At a unique nature camping site in Dranouter in Dranouter - Heuvelland, Piet offers several unique places, “back to basics”. From old-fashioned bivouacing with your own tent or camper, to an authentic caravan or guest house!
You stay in peace in the orchard, vineyard, hay meadow or (food) bush, on a site of 1.7 hectares, with very spacious camping pitches and a view of the hills of the beautiful Heuvelland.
On the grounds you can walk to the vineyard, the food forest, the wild grove, the sheep pasture, and the natural swimming pool (where you can take a refreshing dip of 5 meters high).
Or enjoy the wood-fired sauna barrel* and/or hot tub*!
Go back to basics with plenty of space and nature around you, make a cozy campfire at your pitch and enjoy the things you don't do at home - based on the 'leave no trace' ethic. The 52m2 tipi tent is available free of charge for guests and offers access to a refrigerator, kettle and electricity for charging a telephone, headlight, etc. You can hide in it from the rain, make a campfire…
Everything is deliberately kept very basic, minimalistic and natural.
You are welcome with your friends, family and/or four-legged friends!
The region is fantastic for walking or cycling! There is a walking junction and a cycling junction on the site, from which many unpaved (walking) routes start. As an avid walker, Piet is happy to help you find a suitable walking route for you.
Within walking or cycling distance you will find several restaurants, cafes, a very culinary butcher, the best bakery, French supermarkets with oysters ... and you can even catch a live performance in the folk music center.
At the weekend we sometimes light the wood oven and you can join us in the evening for a delicious dish or we make pizza or there is the possibility to drink coffee on the terrace and / or have breakfast.
You can only book our guesthouse and the entire tipi via our website. All extra services (electricity, fire bowl, firewood…) can also be BOOKED ON THE SITE and paid in cash without extra service costs!
*The sauna and hot tub must be reserved and paid for on the spot, if available. Sauna, private: €30/1.5 hours (incl. firewood) and hot tub from €75. ATTENTION, on site : ONLY cash payments, NO electronic payment systems!
Be sure to take a look at the many beautiful photos of our past guests at the end of the photo series.

Piet is a 'non-conformist' and a 'free spirit'. He enjoys many 'basic' activities: bushcraft, hiking, wild picking, campfire, outdoor cooking, sleeping under stars, climbing, diving, cold therapy, barefoot, meditation, sauna... and he likes to regularly 'get out of his comfort zone'. ' and to train his resilience, and fasting is regularly on his schedule.
He likes to travel to countries with old forests, mountains, rough cliffs... but also to big cities with many different cultures. Alone, with friends and/or his faithful dog.
He grows his own organic vegetables (or picks them in nature) and he breeds animals in a very respectful way, slowly, with the seasons.
He gets other food as much as possible from neighboring befriended (organic) farmers.
He also makes his own natural wine from the vineyard at 't Heuvelhof and makes his own juices from the orchard.
Piet greatly enjoys an intimate, colorful or extravagant company, but also complete solitude.
Visit the many local vineyards and taste our delicious wines. Wine terraces.
Walk and cycle on and around the beautiful hills, right on 'de schreve' of Flanders and French Flanders. Visit the picturesque villages. Many junction routes and other routes along our site.
In Bailleul there is a market on Tuesday morning and Thursday in the evening. Also organic vegetables. There is also a farmer's shop with fresh produce.
At 1 kilometer a brown pub with more than 500 beers and own wine.
Within walking distance. It is best to book restaurants in high season.

The perfect place to combine a holiday in your own country with the back-to-nature vibe, while there are more than enough options around the corner to not completely lose contact with the outside world. Recommended for both couples and families!
How was the contact with the host?
Smooth communication, perfect welcome and very soothing laissez faire, of course with respect for both other guests and the site itself.
Tips for new guests?
Bring environmentally conscious soap/toothpaste/... if needed. Access roads are not very wide, sometimes with some dense vegetation - so be careful with (very) large campers.

We spent a night in the Natuurterrein 't Heuvelhof. We booked the Roulotte, and one space for our camper van. The Roulotte was very nicely decorated, and had a very nice collection of vinyls. Contact with Piet was immediately very personal. Cool pé who welcomes you and tells you how everything works. He also has a nice philosopher that we could relate to, so the ice was quickly broken. He is like his campspace: a bit untouched :-)
The campspace fully met our expectations. Peace, nature, beautiful view, electricity, nice and very beautiful region to explore (by bike). Moreover, a nice host who leaves you alone. So what more could you wish for. We were there with a campervan and ideal terrain. Be sure to bring your bike because this region is of course suitable for this. In the (wide) area there is a lot to experience: war history, wine estates, beautiful walking routes too, nice villages also over the 'serbs' and ... not unimportant, you regularly come across a nice cafe. We will definitely come back here.

It was our second time here. Since our first visit, things have changed and more places have been added. Now we could stand on the site in a nice place. All pitches at the rear have nice views and are of sufficient size. Only in rainy weather it may be a little more difficult for campers.
We did not like the new paved motorhome and have not been there. If that place could be decorated a bit nicer, I would probably do it. But all other places are more than ok. A campspace where we would like to return.
How was the contact with the host?
Piet is a no nonsense guy who consciously keeps everything simple. He is present but grants you complete freedom and tranquility.

The Heuvelland is so beautiful that cycling and/or walking is a must. With the cycling and walking nodes you can put together wonderful trips. There is also a lot of war history that you can delve into and ... there are delicious wines and bubbles nearby. Our preference is Entre Deux Monts which make two delicious bubbles (Bacquaert and Wiscoutre).

Very nice location with a wide view and a beautiful vision with respect for the natural cycle ... Nice to explore the Heuvelland from there. But certainly nice to just spend a day on site, in peace and simplicity.
How was the contact with the host?
Friendly host who chats with his campers every day.
Tips for new guests?
Be sure to take your waste back and not leave it lying around. It's nice for everyone... :)

First time at this site.
Good facilities, good location, well organised. Friendly reception, and helpful set up.
Only one negative - within 500m is a large intensive farming unit for rearing pigs.
With the wind from a northerly direction the “country” odours can be strong; these are not natural country smells! And for those sensitive to this sometimes the sounds can be disturbing as well.
The host and owner (Piet) has done amazing work on the site to try to “rewild” the area with trees and natural habitat (wild flowers etc), in stark comparison with the monoculture grains and corn (for animal feeds) in the fields around.
We wish him every success as he continues with his camp site venture. We hope to return next year.

Excellent

hey duncan,
thank you for your correct review!
Fortunately, the wind usually comes from a (south) westerly direction. From the north you can indeed smell the smell (luckily I am already somewhat immune to that).
The small pig farms of yesteryear have unfortunately (have to) disappear.
greetings, pete

Beautiful location. Enough privacy.
Good facilities such as the fire pit and camping chairs.
Swimming pond slightly less attractive than expected.
How was the contact with the host?
Contact via site went perfectly.
Didn't have a personal meeting.
Not really necessary for us either.

Tips for new guests?
Fire bowl and some wood is certainly not an unnecessary luxury, when it gets a bit cooler in the evening. There are several places with a different character, so make sure you know where you will be.

Nice quiet place on a large domain.
On arrival it turned out that we had plenty of room to stand somewhere. We parked the campervan in such a way that we had a view of the valley.
Very nice place if you are reasonably self-sufficient. It is a real 'back to basic' place. Natural toilet and shower is available.
How was the contact with the host?
Piet came by and told us about the domain. We have had no further contact.
Thank you Piet for the good restaurant tip where we went on foot. Delicious eaten.

Soil was wet, we had to be ground back on the street with our Van when we left. But this was no problem for Piet, who very helpfully came to help us with his tractor.
In the evening we enjoyed the lovely sauna outside with swimming pond.
How was the contact with the host?
Very good
Tips for new guests?
In the winter season it is best to have four-wheel drive, the terrain is wet and slippery. It is best to discuss this in advance with Piet

Very nice place to recharge your batteries. Piet likes to give nature every opportunity and the camping site is therefore also set up in that way. We especially enjoyed the peace, the view of the Kemmelberg and the evenings around the wood fire.
How was the contact with the host?
We were received very kindly. Piet took the trouble to stop by from time to time for a chat. He gave us very valuable tips for the eateries in the surrounding area. We also received a lot of information about the camp site beforehand.
Tips for new guests?
We had our bikes with us and that turned out to be absolutely worth it. The region is particularly beautiful and in the morning you can go by bike to get your croissants in Belle, just across the border. You like to take the slopes...

It was a wonderful experience.
We were in the orchard with the tent. On arrival we still had a lot of choice of sleeping places. From our sleeping place you had a beautiful view over the fields. Everything was there.
How was the contact with the host?
Piet immediately on arrival gave a tour and explain how the shower, toilet and further worked. Pleasant host who also came to take a look the following days and ensured that facilities were kept clean

We stayed here overnight in a campervan.
Beautiful location and view. Pleasant layout of the spacious camping pitches. Super quiet at night.
The only downside is the plumbing. Open the door, hurry back. Best put some clothespins on your nose.
We fully support the idea of a compost toilet, but it could be more hygienic.
We will hopefully come back here again…
How was the contact with the host?
Friendly welcome.
Tips for new guests?
Bring your own toilet.

Last month we cycled the brand new Flanders Route and therefore spent one night at Piet's trekking site. The description 'back to basics' applies 100% to this campsite. In our opinion, the strong points of this campsite are: the silence, the great view of the Heuvelland and the Kemmelberg, the tipi with excellent facilities such as refrigerator, availability of tasty local white wine, large socket for chargers and a great place for hikers to food, shelter, etc. When we were there it was quite muddy here and there, but come on, that's part of the concept of a nature campsite.
How was the contact with the host?
Great, good tips, nice chat.
Tips for new guests?
For us it was immediately on the road the next morning, but next time we would definitely like to use the sauna and make a campfire.

Hi Jasper,
Nice, accurate description, thank you. Mud was indeed a problem in some places this summer, but little could be done about it. Still, we look at throwing wood chips on some trails.
You might want to check this out the next time you come by.
Until then.

Water-saving measures
The entire yard is maintained in an ecological way. Plants are given plenty of space to grow and bloom. Mowing is done where necessary. No use of chemical pesticides, etc.
Our vineyard is organically maintained. We use our own water extraction and good filtering. Everything in the yard is dominated by nature, in which 'human beings' are only a small link. If you come to camp on our site, we apply the 'leave no trace' ethic; you leave our premises in the same condition as you found it. All waste is also taken back (excluding compostable waste or paying option).
Guests who cancel at least 30 days before check-in date will receive a refund of the amount paid by them (excl. Campspace fees). If they cancel between 14 and 30 days before check-in, they will receive a 50% refund. Otherwise they will not be refunded.
Few rules, take advantage to simply enjoy nature!
We use the 'leave no trace' ethic for the camping pitches. Have respect for nature, yourself and for others, we are one and indivisible.
When in doubt, talk to each other or agree on how and what to do. We do not 'interfere' with the contact between our visitors. We also work completely on trust and there are few restrictions. We would also like to point out that everyone is welcome with or without a certificate or pass; and this will remain so. We don't judge anyone by their choice. On departure your place will be left as on arrival, so all waste will be taken back (excl. compostable or paying option).
IMPORTANT: OPEN FIRE, can only be used in our fire bowls approved by the municipality! So no barbecues that are used for open fire; we have to be strict about that, thank you for your understanding.
No amplified music allowed on site. Quieter after 11 pm.
Extra services can only be paid on site in cash, so no electronic payment systems!
Can we also ask to use some biodegradable detergents (shampoo, dishwashing liquid…)?
Some small, obvious agreements can be viewed/read in our tipi and we expect to know.
