In September 1994, Schwemsal celebrated the 600th anniversary of its first mention. The motto was "Schwemsel is coming," and the residents can claim this with good reason. The town's history has been up and down. The town was completely destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. This also destroyed the alum works, which had been located in the Schwerz district since 1560 and was the oldest industrial works in the Bitterfeld district. It was rebuilt after the Thirty Years' War and had its heyday around 1800. You can find out more about it in the landscape museum in Bad Düben Castle.
The Bergschiffmühle mill can also be seen there. Until 1954, it was originally located in Schwemsal on the Mulde. Schwemsal is located at the junction of federal highways 107 and 183 and forms the center of the circle that touches the cities of Leipzig, Wittenberg, Dessau and Halle.
