About this campspace

Quinta da Hortelã it's a farm house with a small forest area surrounding a blueberry plantation. Lots of space for tents and easy access for small caravans and small motorhomes.

The setting, although only 25 km from Porto, Braga or Guimarães, (all with quite good train connections from the local stations) is extremely quite with absolute silence, except for the natural water streams and wildlife. Situated in a montain top, it's possible, on a clean day, to see the sea from the garden.

There are two main spots to stay. A flat garden, covered in grass and a forest area, with lots of shade. Access is easy for cars and small motorhomes. Caravans, if too long, can have some trouble with the gate.

There is a complete bathroom, with shower and hot water inside the old barn. This is open 24h.

The barn serves as a room for all kinds of activities. Electricity is easily reached and extension cords can be provided (although these are limited in number). There is a refrigerator and a barbeque available.

There is also free Wi-Fi access by the main house.

During the year there are several activities at the farm, mainly linked to agriculture and culinary.

Outside the farm, within walking distance, you can find a horse riding school, several well marked trails, water falls, a catolic sanctuary with magnificent views and the ruins of an ancient (pre-roman) human settlement.

Within less than 30 minutes you can reach cities like Porto, Guimarães or Braga, all with lots to offer.

We welcome families and allow pets.

There is also a children playground and a small water tank, perfect for a hot summer day.

Due to circumstances we could not get to the camping site at Rui last minute. The cancellation period had already passed, but Rui was kind enough to refund an amount.

How was the contact with the host?
Communication went smoothly.

Tips for new guests?
Be careful, the camping pitch is not in Porto itself, as indicated on the map!

We were welcomed by Rui's daughter. Fantastic camp bed that feels like a hotel with its own bathroom!!
Beautiful swimming spot nearby in the river and the heart of Porto at 15 minutes drive + 30 minutes by train.
In short, a very special camping experience.

How was the contact with the host?
Special to experience that it really is a place that is run by the whole family, both Rui and his daughter and son spoke very good English and had many tips and answers to our questions.

Tips for new guests?
Ask for the swimming spot in the crystal clear stream nearby.
Torsa station with 32min train connection to Porto Sao Bento station (right in the center)

Very quiet motorhome.
Definitely recommended if you like peace and nature.
Very well cared for.
For us this was the ideal place.

How was the contact with the host?
Very pleasant and friendly person.
Always available for questions and he also explained to us what you can do in the area. He also gave us a tip to go to Porto by train because of the expensive parkings in Porto itself.

Tips for new guests?
If you like peace and nature, this is definitely the place to be

Perfect place to have a shady camping spot. Green grounds of the quinta with trees, boulders and blueberry bushes. Beautiful old shed turned to place for campers to eat and play games with a nice bathroom. In the area you can go on nice walks, mostly in the shade too! There are some waterfalls and a river nearby. Close to many cities. We recommend this place!

How was the contact with the host?

The host was very welcoming and helpful. He responded quickly to messages. The stay was in a beautiful location with good facilities. We enjoyed the environment. The host was very hospitable and ensured a perfect stay. I would recommend this location to anyone who loves nature and tranquility. Also the location is good for trips to Porto. Tip: Bring your walking shoes! The path along the river is definitely recommended. And when it is warm, swimwear is also recommended.

Wonderfully peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings. Friendly welcome and Rui was very helpful with tips and even took us to the station for our day trip to Porto. The station cannot be reached by bike or on foot. In the village (3 km) there is a good restaurant with local dishes. The road to the Quinta is very narrow and the turn through the gate is difficult with a large camper, with our Bus Camper it just went. Sanitary is fine.

How was the contact with the host?
Very good, speaks fluent English

Tips for new guests?
Restaurant at 3 km. By train to Porto, difficult to get to the station and from there 40 minutes by train to the center of Porto.

Very nice couple. Welcome back anytime.
