Your host

Suzie

Our house is in a very rural location in beautiful Wachtebeke, next to the border with the Netherlands. Many walking and cycling routes cross our village. In the Heidebos or monastery forest, people and animals can fully enjoy themselves and there is always plenty to do in the recreational domain of Puyenbroeck. Because we ourselves love nature very much and are often active in our garden, the idea arose during the lock down to make our meadow located next to our home available to campers. Everything is still in its infancy, but you don't need much to enjoy nature, of course. Campers have everything with them and do not need much outside of a blissful place. In the meantime, we have already worked on a small sanitary block to allow even more people to enjoy our beautiful spot.

We had a great time in the glamping tent. The tent has a nice bed, and even a small fridge. Outside it is wonderful to sit in the chairs and there is an outdoor kitchen that is well equipped. We have experienced the outdoor shower as a pleasure! We rented a canoe from the host for a day, which is highly recommended.

How was the contact with the host?
Very friendly and nice people. We rented the canoe from the host with good explanation and the best tip where to go sailing with beautiful nature.

Tips for new guests?
A bicycle is handy to have because, for example, the supermarket is quite a walk away

Nice breakfast every morning with fresh eggs (to be cooked yourself.)

We loved sleeping in the roof tent.
It is a cozy site and has clean sanitary facilities with a wonderful outdoor shower! The canoe trip was sooo beautiful, definitely recommended! We ended with a nice breakfast.

How was the contact with the host?
The hosts were super friendly and always ready to answer questions or give tips.

Tips for new guests?
Don't forget the toilet paper and bbq tongs. Also a waterproof bag if you go out with the canoe.

A great mini paradise not far from home.
We stayed there for 10 days with our tent and 3 young kids. We really enjoyed our 10 days there. You can choose your own pitch, you will not be bothered by other campers. The plumbing and especially the outdoor shower is great.
You quickly get used to the noise of the highway and you don't notice it. We missed some rinsing opportunity but our kids were inventive enough. Investing in extra shade places is a must, luckily we were able to move to the only shade place.

How was the contact with the host?
The owners were traveling but the replacement was just great. We always received text and explanation, an extra chat.

Tips for new guests?
A very quiet and no-nonsense camping site that adorns in simplicity. We could be ourselves completely.
There is plenty to do with kids in the area: Puyenbroeck, Zeeland, Breskens, Cadzand,...

How was the contact with the host?
Smooth quick response, open to all questions, friendly man on site, every morning he did his dessert to ask if everything was okay.

We had a great time here. Quiet campsite with good facilities.

How was the contact with the host?
We were well received. He gave us a tour and helped where necessary. He went for a run every morning. He was very concerned with his guests.

Tips for new guests?
Bring a good extension cord if you want electricity. There are limited places. Furthermore, enjoy and visit Gent.

We did not feel very comfortable during our stay. The host reassured us the camping grounds were very peaceful, but at the same time was having a private party at the camping grounds while playing loud music. Upon our request to turn the music down we had to point out his own camping regulations of silence after 10PM, of which he seemed to be unaware. He did turn the music down, but it made us very uncomfortable having to have this conversation.

The camping grounds are located off a highway, so peaceful would not be how we'd describe the place to begin with.

Compost toilets are a great idea, but were at times very smelly. Toilet paper was not provided, which was not pointed out before our stay and seems a little (if not a lot) stingy.

The place we were asked to put our tent had very uneven ground, hence was not comfortable for sleeping. There was dog poop in the grass next to our tent.

Overal, we felt very uncomfortable and ill at ease.

How was the contact with the host?
We did not feel comfortable around the host. Our requests to turn off the music and clean up the dog poop were met, but the host seemed to find these requests very amusing and made us feel unreasonable.

Tips for new guests?
Bring toilet paper and ear plugs. Not great for camping with a tent because of the uneven ground.

Host Suzie has responded

Sorry to read. However, we try to please everyone. We will indeed let you know in advance that everyone brings their toilet paper. We are experienced campers and in many places, including abroad, where we stay. So we didn't think much about it. Our apologies.
The dog food is a pity. We ask people to leave everything behind. As for the noise at night, I can only offer my sincere apologies. This is the first bad review and it hurts a bit, but we'll learn from it.

A super nice place to stay, and the defender was fantastic to sleep in! The sanitary block was very nicely done, and the outdoor showers were a unique experience. The only downside is that the location is near a highway: if the wind is wrong, you can hear this noise quite well..

How was the contact with the host?
Very nice and friendly people! It was a pleasant welcome and they did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They lent BBQ equipment, brought tea (instead of coffee) after they knew I was not a coffee drinker, etc.

Tips for new guests?
- Be sure to go for a bike ride in the area! It's beautiful!
- The defender is well equipped, and kitchen equipment is also provided with everything except barbecue tongs: so be sure to bring these with you when you go BBQ.

Nice place and so close to home! A gem. Ideally located for walkers, but also a paradise for cyclists in this region. Small-scale what we are looking for and yet all the comfort. We had provided breakfast for eleven but heard from Oswald that we could still order this for a bargain price. What a stroke of luck, really tasty and a lot. We will come back with my grandchildren and then rent the glamping tent

What a nice place. We arrived at half past one and it was that 30 degrees. We had a spot near the trees and with the awning shade enough. To cool off, we rinsed off in the shower. We did some aerial shots with the drone. Shower is lovely! The natural toilet is also a special experience. Wonderfully quiet and a really nice place for a transit night.

Very nice campsite! Places are marked out with high grass, so that everyone has their own spot. The sanitary block is very nicely done. But with us it was 'busy' on the camping site, so the compostable toilets were quickly overcrowded ... Showering outside was really heavenly! This campsite is highly recommended :)

How was the contact with the host?

Top spot! We were 8 families on a camping weekend and had a wonderful time. There is a lot of space on the meadow so that we could stand together. The sanitary block was cleverly made: 2 natural toilets, 2 outdoor showers with good running hot water and a place where you could wash dishes. We could use a fire bowl. The children could roam freely and safely.

How was the contact with the host?
Very good. Both in advance and on site they were very approachable and friendly.

Tips for new guests?
Keep in mind that depending on how the wind is, you can hear the highway quite well at night. In very hot weather it is advisable to bring something that you can use to make shade.

One of the best Campspaces I have ever visited. The terrain is design in a way that you have privacy yet you are able to enjoy the beautiful nature. During my stay I was able to make a campfire and enjoy some quality time to rest and enjoy! Personally I was amazed by the craftmanship of the outdoor shower facility as it offers everything while complements the Campspace. I am already looking forward to visit again.

How was the contact with the host?
Nice chat with the owners, very accessible.

Tips for new guests?
Rather tip for Suzy and husband : if groups are expected, inform other prospective visitors in advance. Not necessarily a nuisance, but then you can decide for yourself whether or not you want to take the risk of some more noise 'at the neighbors' ... But don't let this deter anyone from booking a night there.

However, that turned out to be unnecessary. When booking it was indicated that there was an event for make a wish with the Overlander Community, but that there was still a place for our camper. Now that place did not disappoint! We received VIP treatment both in terms of location and hospitality.
