About this campspace

In the rustic polders of East Flakkee, near the town of Achthuizen, time has stood still and tourism is in its infancy. In daily life we work in (elderly) care. That daily bustle washes off us when we get home. We live in the middle of this special environment in our farmhouse. We have partly set up the land, 1.5 hectares, as a mini camping site for camper, caravan and tent. There are also 2 gypsy wagons for rent. And if you wake up in the morning to the call of the harrier that startles the roe deer while the carp in the creek that meanders past our mini campsite through a nature reserve and potato fields, you will fully experience nature, the peace and the space. One grabs his chair and goes to enjoy the rising sun. The other came by boat to go fishing on one of the large waters and a cooling dip a few minutes from our mini campsite. The accessibility of cities for shopping is good, as is a cultural visit to places such as Willemstad or Zierikzee. And our place is also a good base for beach lovers. In +/- 20 minutes you are on the beaches of the North Sea, without traffic jams!

We have been living on this beautiful island of peace, space and nature for many years now. We want to share these qualities with anyone who has an eye for them. We both work in healthcare and enjoy living in this polder landscape with our children and (domestic) animals. The mini camping is Aad's hobby and started in 2020. Anouk's hobby is pedigree dogs, the French Bassets and Fox terriers.

The campsite is very remote from a farm, surrounded by arable fields. A beautiful full moon seen over the fields in the evening. Two friendly ponies immediately came to my camper. The sanitary facilities are basic. There is a small house where you can put things in the refrigerator, use the kettle and make coffee/tea. And where you can sit and play games or read.

Very nice atmosphere, there are some games provided and you can relax. To do a real activity, you often have to drive for a while. The hot showers were great and the other guests very friendly. What can I say? What a wonderful holiday. The site was small, friendly, quiet and with perfect views - just as I had expected. The facilities were good and always clean and the option to have late night chocolate when my daughter and I had a craving was a godsend! Anouk and Aad are incredibly good hosts and could not do enough for us. The surrounding area is very quiet and I loved this for my early morning training rides. We went out locally as a family and enjoyed the safe cycle paths (unlike England!). On Aad's recommendation we went to the beautiful beaches at the other end of the Island (40 minute drive). We also spent a day in Rotterdam (1 hour drive). We were absolutely blessed with the weather and returned feeling refreshed and very happy.

How was the contact with the host?
Anouk and Aad were absolutely amazing hosts. Before arriving I contacted Anouk to say we were on an overnight ferry and that we would arrive in this area before check in time and could we check in earlier and this was not a problem at all. On the morning of arriving we were actually in the area way earlier than expected and I popped Anouk a message to see if there was any chance we could get on the site. This was no problem. Both Anouk and Aad were going to be out but they gave us our pitch number and told us to carry on and settle in and we could check in when they arrived back. This was just what we needed after no sleep!

Once we had set up we could not get our bike lock undone so we asked if they could help. Anouk came back with a hacksaw which did the job perfectly.

Contact throughout was first class.

Tips for new guests?
I would highly recommend this site to anyone if they are looking for quiet, friendly and unspoilt. It is very safe for children and it was lovely to see so many dogs coming on holiday too.

The only drawback of the campsite is that if you sleep in your tent on the side of the street, you will be woken up in the morning by the passing tractors. We recommend standing on the other side if you sleep in a tent.

A very nice, simple little oasis of well-being right next to the paddock in the middle of potato and onion fields.

We stayed in a cute, surprisingly spacious Pipo wagon complete with stove and cookware. The bed was comfortable and the showers/toilet facilities were clean. We did not use the pullout couch, but we could have easily slept two (or three) small children or two cozy adults. The wagon also had a deck with chairs to enjoy the beautiful sunset. Lovely setting in a large field between canals.

I came alone by bike and turned out to be the only one camping there that October night. The owner was friendly and cleaned the buildings especially for me. The field was flat and the grass beautiful. There are two ponies. The rectangular field could be a bit more playful in my opinion, but it is much better than many farm campsites where you have strongly demarcated sections. The facilities were adequate and fortunately not as super deluxe as you see more and more these days, as if people no longer know what camping is.
There is a fairly large room where you can shelter in the rain and cold, and from the mosquitoes.

The gypsy wagon was simple, but very cosy, just like in the pictures and with a lovely bed!
I wanted to take a break on my own, just enjoy the peace and quiet and that went perfectly here: open the door, view on the meadows and read a book in bed.
The sanitary facilities are simple but completely in order and clean.
