden. Now also a large waste container as a view.
It might be nice to invite all guests for a pizza night for 1 evening. This can lead to beautiful contacts and a greater understanding of environmental sounds.
It could all have just a little more attention.

How was the contact with the host?
Friendly man. Think it's all beautiful and good and enjoy enjoying people. (Who not? ;))

Tips for new guests?
It is a nice place from there to make some nice trips in the area (with children): Hertenpad, maze, climbing forest and open-air museum Arnhem were toppers.
Maybe take a look at cross days and otherwise enjoy yourself outside the weekends.

The location is certainly as beautiful as in the pictures. Unfortunately, during our stay there was NK autocross on the open field next to the camping site, which caused unbearable noise nuisance. We really had a fantastic stay here! The pitches are spacious and separated by some greenery. The view is unobstructed and the natural pool is wonderful and soothing. The management is free, but if you need or want something, the management is there. The only 'downside' is the limited sanitary facilities: 2 toilets and 2 showers for the entire campsite. A mobile sanitary unit such as at festivals or at the neighboring campsite would make the stay even more pleasant. The environment is also fantastic. You can especially cycle endlessly, including along the IJssel, and visit picturesque villages such as Bronckhorst and Doesburg. Definitely a place to come back to.

The experience you can have depends on who else is there. We spent the first days in the noise of Jaco's group accommodation and the last days in the noise of partying young people at the neighbours' campsite. Overall the place was a bit disappointing. For example, the swimming pond was really a small pond in which you can stand, but not swim. There were also few toilets that had to be shared with the group accommodation.
Very nice was the pizza oven that you could use and the spacious places. The location is also beautiful.

How was the contact with the host?

Tips for new guests?
The swimming pool in Steenderen is nice and friendly.

There are spacious places on our campsite. And the pizza oven is really an experience!
The swimming pond is 8 m wide, 11 m long and 1.65 m deep. In me and many people's experience a real swimming pond that is enjoyed a lot. If there are already groups, we keep the peace. Therefore, no music may be played outside. Not even at the campsite. People are freer now that more is allowed.
Steenderen swimming pool is also highly recommended, as are the Hanseatic cities of Zutphen, Doesburg and Doetinchem.

You shouldn't have any trouble with partying young people, because you sometimes hear them at the neighbors at the weekend. Furthermore, on the campsite, there are very nice places where everyone can sit by the fire in the evening. You can also use the pizza oven. Swimming pond is nice to cool off in and really nice swimming is possible nearby, Zutphen has a very nice swimming lake. The shop of the neighbors is ideal, you can easily walk there for a nice ice cream, bottle of wine, meat, etc. And Zutphen is a very beautiful (Hanze) city to visit.

Tell us about your experience
A place with a lot of potential, but which we cannot recommend.

Pros: beautiful spots with high grass around it, nice walking paths, friendly atmosphere, number of fire pits available with wood, beautiful location.

Cons: Toilets are dirty. You share 2 showers and 2 toilets with the rest of the campsite, but also with any groups that rent the apartment. In our case, a group of students slamming doors and drinking. One of the two sinks was broken. The water in the shower turns hot-cold-hot-cold very quickly. When we arrived the hot water was broken, but this was resolved after an hour.

Biggest downside as far as we're concerned; the glamping camping spots at the neighbors. In our case there was a group of 20-25 people who played music, shouted, sing, etc. until 5:00 AM. We really didn't sleep a wink. This will probably not be typical for an overnight stay here, but the fact that the owner of our campsite doesn't say anything about it or that the neighbor lets this happen, says everything you need to know about this campsite.

A place with a lot of potential that is not being used.

How was the contact with the host?
We didn't see Jaco, but he was good at responding to emails and was there quickly when the hot water didn't work.

Tips for new guests?

I have discussed this with the neighbor in close consultation and he would keep an eye out for enthusiastic people staying overnight.
I keep the washroom clean every day. Now there were a few people who didn't handle this as neatly as usual.

Definitely recommended for atmosphere. I did not like the large groups that were present on the campsite and were a bit on the noisy side. But they ate a bit further from my camping spot so it didn't bother me too much. However, I found the neighboring campsite a bit less successful. During the day people were often busy with noisy maintenance during the day. Groups came to the neighboring campsite at the weekend and they continued to party until 2 am on the weekend.

There is also a group accommodation on the camping site where a group of noisy young people was staying at the time of our stay. Next to the campsite is also a kind of youth campsite where music was played until late at night. Unfortunately, not a place to camp peacefully. Beautiful place, not suitable for renting out to partying young people and as a quiet place.
The man himself, Jaco, takes absolutely no responsibility and is verbally strong not to be liable: “you should just call the police”. And if you are stuck in the ground with your car in a place designated by him: “then you just have to ask the farmer further down if he will help you and then you give him a tenner”. If you have a complaint about noise at night at 04:00: “I only hear the wind” and “you're the only one complaining” and “maybe you should think about yourself too”.

Dear Dick,
I'm sorry you experienced it that way.
When it was a very rainy period, and the ground was soggy here and there, you yourself moved to a soggy place with the camper. And that wasn't such a good idea. We had made a reservation for a tent and caravan site with electricity. On arrival we were allowed to pick a nice spot from Jaco. There were a lot of people, so there were not enough power spots, but that was quickly solved by a distribution block. There were many more people than you would normally expect with 2 toilets and 2 showers, but the sanitary facilities always looked neat and there were no queues. In the evening you could light your own fire. Our boys enjoyed the swimming pond. We could not find the WiFi, but that did not spoil the fun.

We were received very kindly, were able to choose a quiet spot for our tent and the sanitary facilities were clean. That evening we enjoyed sitting by our fire. There were a little more people than I expected, but that wasn't a nuisance.

On arrival it turned out that the sanitary building was under construction and we were not kindly approached by Jaco on several occasions. Unfortunately, this made us decide that we left the same day because we did not feel comfortable spending the night there. A shame because the place itself is very beautiful.

Had a great weekend with Jaco. Very nice and positive host.
The place was also very beautiful and above all very quiet and peaceful.
When the toilet block is completely ready, it will be a top spot!

Jaco is a very nice man with a great mini camping. All our wishes (such as a fire pit and some extra chairs) were fulfilled and the great man thought along with us. I think I would like to spend another night there in the future. There was a quite noisy peacock, but that was the only thing bothering us.

A very nice Campspace in a beautiful, quiet area. A swimming pond, campfire place, covered area with pizza oven and other cooking options, large garden, natural environment, a very hospitable owner: Jaco and a peacock. We had a very successful weekend!

We had a nice stay. Jaco is a very friendly host and helpful. Very relaxed type. You can do your own thing. It was now very quiet with other guests. We had a private shower and toilet. And we were also allowed to use the refrigerator. The swimming pond is very beautiful and I certainly made use of it. Ideal place for trips to the Veluwe or City

Contact with the host was short, he showed us our place and the sanitary. More contact than this was not necessary, so it was actually perfect. Jaco is a friendly man. In addition, you can enjoy the environment and life in a peaceful way.

The contact with the host was very pleasant and open. It was clear how the sanitary was arranged and that it was arranged well. There are several group stays on the site, each with their own sanitary facilities. Each camping guest was assigned one of these showers, so we had our own shower and toilet. The site was very open with not too much shade, but the location was very pleasant. One tip for future guests is to bring earplugs. A peacock walks around the grounds

Nice, quiet campsite. Beautiful places, excellent facilities. Beautiful swimming pond and garden. Owner is relaxed and flexible. Place to go back to.

Hella

It was incredibly restless at this campsite, large groups directly adjacent to the camping field, noise all night long. In addition, every morning loud noise from neighbours who were renovating the house. It was a beautiful place but a bad experience and we do not recommend anyone to camp here. The other camping guests also suffered a lot from this.

The contact with the host went smoothly. The location lived up to the expectations from the website! We spent one night at the mini camping with the family. Wonderful to enjoy peace and nature. It was nice to swim in the swimming pond and make a fire in the evening. We saw many beautiful animals (frogs in the pond, large dragonflies around the pond, swallows trying to eat the dragonflies, storks, an owl, a hare by the tent.) An outdoor shower by the pond to rinse off would be a nice luxury. And you have to be able to handle the sounds of the peacock who is sometimes asking for attention (this was no problem for us, we enjoyed how beautiful the peacock is)

We had a very good time at this campspace. It is a cosy, small-scale and natural campsite. Incredibly friendly and easy-going owners. There are various places on the campsite where you can sit in bad weather. There are also cooking facilities. Two toilets and showers are a bit small if the group accommodation is also filled. Furthermore, the campsite has few shady spots. It is, therefore, useful to bring an awning or umbrella. Very nice that you can rent a fire bowl for the tent. Recommended for hiking enthusiasts; the circular walk around the beautiful town of Bronckhorts. Beautiful route about 9km through the fields and over dikes.

The private pitch is a very beautiful and quiet camping pitch! We set up 2 tents and made a lot of use of the veranda…Some places could have been cleaned better…Furthermore there is a relaxed atmosphere and we had good contact with the host…All in all, had a nice weekend in a lovely spot!

Jaco was a kind and gracious host. The communication with him was swift and straight forward. The highlight for us was the small fresh water pond and that you could buy wood to easily make a camp fire at night. We had a wonderful time and will diffidently come back. Only tip for the host is to have an option to store food and drinks in a fridge OR perhaps have an ice machine. Would also be nice if you it was possible to buy drinks and ice cream.
