Camping by a fire in the food forest

About this campspace #s002282

Your host

Anke en Harro

In 2011, we started developing a nature reserve and later a food forest on our site of approximately 2 ha. The forest is now growing considerably and offers space for intimate places to stay or camp.

camping field
There is sufficient space for placing tents on the intimate camping field with facilities such as electricity, shower toilet, a fire pit and WiFi.
There is hot water in the part / sanitary room and you can use a refrigerator there if you wish.

off grid
Another option is off grid camping in the food forest. The latter is for the tougher campers, who have access to a more secluded spot, water and an outdoor toilet. Here too there is a fire pit at every spot. You cannot use the indoor sanitary facilities and washing-up area on the off-grid spots and you must take your waste with you when you leave!
Note: When you register, indicate whether you want to be on the camping field or off grid!

In addition, we offer two restored retro caravans on the camping field. A Chateau caravan from 1976 and a Knaus caravan from 1977. So more than forty years old and now in a condition like never before. You can spend the night here cheaply and with great fun.

You enter our site via the Achterweg that runs parallel to the Zuideind and is therefore not at the Zuideind itself!
The entrance is where you see a sign with a white bird. Give us a call when you're there and we'll come pick you up and show you the way.

The location is at the foot of the Hondsrug in Drenthe and is an ideal starting point for a large number of nice trips, beautiful walks or bike rides. Guests are allowed to use the entire site and if they like make a fire in the evening on the fire pit (bring your own wood).
Note: We have separate places for vans and caravans; Please specify the correct location when registering.
Bicycles can be used, if present, for € 5 per day.

Our site offers you an ideal opportunity to relax.

We have been living in Drouwenerveen Drenthe since 2011. There we have a rural house on a large piece of land of about 2 ha, which we have been developing into a food forest over the years.
We enjoy being active in nature and this beautiful place and we enjoy sharing it with our guests.
In addition to an indoor B&B, we rent out two retro caravans and several camping spots on the camping field in the middle of this area. In addition, we also have some special "off grid" places for campers who like to be a bit remote and who prefer simple camping.

Nice quiet place to relax for a while. Except for Jan who showed us the terrain, no one was present. Enjoyed a fire and enjoyed the delicious ripe raspberries and grapes with the little ones. 'Secretly' also wanted some super beautiful chestnuts in the front yard, thanks for sharing your nice place :). We'll be back for sure.

It was great, Anke and Harro are very welcoming and have a nice garden/forest where we stayed in the off-the-grid space. They gave us a jerry of water and an outdoor shower, which we didn't end up using. We cooked on the fire and sat around it at night and cycled around between the other towns during the day. The grass in our patch was nice and soft.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Our camping spot was quiet and we liked that location. Fortunately, the weather was nice and we were also able to make a fire and cook, which we love a lot.
Only downside we found the outside toilet. We found the plank placed in front of the hole not practical and unhygienic. In our opinion, a shovel to cover your needs is just fine and you don't need to see anything from your predecessor!

How was the contact with the host?
Harro responded quickly and was very friendly and helpful.

Super!
The campsite is as seen in photos from the campspace site. Spacious campsite, with many bushes and shrubs for a natural effect. You do not imagine yourself on a camping site, but in a beautiful garden with a pond, wildlife and various trees with fruits and nuts.
It is a great place to relax!

What a nice spot! Wonderfully quiet and lots of beautiful nature, really a place where you can relax. Good to know that there is no dumping ground for a chemical toilet at the campsite. Fortunately we were able to do this a few minutes away at another campsite! Glad we could rent bikes to explore the area. The saddles were a bit hard so after a day of cycling it would have been nice again.

How was the contact with the host?
Our camper turned out to be a bit too heavy and too big, but luckily it was thought to come to a solution together. Very nice!

Immediately upon arrival impressed by the beautiful grounds. We went camping off-grid with Harro and Anke and had a nice place where you can sit very privately because of the well-maintained plants and trees. A lot of attention is paid to the country and it shows.

Unfortunately, we had very bad weather, so our solar showers, for example, did not become a degree warmer (normally they warm up due to the sun), this was a shame, but on the other hand, a cold shower is not a disaster either.

For us, the best part of this campsite was the fact that you can make your own campfire, which is highly recommended. Make sure you order enough wood from Harro or bring it yourself.

All in all, definitely recommended!

How was the contact with the host?
Nice. Friendly and always up for a nice chat.

Tips for new guests?
Stock enough wood if you want to start a fire (2 bags per campfire).

The campsite is very nicely set up, spacious pitches, nature can take its own course and it is an oasis of peace. You hear all kinds of bird sounds all day long. You are very welcomed by Harro and Anke and the concept of the food forest is very interesting. We were on the field with our VW campervan where you have access to a shower, 2 toilets and a washing-up area. It is small-scale but sufficient as they do not want the campsite to be too full. We were allowed to put a fire pit at our place and you can grab a bag of wood for 5 euros, so you can light a fire at your place. We will definitely come back again.

We experienced camping at Harro’s as a fun adventure. Is it just using the hudo (#doyouneedaholeintheground). Harro has created a beautiful place in his food forest. We were welcomed and shown around; nice to see how enthusiastically he talked about the area. There may also have been a deer roaming around. Unfortunately, we did not see it, but that should not spoil the fun because you are surrounded by greenery on all sides. And what could be better than waking up in the morning from an orchestra of birds. You call this enjoyment in its purest form. Do you still have doubts? Take it from me, you won't regret it.

I had a great time at Harro's. A nice and pleasant host and hostess. Great caravan I stayed in and because of Corona private toilet and good shower room that was kept clean by myself. The garden in which the caravan was located was beautiful. Very quiet area and a small village in the immediate vicinity with a local supermarket, a bakery and a butcher. So fully equipped. The immediate area is beautiful for cycling and viewing the dolmen is definitely worth it. You can stay at the campsite with a dog if he is on a leash

We decided to have a short three day holiday at Harro s Campspace. Hosts Harro and Anke are very friendly and welcoming. ??The garden is wonderful, spacious and beautifully arranged. The Forest Garden is slowly growing with new vegetation. ??In the evening and in the early morning you are greeted by a variety of bird songs. And we were lucky enough to be greeted by a nice cat taking a stroll. For walking enthusiasts, we recommend visiting Het Boomkroonpad (different walking distances) and Drouwenerzand. Our stay was wonderful, quiet and relaxed. Just what we needed.

I had a great time at Harro’s. You can stay at the campsite with a dog if he is on a leash.

As soon as you leave the main road on the way to this Campspace, you are surrounded by fields and trees. The Campspace is located in a small, quiet town surrounded by beautiful nature like the Drouwenerzand (5 km away) and large areas with forest and heather. Harro came outside as soon as we arrived and gave us a warm welcome. He showed us his beautiful garden and told us about the plants growing there and the insects living there. The garden is very big and therefore you have plenty of private camp spots to choose from. You can camp on the main field, in the orchard or near one of the patches with wild flowers. There is a separate bathroom, toilet and dishwashing place and it’s all very clean and tidy. For nice summer evenings there is a campfire spot and there’s fruits in the garden. Harro is very kind and he knows where to find the best attractions in the area. This is a great spot if you want to explore this part of Drenthe, and/or if you are just looking for a place to slow down and enjoy being surrounded by nature.

I found the location, host, and atmosphere fantastic. I plan to come back again, while I usually never do this, in the same place. I highly recommend staying with Harro. We had such a nice stay here! Harro and Anke are warm people who will do anything to make your stay as best as possible for you. We felt very welcome and enjoyed both a night in our own tent and our stay in their cosy, retro caravan. Waking up grumpy is simply impossible between those retro, colourful curtains! It was very special to us to see how these hosts truly share what they have: we could set up our tent anywhere we wanted, borrow bikes, harvest from their garden… but they also respectfully left us alone so we could enjoy time together, the peace and quietness of the site and the beautiful(!) surroundings. The harmonious, small-scale character of this spot is truly unique – go experience it for yourself!

We were allowed to put up our tent wherever we wanted. Wonderful to wake up in the morning with those wonderful nature sounds around you. Especially the various species of birds. Highly recommended, we will visit again.

If you are looking for the cutest place to stay in Drenthe; you found it! This caravan is just amazing. It’s situated in Harro’s amazing garden, a perfect place to slow down and enjoy being surrounded by nature. Inside, it has a cosy sitting area, a comfy bed and a tiny (but completely equipped) kitchen. The caravan is far from new, but in excellent and clean state. There is a table with benches for outdoors diner and you can go for a nice walk in the large garden full of fruit trees, wild flowers and insects. The bathroom and toilet are in the shed, also in perfect condition. Your host can tell you about all the nice things to explore in this area; Drouwenerzand, large forests and heather fields, the ‘boomkroonpath’ (a path through the tops of the trees),etc. It’s a perfect place to start hikes, bike rides and road trips, followed by a quiet evening in the garden

What a beautiful quiet place in Drouernerveen deep in Drenthe. Harro received us kindly and immediately showed us the spacious garden and facilities. The green garden, surrounded by tall trees, is sun-drenched and has many intimate areas in the shade for romantic and peaceful enjoyment of the surroundings. Harro said we could pitch our tent anywhere we wanted. We could use the refrigerator and the sanitary facilities and we could also separate the waste there. What a nice place. We will definitely come back here!

What a beautiful place! We received a very friendly welcome and we had a nice, spacious place for our campervan. Quite private through a recess in the food forest/garden. There was wood to build a fire. Only downside was the compost toilet, where a lot of flies came from. Nevertheless, we would have liked to have stayed an extra night.

Last week I stayed a night at Harro's Campspace. I had an off-grid spot all to myself (because of Corona the compost toilets cannot be shared, so there was only room for two off-gridders). So nice and quiet! Harro was extremely friendly, showed me my spot and just left me alone, although he said that I could always come if I had any questions. Did not see him again until the next morning when waving goodbye. So top, exactly what you want! The terrain is beautiful and playfully arranged with different heights of grass, all kinds of trees and bushes. Not an even football field, very nice! After a day of bike packing, you can easily spend a night here. In the evening there is also plenty of opportunities to walk in the beautiful surroundings, and in the morning (very) early you will be treated to a musical concert by the thousands of birds in the nearby forest. Behind the campsite (and therefore fairly close to my spot), there is a road. It's a back road where maybe one car drives by every half hour. I did not experience this as disturbing, even at night. Really recommended!

We loved that we were able to stay at De Witte Buizerd, when most other campsites were closed. We enjoy nature, space and campfires and that is what we got. The two hosts are friendly, welcoming and interested. They are growing a beautifully laid out garden/food forest where we pitched our tent. The surrounding area is perfect for cycling (touring and MTB). The site is save for kids. A sand-, mud pit or swing would help keep them entertained.

The contact with the landlord was fine, man is friendly and explained everything neatly.
The "off grid" was a bit wide and was therefore a bit disappointing.
The place was quite open and you still saw and heard other people.
The fact that your car is next to your tent gives a kind of trunk camping.
There was also a lot of noise at the back in the evening from people driving back and forth on a loud moped and occasionally heavy music.
For this reason you don't really have an off grid camping feeling.
It was also the first time camping for me and so can't compare with other places or habits.
I do want to go camping through campspace more often when I hear the stories of others

Great location! Harro is a very friendly guy and had everything nicely organized. The mini camping is great, offers a lot of privacy and has a nice overall atmosphere. The sanitary was clean and well taken care of. We wanted to watch the stars at night, but noticed that the light in the bathroom cabin was switched on all night and was very bright. This probably made it more difficult to watch the stars. The overall experience though, was a very nice one. We would definitely come back here again! Maybe even go for an "off-grid" camping spot next time.
