Nature experience between forest, wine and meadows
Hiking, cycling, swimming, enjoying the landscape, relaxing, eating out inexpensively, wine tasting...
leisure offers
The area is particularly suitable for cyclists, mountain bikers and hiking. In less than an hour you can walk to the Zabelstein castle ruins with its lookout tower and a wide view of the Franconian countryside. Below the Zabelstein lies the hamlet of Neuhof with its archery park and adventure farm. On hot days you can cool off at the "Gipssee" natural bathing lake near Donnersdorf. The inns in Falkenstein and in the neighboring towns are ideal for physical well-being. A special experience is a wine tasting on the Falkenberg or looking over the shoulders of the vintners in the vineyard.
The cities of Gerolzhofen, Volkach, Würzburg, Schweinfurt and Bamberg with their many sights come into consideration for day trips. Thanks to the excellent cycle path network and the proximity to the Main Cycle Path, you can also easily reach these destinations by bike.
Vineyard: Donnersdorfer Falkenberg
The Falkenberg is probably the most beautiful vineyard in Franconia. The many vineyard cottages are characteristic of this. You can hike between vineyards, hedges and ridges on the paved paths and enjoy nature. If you need more exercise, you can climb the Zabelstein from the Falkenberg via various hiking trails. The Falkenberg is also part of the Steigerwald panoramic hiking trail between Bamberg and Bad Windsheim.
viticulture
In Falkenstein, a small idyllic district of Donnersdorf, the Dörflein family runs their winery in one of the most beautiful vineyards in Franconia, the Donnersdorfer Falkenberg.
The small vineyard parcels with their approx. 50 vineyard cottages exude a special charm. The vineyard is located in the area of the Steigerwald wine panorama and between the attractive cities of Würzburg and Bamberg. The vineyards nestle against the sun-drenched foothills of the Steigerwald below the Zabelstein. At a height of 489 meters, it is an ideal destination for hikers and cyclists.
Viticulture is already practiced in the family in the fourth generation. The grape varieties Bacchus, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Acolon are grown.
Through painstaking manual work, the winery achieves that they can harvest healthy and sunlit grapes. These form the basis for fruity and expressive wines. Modern, technical cellar processes such as cold fermentation help to ensure that the quality from the vineyard can also be felt in the glass.
But only those who taste it can be enthusiastic about these wines. So come and visit us and get to know our wines.
