Because we ourselves love nature incredibly and are often active in our garden, the idea arose to make our meadow available to campers. We are very rurally located in beautiful Wachtebeke, on the border of the Netherlands. That makes our place perfect to enjoy the beautiful nature.

You can stay here with your own tent, camper van or caravan, or you can leave everything at home and stay in our Defender with roof tent, glamping tent or retro caravan! There is a lot of space in our meadow, with high grass as a demarcation. We like to keep it small-scale so that everyone has their own peace and privacy.

There is a sanitary block in our garden where you can take a hot shower in the open air for the ideal outdoor experience. There is a centrally located campfire area, electricity.

Do you want breakfast in bed? Croissant, sandwich, coffee, tea and juice? Which can!

For entertainment you can also rent a canoe here. In the area you can discover beautiful nature. Many walking and cycling routes cross our village. In the Heidebos or monastery forest, people and animals can fully enjoy themselves and there is always plenty to do in the recreational domain of Puyenbroeck. Kayaking is also possible!

Everything is still in its infancy, but you don't need much to enjoy nature. Campers have everything with them and do not need much outside a blissful place,

Perfect for...

People who want to come and enjoy nature

Nicely furnished location with a very beautifully built sanitary building including compost toilet. That toilet was a bottleneck for the large number of campers because it was quickly full. Furthermore, it was quite busy, which makes it more like a camping site. The outdoor shower is fantastic and it's all so beautifully made.

How was the contact with the host?
The hosts were very accessible and we were able to exchange experiences because we are both hosts at Campspace. They work really hard to guide all the campers, it showed.

Tips for new guests?
A motorway is fairly close at a few hundred meters, which we had absolutely no problems with sleeping, but keep this in mind. Earplugs are available from the host.

We completely relaxed there. Very quiet and cozy.

How was the contact with the host?

There was only a small misunderstanding about the hour of breakfast, but it was made up for by the delicious rolls ☺️

Tips for new guests?
The noise from the highway can be disturbing at night.
Pots and pans are provided for the stove. Also plastic cups and plates and cutlery.
It is best to bring salt and pepper for breakfast (egg) and oil or butter.
Dishwashing liquid was provided but no sponge or kitchen towel. So best provided.

A great mini paradise not far from home.
We stayed there for 10 days with our tent and 3 young kids. We really enjoyed our 10 days there. You can choose your own pitch, you will not be bothered by other campers. The plumbing and especially the outdoor shower is great.
You quickly get used to the noise of the highway and you don't notice it. We missed some rinsing opportunity but our kids were inventive enough. Investing in extra shade places is a must, luckily we were able to move to the only shade place.

How was the contact with the host?
The owners were traveling but the replacement was just great. We always received text and explanation, an extra chat.

Tips for new guests?
A very quiet and no-nonsense camping site that adorns in simplicity. We could be ourselves completely.

How was the contact with the host?
The owner herself was on vacation, but her brother took over temporarily. He came daily to chat, greeted you regularly. Appeared very hospitable, also had a lot to tell and was interested in you. Visibly enjoyed his role and if you had something, he helped immediately. Big plus!

The warm greetings from Groningen may be given to him from Elke and Jeroen!

We did not feel very comfortable during our stay. The host reassured us the camping grounds were very peaceful, but at the same time was having a private party at the camping grounds while playing loud music. Upon our request to turn the music down we had to point out his own camping regulations of silence after 10PM, of which he seemed to be unaware. He did turn the music down, but it made us very uncomfortable having to have this conversation.

The camping grounds are located off a highway, so peaceful would not be how we'd describe the place to begin with.

Compost toilets are a great idea, but were at times very smelly. Toilet paper was not provided, which was not pointed out before our stay and seems a little (if not a lot) stingy.

The place we were asked to put our tent had very uneven ground, hence was not comfortable for sleeping. There was dog poop in the grass next to our tent.

Overal, we felt very uncomfortable and ill at ease.

How was the contact with the host?
We did not feel comfortable around the host. Our requests to turn off the music and clean up the dog poop were met, but the host seemed to find these requests very amusing and made us feel unreasonable.

Tips for new guests?
Bring toilet paper and ear plugs. Not great for camping with a tent because of the uneven ground.

July 2022

Host Suzie has responded

Sorry to read. However, we try to please everyone. We will indeed let you know in advance that everyone brings their toilet paper. We are experienced campers and in many places, including abroad, where we stay. So we didn't think much about it. Our apologies.
The dog food is a pity. We ask people to leave everything behind. As for the noise at night, I can only offer my sincere apologies. This is the first bad review and it hurts a bit, but we'll learn from it.

A super nice place to stay, and the defender was fantastic to sleep in! The sanitary block was very nicely done, and the outdoor showers were a unique experience. The only downside is that the location is near a highway: if the wind is wrong, you can hear this noise quite well..

How was the contact with the host?
Very nice and friendly people! It was a pleasant welcome and they did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They lent BBQ equipment, brought tea (instead of coffee) after they knew I was not a coffee drinker, etc.

Tips for new guests?
- Be sure to go for a bike ride in the area! It's beautiful!
- The defender is well equipped, and kitchen equipment is also provided with everything except barbecue tongs: so be sure to bring these with you when you go BBQ.

Top spot! We were 8 families on a camping weekend and had a wonderful time. There is a lot of space on the meadow so that we could stand together. The sanitary block was cleverly made: 2 natural toilets, 2 outdoor showers with good running hot water and a place where you could wash dishes. We could use a fire bowl. The children could roam freely and safely.

How was the contact with the host?
Very good. Both in advance and on site they were very approachable and friendly.

Rather tip for Suzy and husband : if groups are expected, inform other prospective visitors in advance. Not necessarily a nuisance, but then you can decide for yourself whether or not you want to take the risk of some more noise 'at the neighbors' ... But don't let this deter anyone from booking a night there.

Dear Gert,
Thank you for the nice review. We will certainly take your tip into account, we had already thought about it ourselves, since I was very bored with it, but sometimes things happen that you can't change at the moment despite the good agreements we had made.
Hopefully we'll see you again! Greetings Suzie

What a nice, quiet, cozy place to camp! We rented a Defender with a roof tent to spend the night because we are away for 2.5 weeks with our family of 4 this summer with a roof tent. So we were able to test this once between the two of us.

How was the contact with the host?
Suzie and Fre gave us a wonderful time in their Oasis of Peace! I had a huge allergy attack on my eyes and Suzie literally came to my rescue with eye drops. Thanks again for that!

Tips for new guests?
Bring a roll of toilet paper to use in their super chic sanitary block. It was lovely to shower outside with warm water.

What a wonderful experience, beautiful location and fantastic sweet owners!
Neat places to stand with electricity supply.
And the sanitary facilities are beautiful with a delightful outdoor shower.
There is a lot of beautiful nature to discover in the area if you like walking or cycling.
You can also kayak nearby.
Breakfast that you can order extra at the campspace is good.
We had a pull-out tent but the Safari tent and jeeps looked fantastic, equipped with everything you need if you want to carry a little less.

How was the contact with the host?
Friendly, prompt, helpful….
perfect :)

Tips for new guests?
You can use a bbq, it is best to ask in advance.
Large place for campfire available.
The places for a tent are very spacious, but right in the sun so in very hot weather it might be best to provide something of a fence,

We stayed 2 nights in the glamping tent and enjoyed it. From the outdoor shower in the morning to the campfire in the evening, everything was in tip-top shape. We would like to come back later to see the evolution of this campsite because there are still many plans 😉.

How was the contact with the host?
Very good! We were well received and during the stay they came a few times to check whether everything was to your liking. Even though they were only at half power, we didn't notice anything ;).

Tips for new guests?
It is best to bring your own bed linen. But if you forgot, they are happy to help you :).

We found it super cozy and friendly at this campsite with great contact with the other guests, including around the campfire and certainly also with Suzie, her husband and children. Some things may still be in their infancy, but price-quality is already perfectly fine. You don't have to be here (yet) for luxurious camping, you pay double for that elsewhere. You do hear the traffic from the highway but this won't stop us from booking again in the future.

It's exciting to book at people's homes.
However, that turned out to be unnecessary. When booking it was indicated that there was an event for make a wish with the Overlander Community, but that there was still a place for our camper. Now that place did not disappoint! We received VIP treatment both in terms of location and hospitality. Wachtebeke/Overslag is an excellent starting point to explore the border region and even the Western Scheldt by bike. Our first Campspace experience leaves you wanting more.
Thank you very much for welcoming us so warmly.

greetings from Geert & Hilde

We are already making our pasture available, but do we realize that it is still "bamping" at the moment? Since we travel with the mobile home ourselves, we know that we can easily make our site available to them. We are working hard to improve our infrastructure!
