About this campspace

At a unique nature campsite in Dranouter - Heuvelland, right on the border with France, Piet offers several unique places, “back to basics” or “rewilding yourself” (see our plans for 2024 below). From old-fashioned camping with your own tent or camper, to an authentic caravan or the renovated guest house!

You stay in peace in the orchard, vineyard, hay meadow or (food) bush, on a site of 1.7 hectares, with very spacious camping pitches and a view of the hills of the beautiful Heuvelland.
On the grounds you can walk to the vineyard, the food forest, the overgrown grove, the sheep pasture, and the natural swimming pool (where you can take a refreshing dip of 5 meters high).
Or enjoy the wood-fired sauna barrel* and/or hot tub*! There is also a continuous ice bath of 3°C. Go back to basics, with plenty of space and nature around you, make a cozy campfire at your pitch and enjoy the things you don't do at home - based on the 'leave no trace' ethic. The 52m2 teepee tent is made available to guests free of charge and offers access to a refrigerator, kettle and electricity for charging a telephone, headlight, etc. You can hide in it from the rain, make a campfire…
Everything is deliberately kept very basic, minimalistic and natural, including the dry toilets and showers (with the necessary hygiene!). You are welcome with your friends, family and/or four-legged friends!

The region is fantastic for walking or cycling! There is a walking junction and a cycling junction on the site, from which many unpaved (walking) routes start. As an avid walker, Piet is happy to help you find a suitable walking route for you.

You will find several restaurants and cafes within walking or cycling distance. You can cycle into France for fresh croissants and 'une baquette, buy French delicacies at a culinary butcher, go to a farmers' cooperative for vegetables, buy fresh oysters in the French supermarket... and you can even watch a live performance. take part in the Folk music centre. You can only book our guesthouse and the entire tipi via our website. All extra services (electricity, fire bowl, firewood…) can also be BOOKED ON THE SITE and paid in cash without extra service costs!

*The sauna and hot tub must be reserved and paid for on the spot, if available. Sauna, private: €45/1.5 hours (incl. firewood, swimming pool, exfoliating soap…) and hot tub from €80/3 hours. ATTENTION, on site : ONLY cash payments, NO electronic payment systems!

We do not accept groups during the holiday periods; or inquire first! Be sure to take a look at the many beautiful photos of our past guests at the end of the photo series. Also visit our website for even more information.

NEW in 2024!
In 2024 we will focus even more on 'experience' and 'rewilding' of yourself at 't Heuvelhof and in Heuvelland. On fixed days we offer silent walks, we look for the 'primal power' in ourselves by means of. breathing meditation and ice baths, we do yoga in the morning sun, we prepare dishes in the wood-fired clay oven with plants from the 'wild', we practice the 'Nordic Cycle' (Viking bath: sauna/ice bath/hot tub/sauna…), we learn bushcraft techniques, we climb trees… and drum circle, cocoa ceremony, sweat lodge, we jump from 5 meters high into the water, we sleep under the starry sky…
and we are looking at installing more dry toilets (and reducing the possible odor nuisance). Follow us on social media or via the newsletter on our website.

Perfect for...

Adventurers, minimalists and added value seekers who love staying in nature with little luxury, but still that little extra. Get out of your comfort zone here.

Your host, piet

4.68 (102 reviews)

Acceptance rate: 100%

Piet is a 'non-conformist' and a 'free spirit'. He finds his liking in many 'basic' activities: bushcraft, hiking, wild picking, campfire, outdoor cooking, sleeping under stars, climbing, diving, cold therapy, Nordic Cycle, barefoot, meditation, sauna, 'rewild yourself'..., he likes to regularly step out of his comfort zone and train his resilience, and fasting is regularly on his schedule.
He likes to travel to countries with old forests, mountains, rough cliffs... but also to big cities with many different cultures. Alone, with friends and/or his faithful dog.
He grows his own organic vegetables (or picks them in nature) and he breeds animals in a very respectful way, slowly, with the seasons.
He gets other food as much as possible from neighboring befriended (organic) farmers.

He also makes his own natural wine from the vineyard at 't Heuvelhof and makes his own juices from the orchard.
Piet greatly enjoys an intimate, colorful or extravagant company, but also complete solitude.

Tips

  • Visit the many local vineyards and taste our delicious wines. Wine terraces.

  • Walk and cycle on and around the beautiful hills, right on 'de schreve' of Flanders and French Flanders. Visit the picturesque villages. Many junction routes and other routes along our site.

  • In Bailleul there is a market on Tuesday morning and Thursday in the evening. Also organic vegetables. There is also a farmer's shop with fresh produce.

  • At 1 kilometer a brown pub with more than 500 beers and own wine.

  • Within walking distance. It is best to book restaurants in high season.

Nice back to basic place. Good vibe and a warm welcome by Piet. Ideal for us to stay with a camper for 1 or 2 nights. Make a fire and rest.

How was the contact with the host?
nice, you immediately feel welcome

Tips for new guests?
It is not a 5 star campsite. So if you are looking for luxury and comfort.. just search!

We came here 2 years ago and are really impressed with how this place has grown and prospered in a very natural, ecological way.

You MUST have been here once, there is something "magical" in the air.. A connecting, healing, energetic feeling... Difficult to describe with words! An oasis of peace, where you can REALLY relax.. 🌿🍃

Just being.. pure enjoyment of the silence and connecting with yourself, nature, the (fellow) people around you, the animals...

Back to the basics (with some luxury if desired) Which ensures that you really come back into contact with the basic elements.
++ outdoor shower

Cherry on the cake before our departure: yoga/breathing session, ge
followed by an ice bath (!!) and then in the hot tub.

We had a wonderfully peaceful stay at the campsite with Piet. Exactly how we imagined it: quiet and spacious places, everyone does their thing and can be who they are.
We will definitely come back!

How was the contact with the host?
Very nice! Piet walks around the campsite and is approachable but does not impose himself.
Very fine man.

Tips for new guests?
Highly recommended for those who love quiet camping and back to basics.
There is a dry toilet, important to know. But it is very clean and is cleaned daily. Our 11-year-old son also had no problems with this.

A while ago, but what a wonderful location to spend the night with our van! Spacious places, to choose yourself. Kids loved the swimming pool. For those who do not need luxury, this is highly recommended! Although we think this environment and setting is pure luxury ;-)

We loved it. Piet has created a paradise and we can be happy that he wants to share it. It is very primitive (showering outside behind a folding screen), pooping in a hole and covering with sawdust, but if you can handle that: GO THERE IMMEDIATELY! Because it really is something very special in terms of location, in terms of space, in terms of the type of people that come to it. You imagine yourself in another world and that is healing. We now know that we actually need very little to be happy. We will definitely be back.... but then even more nights.
PS Piet is happy to print custom walking routes for you. Guaranteed beautiful hiking trails!

How was the contact with the host?
Top. Nice that Piet makes his round along the guests every morning.

The perfect place to combine a holiday in your own country with the back-to-nature vibe, while there are more than enough options around the corner to not completely lose contact with the outside world. Recommended for both couples and families!

How was the contact with the host?
Smooth communication, perfect welcome and very soothing laissez faire, of course with respect for both other guests and the site itself.

Tips for new guests?
Bring environmentally conscious soap/toothpaste/... if needed. Access roads are not very wide, sometimes with some dense vegetation - so be careful with (very) large campers.

We spent a night in the Natuurterrein 't Heuvelhof. We booked the Roulotte, and one space for our camper van. The Roulotte was very nicely decorated, and had a very nice collection of vinyls. It was our second time here. Since our first visit, things have changed and more places have been added. Now we could stand on the site in a nice place. All pitches at the rear have nice views and are of sufficient size. Only in rainy weather it may be a little more difficult for campers.
We did not like the new paved motorhome and have not been there. If that place could be decorated a bit nicer, I would probably do it. But all other places are more than ok. A campspace where we would like to return.

How was the contact with the host?
Piet is a no nonsense guy who consciously keeps everything simple. He is present but grants you complete freedom and tranquility.

The Heuvelland is so beautiful that cycling and/or walking is a must. With the cycling and walking nodes you can put together wonderful trips. First time at this site.

Good facilities, good location, well organised. Friendly reception, and helpful set up.

Only one negative - within 500m is a large intensive farming unit for rearing pigs.

With the wind from a northerly direction the “country” odours can be strong; these are not natural country smells!  And for those sensitive to this sometimes the sounds can be disturbing as well.

The host and owner (Piet) has done amazing work on the site to try to “rewild” the area with trees and natural habitat (wild flowers etc), in stark comparison with the monoculture grains and corn (for animal feeds) in the fields around.

We wish him every success as he continues with his camp site venture. We hope to return next year.

How was the contact with the host?
Excellent

Tips for new guests?
Book ahead.

hey duncan,

Fortunately, the wind usually comes from a (south) westerly direction. From the north you can indeed smell the smell (luckily I am already somewhat immune to that).
The small pig farms of yesteryear have unfortunately (have to) disappear.

Beautiful, quietly located campsite in the middle of greenery. Enjoyed the peace and nature. Recommended!
