Into the wilderness - camping on unfenced land in the middle of a nature reserve
About this campspace #s004351
Are you up for a rugged camping experience? Then this is for you!
Located on a privately owned 2ha forest in the middle of a nature reserve. Accessible only on foot as you must leave the car A few hundred meters away. Remember it is unfenced so wild deer may come knocking.
Many walking trails are accessible right on the doorstep, ranging from short strolls in the surrounding forest to a 70km long distance trail. The surrounding hills are also a favourite for mountainbikers.
If you want to mix in a bit of adventure there is a watersport centre only 10 minute drive away.
When you have a chance to stay in the area a little longer, you might also want to do cultural activities. Perhaps visit the small cosy city of Maaseik (15min) with beautiful old buildings and a rich history. There you find the oldest pharmacy in the country and lots of restaurants to spoil yourself a little. Please don’t hesitate to ask for tips. Guided tours are possible when pre-booked.
Also a short distance away you can hike or go cycling next to the river ‘Maas’ where you might spot wild horses or cattle that roam freely there. At ‘De Wissen’ you can book a ‘whisper boat’ tour. It is an electric small boat in which you can silently move over the water and enjoy the beautiful sounds of nature and spot plenty of birds.
But if you just want to stay in your camping spot of peace-fullness with a good book, that is also a fantastic option!
If you’re on a long distance trail and arrive on foot, you will probably need drinking water. This I can provide you, just send me a message in advance. There are no facilities at the Campspace. Please don’t leave toilet paper in or on the ground and take it with in a rubbish bag.
I love dogs, but I love the wild deer being comfortable on the land even more. So well behaved dogs are welcome but cannot roam free. They must be on a leash also on the campspace. For instance a long rope on a tree. Barking dogs running loose are not acceptable inside a nature reserve, this to ensure the safety of wild mammals and birds.
Please note that the area is unfenced, there are no official walking paths on the property and people aren’t allowed off the path, but just keep in mind that not everyone follows the rules so don’t leave valuables behind.
For longer stays : Grocery shops and restaurants are 10 min drive away, but also possible to reach on foot or bike.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
See you soon!

Meet Cara, your host
This place is just what we were looking for and we were thrilled to find someone like Cara willing to share her piece of haven with us. We had a whole bush for ourselves, and spent the evening and the night surrounded by trees. The place is also filled with private walking trails. Cara was super friendly and came by to give us some tips. There is a trash bin and fresh water bottle near the gate of the next door property. Even though it is close to a motorway we could still sleep peacefully hearing the sounds of birds and trees.
I give a 5 stars because the place is very nice (but people have to be aware that there is no toilet etc.)
Contact with the manager was very smooth and pleasant.
The description was complete and correct.
For campers who camp very basic and like to be somewhere without a single person around, can really stay here.
I would like to do it again in the winter period (in the summer I am clearly too attracted to mosquitoes)

Please respect the fact that it is a nature reserve. Don’t litter, keep dogs on a leash, do not remove trees, plants or flowers, don’t play music. Unfortunately, due to the rugged forest terrain, there is no option for a fire pit as it would be too dangerous.
And most importantly, enjoy! :-)
