About this campspace

Hello welcome! If you're looking for peace and quiet and want to enjoy nature, you've come to the right place. My place is in the middle of the agricultural area of Zuid-Beveland. From here it is a short walk to the 'Veerse Meer' with the Piet forest. You can go canoeing and swimming there, it is a well-known place for outdoor sports in Zeeland. I live here with my dog, sheep, chickens, rooster and two cats. I've been working from home for my second-hand bookshop for 20 years, so you don't need to bring any books, though: if you're the writer!

There is plenty to do in the area and at the same time it is quiet here, in the evening it is dark sometimes there is a beautiful starry sky. In the morning you will be woken up by the crowing of the rooster!

It was very nice camping with Joël: quiet and cozy. With a lot of natural life in the garden :-)
Joël hospitably shares what the place has to offer: fresh figs, eggs, tomatoes, wood for a wood fire, neat toilet and shower, kitchen with fridge and tips and experiences if you ask.
And of course also the tranquility (therefore not always quiet ;-)) of the polder, the beautiful views, the Veerse lake so close by, and the barn full of books.
Joël is warm and straightforward at the same time. She strikes a very pleasant balance between being helpful and present and letting you do it, I thought. Very nice!

Best family,
Thank you very much for this review, glad you like books! And yes, it looks more and more like the South of France in the 70s here, I remember vacations (I was a kid then) with melted butter in a tent. Joel is the Masarati of farm garden landlords. Exactly the right balance between friendly and interested on the one hand and allowing you peace and privacy on the other. In a word: great! Delightful garden, so atmospheric, so quiet and yet cozy with the dog, the chickens and the cat. And of course the spontaneity and humor of Joel. It's all rather piecemeal, but we find that nonchalance a relief. Finally not so raked. Handy even at tropical temperatures and strong winds: a kitchen for cooking and a large fridge that you can use.
We had a very good time at and with Joel. The space of Zeeland is blissful. For connoisseurs: highly recommended!

The stay was very nice! We were warmly welcomed and shown around the garden. Due to the Corona measures we had access to a private shower, toilet, and kitchen! The location was beautiful with lambs, chickens, a dog, and two cats in a large garden full of blossom trees and a vegetable garden. We were allowed to light a campfire in the evening and there was a second hand bookshop from which we could read as much as we wanted! In the morning we were treated to fresh eggs. The house was surrounded by nature, a 10-minute walk from the Veerse Meer. An ideal starting point for kayaking, walking, cycling, swimming, or lying on the beach. The Zeeland coast is about half an hour away. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!

My friend and I had a lovely time in Joel’s backyard. Due to Corona she currently only receives one household at a time, which means that it is even quieter and that you have all the space. The kitchen is very nice, we could use cutlery, plates, cups, and even a pan. And the bathroom was also for private use, wonderful. You can feed leftovers to the chickens and your eyes can enjoy the vegetable garden, beautiful flowers and plants, and a cornfield adjacent to the garden. You are really in the middle of nature! In the shed, you can choose one from the wide selection of children’s books, very nice! In short, a paradise. Joel responds quickly to your questions by email and during our stay, she was helpful and generous. She would come by every now and then to ask how we were doing in the garden and for a nice chat at the campfire. Other than that, she let us do our thing and we let her.

We really liked it there, my girlfriend says it’s like paradise. Joel is very hospitable and warm. But she also just lets you do your own thing and she does her thing. And it is very luxurious that there is also a kitchen that you can use and a shower. We have two children, our daughter was crazy about the bookshop Joel has and our son was very happy with the chickens and the sheep. He was able to eat an egg that he grabbed himself. Very quiet and we had a very good time. If we had to rate it, we would give it 5 out of 5.

It was a very pleasant experience. The host was very friendly with letting us use her garden for camping, shower, toilet, and kitchen for cooking. She even gave us fresh eggs from her own chickens every morning and left books from her 2nd hand bookstore for us to read in the kitchen that she thought we would find interesting – a very sweet gesture. She was of course quite clear on maintaining her privacy and recommended us to camp in a spot in the garden where both she and us would have our own spaces, and also requested us to give some space to her animals, which we were fine with. The campsite itself is difficult to reach without a car/bicycle, and is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but that was what we loved about it. Overall it was a fantastic experience and we would be happy to return!

The location is well ago in the middle of the countryside and right behind the sleeper - an old dike. You have a wide view. The camping spot in the garden is nice, with the sheep, chickens, cat ("Malibu" or "grandma") and dog.
In October it was not convenient to stand under and next to an apple/pear tree, and the sheep already had the best part of the garden, which limited the possibilities to set up the tent. But that still works as I had a small tent.
There is a simple kitchen with, among other things, a kettle.

How was the contact with the host?
Joel is super nice and helpful.

Tips for new guests?
If you come from the north by bike with luggage, you can't cross the footpath, because you have to climb over a fence.
Inquire in advance whether there is enough space to set up the tent(s), given the other animals and fruit trees.

Sad ending but overall a good experience... The way in was spectacular, the fields are a fantastic view to enjoy. Joel has a beautiful garden with chickens and sheep that are a joy to watch.

How was the contact with the host?
As we were leaving, we did not wanted to interrupt Joel in her duties so we left in silence. She ran after us to tell us how disappointed she was although we apologized (which I do not see as necessary as we didn't do anything wrong) several times she didn't saw it the same way and continued critiquing us, that was a sad end for a calmly stay.
