About this campspace

Our B&B is located in Avenhorn (North Holland) and in addition to a super nice house, also has a lovely garden in which you can camp. Behind our unique house (an old notary's office) lies a wonderfully peaceful, green garden. Adjacent to the main waterway you can enjoy chirping birds and rippling water. A beautiful nature reserve is less than 500 meters away by foot or by bike. The beautiful town of Hoorn is also definitely worth a visit (8 km).
We have 2 ready-made tents (handy when you are on a cycling holiday, for example!), but you can also set up your own tent of course. There are no cars in our garden and the entire garden is surrounded by a fence, so also ideal for children to play. In the garden there is a fire bowl that can be used freely, so when it gets dark, you can sit around the fire bowl.
In the garden is a cool pimped gypsy wagon, which has a toilet, a shower and a large sink.
Will you also enjoy our garden?
Good to know: Pets are welcome in consultation.

We love camping, we like to go out with our camper van, caravan, our 3 children and our 2 dogs! We thought it was a very nice idea to make our garden available. And what a success it is, super fun! Will you also come camping with us?

Tips

  • Walking or cycling through the Mijzenpolder nature reserve is a must! Enjoy the peace and quiet, the meadow birds and the beautiful views over the ring canal.

  • In Hoorn it is very nice to visit the old port. Spot the beautiful old buildings, the impressive ships and settle down on a terrace by the water.

lovely garden! The extra service with fire bowl with wood and picnic bench, plus the nice shower and toilet makes it a very nice camping spot. Recommended! (we were just unlucky that the neighbors were just doing the job, which caused some noise but that is not due to the host). We were lucky that we were the only guests, if not it seems a little less relaxed to me, but if you like a chat that's nice.

How was the contact with the host?
Perfect! Danielle was very relaxed about everything, we were also allowed to stay for a long time on the last day, we were given all the freedom. Really recommended.

How was the contact with the host?
Very friendly and welcoming! Would have liked to pick us up when we were on the last bit of walk through it. Offered to put our wet stuff in the dryer (which we didn't want as campers😄) We really felt very welcome.

I am super satisfied, shower was nice and warm with hard running water, toilet was clean and tidy and with free toilet paper. There was nothing that I disliked about the campsite or the owners. I would go again.

How was the contact with the host?
Contact was very good, he even helped me to set up my tent because I couldn't do it myself. They gave me an extra blanket because the fence was cold.

Tips for new guests?
Go here because it is very well looked after, everything was clean and tidy. Dogs are allowed here safely because the grounds are fenced. Good recommendation!

We spent the night at this beautiful location during a two-day bikepack tour. Arriving in Avenhorn we ended up in a beautiful orchard and we were warmly welcomed by the owner. We were allowed to pitch our tent anywhere. The sanitary facilities were fine, a nice hot shower, toilet and sink.
In the evening we enjoyed a fire in the fire bowl. In short, the 5 stars are well deserved. Top location to take a break.

Scout Megan About the scout program

Tell us about your experience
Avenhorn, it sounds a bit like some kind of medieval language or a place from Lord of the Rings to me. And.. well.. for half you could certainly say that. This campspace is located in the garden behind the former notary office of Avenhorn. The fairly spacious and imposing house immediately gives you a museum-like feeling. The house is still in its original state, but is being renovated here and there, giving it a beautiful and special old meets new look. The camp space itself, where 2 tents and 1 mobile home are already fully furnished ready to receive guests, is full of apple trees, picnic tables and fire pits. But there is also a trampoline, a swing and a very nice tree house. So everyone has really been thought of. But they also still think along with every guest they receive. Did you forget something? No problem for these hosts! They will get to work for you right away! In addition to the permanent accommodations, you can also spend the night with your own tent.
When we arrived a very friendly club had already started their camping adventure. There were 2 extra tents on the field and the mobile home was also in use.
We have tried the 4-person tent ourselves. It was indicated that the tent was fully equipped. I gladly put it to the test and did not take anything extra in camping equipment with me. Just a toiletry bag, pillow and clean clothes. And that was more than enough, because even a pillow was not needed. A made-up, real, mattress with blanket and pillow was waiting for us. A table with 2 chairs and a camping cupboard with glasses, cups, plates etc.
In the evening we sat outside by a fire, which you can make with their free-to-use wood.
Didn't bring any food? No problem! On the corner you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant and 1 km away you will find the shopping center with a number of nice and practical shops. Do you want to escape your camping adventure for a while? No problem! The bustling center of Hoorn is a 10-minute drive away! A real must-go if you like shopping!

We slept 1 night in the 2 rental tents and we really liked it. Neat, clean and fully equipped tents. Very nice that the beds are already made so you don't have to bring anything to sleep. Comfortable mattresses. Also nice that you can fish directly in the pond next to it. For the evening there are fire bowls in the garden and free firewood is available. The trampoline in the garden makes it complete for children. Had a great stay :-)

How was the contact with the host?
Sebbe and Danielle are very friendly and were easily accessible for questions before and during your stay. A warm welcome and a nice chat about everything. Very pleasant hosts!

The tent and garden was very nice to stay in. Tent and toilet/shower was super clean and has everything we needed. Our two kids loved the trampoline, fruit trees and swing! At night the road along the house is a bit busy and the owners dogs respond to it which woke us up a few times. It was nice to know the property is guarded but we are not dog owners and were scared of them because they are big!

Sebbe and Danielle are very hospitable. We were the first guests in this year's 2-person ready-to-use tent. Were early in the season, so really cold at night. We had brought our own petroleum heater, but it was not necessary because we were also offered a heater. Good mattresses (on the floor) and nice pillows and blankets. Nice cycling during the day and visited the mill museum. Eating out in the evening, because you couldn't cook in the tent. Lovely fire in the evening. Sufficient wood and firelighters were available. There is a kettle. There was also all the necessary crockery available. And what was very nice was the seat. Bench chair and coffee table in the tent. Cozy with pillows, candle and fleece blankets. Cozy lighting in the tent and outside. Toilet and shower in order. Just a pity that the toilet didn't flush at first and the shower didn't get hot. Was resolved. Apparently it was a mistake, because we were the first guests. Very nice that the arrival and departure time was flexible. Really enjoyed the nice outing in a special environment.

How was the contact with the host?

Nice place for a family with a dog. Lots of seats, free firewood for the fire bowls, tents with all the trimmings, sanitary facilities, etc. Two important points of attention:
- The duvets in the tents are much too narrow for the mattresses (think of a queen size duvet ip a twin mattress) and much too thin for April, even with the extra fleece blankets. Bring your own duvet or sleeping bag - although it shouldn't be necessary.

How was the contact with the host?
Fine, although I like to get a clear list of 'what to bring yourself'. Hosts themselves were (exceptionally) not at home.

Tips for new guests?
You are fairly close to the center and an N-road. Earplugs are necessary.

April 2022 · Translated from dutch

Host Sebbe en Danielle has responded

Thank you for your review! It's nice to read that you like the place. That was also noticeable, since you had invited other people to our garden unannounced. We are sorry that you were cold, we always have a heater to borrow, which is also stated in the description. Too bad we can't do anything about it afterwards. But judging by the gas meter, you warmed up nicely under the hot shower.
The description states exactly what is present, so a 'what should you bring yourself' list is of course different per person. And as the description says 'sleeping between the fruit trees and waking up to the birds' is actually the case! But earplugs? You're the first, but might be useful for future visitors who don't want to be woken up by the birds. Thanks for the tips!

I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We rented a 4 person tent. The beds were made (real mattresses 😀) and slept wonderfully. Plumbing was clean and the shower nice and hot. Children stayed with us for a few days. We were allowed to use the fire pit unlimited and that was a huge success: corn on the cob, sausages and marshmallows. Last mentioned lay ready to use with skewers. The children also used the large trampoline and the swimming pool. Only downside was that you heard the traffic all night but you get used to that too. I really liked the villagers. Here they say hello to each other on the street. Delicious.

How was the contact with the host?
The reception by Seppe was good. He was friendly and nice and relaxed, which immediately puts you in holiday mode. Daniëlle responded quickly to our emails and apps. Questions and requests were resolved quickly and adequately. It was all right that we hung our hammock in the orchards. Seppe made a swing for the children on the spot. So good service

Tips for new guests?
Bring a hammock and if you have it a boat. Don't forget pans, sharp knives and cups for your hot drink. If you have small children: the garden can be completely closed off, but pay attention to the road in front of the country house.
You can enjoy a meal by the water at restaurant Groet around the corner.
The hiking trails start around the corner. You cannot rent boats here yet.
