About this campspace

At a unique nature camping site in Dranouter in Dranouter - Heuvelland, Piet offers several unique places, “back to basics”. From old-fashioned bivouacing with your own tent or camper, to an authentic caravan or guest house!

You stay in peace in the orchard, vineyard, hay meadow or (food) bush, on a site of 1.7 hectares, with very spacious camping pitches and a view of the hills of the beautiful Heuvelland.
On the grounds you can walk to the vineyard, the food forest, the wild grove, the sheep pasture, and the natural swimming pool (where you can take a refreshing dip of 5 meters high).
Or enjoy the wood-fired sauna barrel* and/or hot tub*!

Go back to basics with plenty of space and nature around you, make a cozy campfire at your pitch and enjoy the things you don't do at home - based on the 'leave no trace' ethic. The 52m2 tipi tent is available free of charge for guests and offers access to a refrigerator, kettle and electricity for charging a telephone, headlight, etc. You can hide in it from the rain, make a campfire…
Everything is deliberately kept very basic, minimalistic and natural.
You are welcome with your friends, family and/or four-legged friends!

The region is fantastic for walking or cycling! There is a walking junction and a cycling junction on the site, from which many unpaved (walking) routes start. As an avid walker, Piet is happy to help you find a suitable walking route for you.

Within walking or cycling distance you will find several restaurants, cafes, a very culinary butcher, the best bakery, French supermarkets with oysters ... and you can even catch a live performance in the folk music center.
At the weekend we sometimes light the wood oven and you can join us in the evening for a delicious dish or we make pizza or there is the possibility to drink coffee on the terrace and / or have breakfast.

You can only book our guesthouse and the entire tipi via our website. All extra services (electricity, fire bowl, firewood…) can also be BOOKED ON THE SITE and paid in cash without extra service costs!

Piet is a 'non-conformist' and a 'free spirit'. He enjoys many 'basic' activities: bushcraft, hiking, wild picking, campfire, outdoor cooking, sleeping under stars, climbing, diving, cold therapy, barefoot, meditation, sauna... and he likes to regularly 'get out of his comfort zone'.   • In Bailleul there is a market on Tuesday morning and Thursday in the evening. Also organic vegetables. There is also a farmer's shop with fresh produce.

Only one negative - within 500m is a large intensive farming unit for rearing pigs. 

With the wind from a northerly direction the “country” odours can be strong; these are not natural country smells!  And for those sensitive to this sometimes the sounds can be disturbing as well.



The host and owner (Piet) has done amazing work on the site to try to “rewild” the area with trees and natural habitat (wild flowers etc), in stark comparison with the monoculture grains and corn (for animal feeds) in the fields around.



We wish him every success as he continues with his camp site venture. We hope to return next year.

We stayed here overnight in a campervan.
Beautiful location and view. Pleasant layout of the spacious camping pitches. Super quiet at night.
The only downside is the plumbing. Open the door, hurry back. Best put some clothespins on your nose.

Last month we cycled the brand new Flanders Route and therefore spent one night at Piet's trekking site. The description 'back to basics' applies 100% to this campsite. In our opinion, the strong points of this campsite are: the silence, the great view of the Heuvelland and the Kemmelberg, the tipi with excellent facilities such as refrigerator, availability of tasty local white wine, large socket for chargers and a great place for hikers to food, shelter, etc. When we were there it was quite muddy here and there, but come on, that's part of the concept of a nature campsite.

The entire yard is maintained in an ecological way. Plants are given plenty of space to grow and bloom. Mowing is done where necessary. No use of chemical pesticides, etc.
Our vineyard is organically maintained. We use our own water extraction and good filtering. Everything in the yard is dominated by nature, in which 'human beings' are only a small link. If you come to camp on our site, we apply the 'leave no trace' ethic; you leave our premises in the same condition as you found it. All waste is also taken back (excluding compostable waste or paying option).

Cancellation Policy

Guests who cancel at least 30 days before check-in date will receive a refund of the amount paid by them (excl. Campspace fees). If they cancel between 14 and 30 days before check-in, they will receive a 50% refund. Otherwise they will not be refunded.

Rules

Few rules, take advantage to simply enjoy nature!
We use the 'leave no trace' ethic for the camping pitches. Have respect for nature, yourself and for others, we are one and indivisible.
When in doubt, talk to each other or agree on how and what to do. We do not 'interfere' with the contact between our visitors. We also work completely on trust and there are few restrictions. We would also like to point out that everyone is welcome with or without a certificate or pass; and this will remain so. We don't judge anyone by their choice. On departure your place will be left as on arrival, so all waste will be taken back (excl. compostable or paying option).
IMPORTANT: OPEN FIRE, can only be used in our fire bowls approved by the municipality! So no barbecues that are used for open fire; we have to be strict about that, thank you for your understanding.
No amplified music allowed on site. Quieter after 11 pm.
Extra services can only be paid on site in cash, so no electronic payment systems!
Can we also ask to use some biodegradable detergents (shampoo, dishwashing liquid…)?
Some small, obvious agreements can be viewed/read in our tipi and we expect to know.
