Rue du Chateau Camping and Guest Room
About this campspace #s001900
Exclusive wild camping next to a pond, between the trees of a young woodland, close to a small river and large fields, this spot offers close to wild camping in a private space in the Scottish Borders. Choose your spot in the woodland, overlooking the pond or hidden in the trees, or down by the riverside.
Grass pitches, no hook up. There are trees for hammocks.
A separate space offers field spaces for a small amount of motorhomes. This does not come with hook ups, is just off a very minor quiet country road, and is some distance from the camp toilet. We would need to assist you with the gates and is dependent on ground conditions, but is a truly tranquil and picturesque spot next to the river.
Horse box houses a small toilet close to the pond.
Fire pits are available for small fires, but no campfires on the ground.
Cyclists and walkers will love the close proximity to forest tracks and single lane roads. Secure bike storage available. Bonchester Hill, Ruberslaw Hill, Fatlips Castle are some great nearby hill walks. Miles of forestry tracks, Hell's Hole is a good starting point to see your exploration choices on a map.
The river is a stroll across the field and on a sunny day offers hours of fun. Areas of stone pebbles and sandy banks, pools to swim in or splash at the shoreline. We have spare towels if you get soaked!
Rural locality gives this site some amazing starry skies and glimpses of wildlife such as red squirrels, deer, pheasant, fox, badger, bird of prey, newt, heron, frog, duck. On the farm we have two ponies a gypsy cob and a miniature shetland, chickens, ducks, two dogs and sheep. We ask that you do not feed the ponies no matter how much they ask, they are super-friendly and like attention.
Fresh water, electric charging points, kettle for hot water, available in the farm courtyard which is a small walk away, (where you will leave your car).
We have one Bell Tent which is available to rent at an extra charge, please message us for details.
The village of Bonchester Bridge is about a half hour walk, which has a lovely pub The Horse and Hound but please check with them first to make sure they are serving food and their opening hours. The Cross Keys in Denholm is 15 minutes by car and a great place to eat and socialise. A twenty minute drive takes you to Hawick for supplies.

All gates to be kept closed. Very important with the livestock.
Pets must be supervised due to livestock and up to date with treatments for fleas, ticks etc. Dogs must be kept on a lead and pick up their mess as amongst other reasons, this does not agree with sheeps stomachs. There are chances for them to stretch their legs in the forest walks.
Fire-pits are available for campfires, and disposable bbqs welcome. Logs will be available at a small charge. Do not strip the young woodland of branches. Dont light in windy conditions. no naked flames, candles or fire lanterns.
Please be respectful of the quietness of the area, no loud music, shouting, this means quiet children and dogs too!
Take rubbish away with you, leave the site as you find it.
Children must be supervised at all times. This site offers a delightful world for children to play in, but not run wild.
