Equipped tent
West of the city of Groningen is one of the most beautiful quarters of the Ommeland: the Westerkwartier.
The region is bursting with variation in landscape and nature. Wierden, curved ditches and winding roads give this area a unique character. In the middle of this beautiful area, in the Polder De Dijken - Bakkerom nature reserve, you can spend the night with us in a unique place. There is a spacious tent with space for 4 air mattresses and a great shepherd's hut where you can prepare your hot meal on a two-burner gas stove and enjoy it with a beautiful view. Our Tamworth pigs roam free on this plot and you can enjoy the many different species of birds and wildlife. You come across foxes, hares and deer with some regularity. It is a wonderful place for walking or cycling. You can go in all directions from the camping spot. Tranquility is what this place can offer you; in the surrounding area there is no one to be seen and at night you can see the stars! If you have an eye for subtle changes in the landscape, you can 'read landscape' to your heart's content here. Grassland, fields, marsh, heathland and hedgerows, located at the transition from the sea clay in the north, via the peat, to the sand in the south.
Toilet facilities are available in the form of a compost toilet. There is no electricity or tap water. We do provide you with a few liters of clean drinking water that you can use for a few days.
One simple bicycle is available (without gears).
Near:
- A bakery, supermarket and butcher 3 km away;
- The Polder De Dijken – Bakkerom nature reserve is a top location for bird watchers. From the tent you can immediately hear and see the first birds;
- Leekstermeer (boat and canoe rental);
- Lauwersmeer National Park (dark sky park), possibility of walking on the mud flats in nearby Lauwersoog;
- Bare Feet Pad (Opened);
- Kasteel Nienoord (carriage museum and family park);
- City of Groningen 20 km away.
Nice to know; our pigs are fed 2 times a day. It is not allowed to feed or enter the pigs or other animals outside these times. So you will see us walking every now and then. We live 2 kilometers away and are available for questions.
We respect our environment and nature and expect the same from our guests. Do not leave any waste lying around (also think of leftovers from cigarettes and food). Smoking is not allowed on the premises due to the risk of fire.
