About this campspace

We are happy to share our spacious garden with a special annex with you!

Within walking distance of the forests of the Brabantse Wal and the center of Bergen op Zoom, a 15-minute bike ride away. Ideal for combining peace and Brabant cosiness. Sports enthusiasts don't have to be bored either. The LAW Grenslandpad and the LF Ronde van Nederland pass our house and in the immediate vicinity there are various MTB routes, riding stables, a climbing forest and a swimming lake.

It is also good to keep up in our garden. A symphony of bird sounds and rustling leaves, interspersed with a sniff from our curious dog. To lose energy there is a trampoline and a jeu de boules court. The sauna can be used by appointment and against payment. There is a fireplace and fire pit (bring your own wood).

In short: a fantastic place where guests are more than welcome!

My name is Wendy, 41 years old and working at Staatsbosbeheer. I live with my friend Erik (45), stepdaughter Evelien (13) and dog Sia (3) in the outskirts of Bergen op Zoom. In addition to odd jobs and gardening, we do a lot of sports and we regularly go out with our old camper.

Tips

  • Enjoy the rich history of Bergen op Zoom, visit the beautiful city center with, among other things, the Markiezenhof, the Gevangenpoort and the Peperbus.

  • Experience the slope of the Brabantse Wal, walk across the world-famous Mozesbrug or visit one of the country estates.

  • Shop designer brands with a high discount in Designer Outlet Roosendaal.

  • Bosrijk enjoy a drink (with a snack) at De Berk, Bozlust or Het Appeltje.

  • Be surprised by the exuberant coziness of the many catering establishments in the Bergse city center or on the Boulevard.

What a nice place to stay. A very cozy house with almost everything you need. The sauna that we had booked is a really nice extra! The fireplace is wonderful for the cold days / evenings. The beds are also good. As you can read in other reviews, you do lie close to the roof, so your freedom of movement is somewhat more limited. We were not bothered by it.

There is plenty to do in the vicinity. For us the ideal combination of city and nature.

How was the contact with the host?
Wendy and her husband are very nice and interested but also let you do your own thing.

We had so much fun at our first campspace! Nice contact with host Wendy in advance via the app and in real life too. Wendy and Erik are hospitable, helpful and sociable hosts. We felt completely welcome and you don't have to worry about dog Sia.

The location is beautiful. An enviably large garden with sun and shade and conveniently located for us as a base for three stages of the GR5, from Herkingen in Zeeland to Kalmthout just across the border in Belgium.

The cottage is clean, cozy and fully equipped. Nice shower, kitchen with hob, fridge and all kinds of kitchen utensils, TV with Netflix, spacious terrace with comfortable chairs, that's all we needed after a long day of walking. We had booked the sauna in advance but did not use it because it was already a sauna outside with 32 degrees 😆

Sleeping in the sleeping loft is very cozy. Fine mattresses in any case, but with a length of 2 meters, stiff walking calves and extremely hot weather, it is a small challenge. That is why it was extra nice that all windows and the entire front of the house could open! So it was blowing nicely at night.

How was the contact with the host?
Excellent

Tips for new guests?
Centrally located for some GR5 stages. Walking at Fort de Roovere near Halsteren, walking on the Kalmthoutse heath, terraces on the Grote Markt in Bergen op Zoom, with a book and a rosé in a lazy chair in the shade and feet in the grass...

In one word: AMAZING! What a wonderful, peaceful and beautiful place this is. Really free between farmland and arable farming, so local farmers work. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace, the place, sunrise and sunset. Plenty of room for entertainment such as a game of tennis or Frisbee and the annex has all the facilities you need. I can recommend this to anyone who likes peace and space.

How was the contact with the host?
The contact was smooth, responds quickly to messages and very friendly. Wendy herself was on holiday with her family and we were taken care of by her in-laws. Very nice and nice people. On departure we had a nice chat with them.

Tips for new guests?
If you don't like farm life or find it disturbing that the local farmers are busy with their tractors early in the morning, find another place.
If, like us, you really don't find that a problem, then definitely go and experience it for yourself.

We were there much too early, but luckily we were already able to enter the house that was waiting for us in the gigantic garden of Wendy and her family. My daughter saw the trampoline in the corner of her eye and has not gotten rid of it. So also for children this is an excellent place to stay.
The cottage had only just opened when we were there and was not completely finished to perfection, but it will be all right. It was now a great place to stay and was fully equipped and there is still a lot on the schedule.
There is a sauna which you can use for a small amount, the wood stove can also be used for a small fee.

If you want to do something else than jumping on the trampoline or sitting in the garden, you can walk along the adjacent meadows or national forest De Zurenhoek.

We loved waking up to the sound of the farmers working early in the fields and the birds in the garden.
The garden is truly a paradise for birds and insects. There are numerous trees, hedges and shrubs. A hill has been created in the middle of the lawn for some extra privacy between the private house and the camping spots. The hill is full of grasses and wildflowers. Along the hedge at the jeu de boule track there is also a kind of picking garden with a huge amount of flowers.

All in all it was a wonderful stay and I am very curious what it will look like in a year.

How was the contact with the host?
Although we arrived much too early, we could just use the cottage. Wendy came to visit us in the afternoon and meet us. She is easily reachable by phone if there is anything.

Tips for new guests?
Bring your bike or good walking shoes. With the Zurenhoek forest and the beautiful meadows, nature really asks you to cycle or walk there. Do your shopping in advance, the nearest shopping center is a 10-minute drive away.

Erik and Wendy welcomed us very warmly. They were so well organised, hospitable and flexible to our needs, even though we were the very first guests. Both the garden and the annex are well maintained so that we could enjoy the peaceful surroundings. TOP!

How was the contact with the host?
Very good! They were helpful and present if needed and also left us to enjoy the peace on our own.

Tips for new guests?
The arboretum of Kalmthout and the Kalmthoutse Heide are located 40 minutes by bike from the residence. Worth the effort!

Very nice place to camp. Lovely garden and very nice that the country house is there, so that the refrigerator, toilet and shower are nearby. There are fun things to do in the area, so also recommended with children. The trampoline is of course also great for kids.

How was the contact with the host?
Wendy and her husband are very friendly and helpful, and the contact went very smoothly.

Tips for new guests?
Kop van hethoofd, the climbing forest and the city center of Bergen op Zoom are all great outings. And just walking along the meadows is also great fun!

Pleasant stay in a very beautiful, large garden with annexe where all the necessities for a successful camping experience: clean toilet, hot shower, cutlery, plates, fridge with small freezer. And a TV with internet connection.

How was the contact with the host?
Very fast and friendly.

Tips for new guests?
I have not tried the sauna, but you can use it for only 10 euros.
You have to share the annex with any other guests, but that's just nice... Nice encounters, always possible.

Cute little gnome house, with a nice sauna and equipped with all necessities. In the (large) garden of the host and hostess. No central heating so it was quite chilly in September! But connecting a wood-burning stove is on the agenda. Nice, quiet place.

How was the contact with the host?
Friendly welcome, friendly dog, tips for nice restaurants in the area, we have not seen them (which was fine).

Tips for new guests?
The bedroom is in the loft, no headroom and accessible with a ladder. The bed is then largely under a low roof. We thought it was fine but it's not really average 😄

September 2022 · Translated from dutch

Host Wendy has responded

Glad you had a good time! I can imagine that it has been a bit chilly, unfortunately the weather was not good this weekend. If all goes well, the fireplace will be connected next week, which will make it just a bit more comfortable. Thank you for your visit.
