Exclusive back-to-basics wild camping close to a small river and large fields, this spot offers close to wild camping in a private space in the Scottish Borders.
Slightly rough grass pitches, This is back-to-basics. Do not expect facilities - there are no electrical hook ups, no showers, no hot water. Fire pits and tables usually available depending on numbers.
A separate space offers field spaces for a small amount of motorhomes. This does not come with hook ups. On motorhome arrival we need to assist you with the gates and show you to the site, and is dependent on ground conditions, but is a truly tranquil and picturesque spot next to the river.
Horse box houses a small portaloo toilet. No hot water facilities. Cold water tap available.
Fire pits are usually available for small fires, but no campfires on the ground. Bags of logs available at extra charge, though you are welcome to forage for driftwood - please do not cut from the living trees.
Cyclists and walkers will love the close proximity to forest tracks and single lane roads. Secure bike storage available. Bonchester Hill, Ruberslaw Hill, Fatlips Castle are some great nearby hill walks. Miles of forestry tracks, Hell's Hole is a good starting point to see your exploration choices on a map.
The river is a stroll across the field and on a sunny day offers hours of fun. Areas of stone pebbles and sandy banks, pools to swim in or splash at the shoreline. We have spare towels if you get soaked!
Rural locality gives this site some amazing starry skies and glimpses of wildlife such as red squirrels, deer, pheasant, fox, badger, bird of prey, newt, heron, frog, duck. On the farm we have two ponies a gypsy cob and a miniature shetland, ducks, two dogs and sheep. We ask that you do not feed the ponies no matter how much they ask, they are super-friendly and like attention.
Your car is left in the farm courtyard and the camp pitches are a small walk away, wheelbarrows should be available to get your items to your pitch.
The village of Bonchester Bridge is about a half hour walk, which has a lovely pub The Horse and Hound but please check with them first to make sure they are serving food and their opening hours. The Cross Keys in Denholm is 15 minutes by car and a great place to eat and socialise. A twenty minute drive takes you to Hawick for supplies.
Nearby attractions include Born in the Borders, Rulewater Alpacas, Melrose Abbey, Wilton Lodge Park and Museum, the Borders Distillery.

All gates to be kept closed. Very important with the livestock.
Pets must be supervised due to livestock and up to date with treatments for fleas, ticks etc. Dogs must be kept on a lead and pick up their mess as amongst other reasons, this does not agree with sheeps stomachs. There are chances for them to stretch their legs in the forest walks.
Fire-pits are available for campfires, and disposable bbqs welcome. Logs will be available at a small charge. Do not strip the young woodland or living trees of branches. Dont light in windy conditions. no naked flames, candles or fire lanterns.
Please be respectful of the quietness of the area, no loud music, shouting, this means quiet children and dogs too!
Take rubbish away with you, leave the site as you find it.
Children must be supervised at all times. This site offers a delightful world for children to play in, but not run wild.
