About this campspace

In the Limburgse Kempen, at the foot of the Oudsberg in Oudsbergen (Gruitrode), lies the 15-hectare blueberry plantation of the Schrijnwerkers family.
The Oudsberg is the highest and largest open sand dune in Flanders. It rises 85 meters above sea level and is surrounded by beautiful heathlands, forests and grasslands. Since 1998, the Oudsberg has been recognized as a Flemish nature reserve.
Step to the top of the Oudsberg from our plantation. On foot, by bike or MTB. Our plantation is the perfect starting point for numerous cycling and walking routes in this vast wooded region! Via an entrance gate you come directly from our plantation to the cycle route network. (car-free piece)
From mid-July to mid-September, you can enjoy a delicious piece of blueberry pie in the cafeteria every day. Our farm shop is therefore open daily. In the fall it is also wonderful to stay on our plantation. The picking activities are then over, it is a bit calmer and our plantation is shrouded in beautiful autumn colours. Prime location. Great again. Ultra friendly people who take the necessary time for you. Yet because of the amount of work they do during the day. Chapeau we were warned that it is a working company that there can be some noise in the morning, fortunately we set the alarm once that we could hear the noise. It's not too bad. And their blueberry pie is unbelievably delicious. THANK YOU we will definitely be back

Scout Iris About the scout program

Tell us about your experience
We arrived on the site, you immediately get the blueberry farm feeling! Tractors and a large field with plants were greeting us on arrival. We got a good size parking space for our campervan. Some other people were already camping here with their campers or cars with rooftop tents. But there was enough space between all the spots. It was a lovely and quiet place at night. The blueberry fields were right next to the campspace which gave pretty views. There were two sanitary options. One with only toilets and the other one with showers. You share the facilities with the seasonal workers or at this moment in time with people from Ukrainia, who were fleeing the war. There is also a shop with lots of blueberry products and a lovely little library. From the site you can directly do a 3 hike into the forest and the dunes. The times of arrival and departure were super flexible which we appreciated a lot!

How was the contact with the host?
It was perfect, Ruth was very helpful and explained us lots about the blueberry farm and all the products in the shop

Tips for new guests?

Tell us about your experience
It was a short holiday where I only pitched my tent for 2 nights, but I had everything I needed in the peace and quiet and pleasant surroundings of the blueberry plantation.
Great to take a closer look and to walk through.
It is a beautiful location in a full natural environment.
I have made wonderful bike rides there.
In the shop they have delicious own products of which I will certainly look for the nearest store in my area to keep my stock up to date.

How was the contact with the host?
Everyone I asked about anything was very helpful and friendly.
Even the owner who came home from his daily tour by truck after supplying shops with their products, took the trouble to have a nice chat when I was enjoying the sun on their spacious terrace.
A place to go back for sure.
Now it was just for a while, but definitely recommended to bring company.

Tips for new guests?
The oat biscuits with blueberries, the dried berries for tea, the honey in which the taste of the blueberry blossom can be tasted, are highly recommended.
The rest of the products I took with me have not yet been tasted, but will probably also be direct hits.

You are located close to junctions and that is ideal for planning walks and bike rides according to your own abilities.
The Brouwershof in Opitter is close by on the market square at the church and was my favorite place to eat something delicious and very cozy. Also very friendly service.
There is an outdoor and indoor terrace at the campsite and the shop where you can purchase an assortment of delicacies and drinks.
To take with you on a walk or bike ride, it is neatly packed with a smile, just like gift packages that you want to put together in the shop yourself.

Tell us about your experience
We had a very nice weekend at the blueberry plantation. Our pitch was perfect for this time of year. We stood alone on a newly acquired property right in front of very large trees with a view of the blueberries. Why was the place perfect for us? We had sun in the morning, shade in the hot afternoon and in the evening the sun shone slightly past the trees so that we could enjoy the evening sun a little longer. What you have to be aware of in any case, you camp there during ongoing operations. Not that the work there was noisy, but the sanitary facilities are shared with the seasonal workers and these are not separated into males and females. So don't be squeamish. But if you act a little anti-cyclically, you hardly get in each other's way. The showers are pre-tempered, which means you cannot change the temperature yourself. But that was ok, the water was never too cold and we are so-called "wimps". It's just not a classic campsite. If you need electricity, no problem either, there are enough cable drums there. In the in-house cafe and shop you can taste and purchase everything to do with blueberries. The cake was awesome. Only the adjacent N370 can be heard until late in the evening, depending on traffic. At night everything was ok, with us!

The camping area is a grassy field next to a container village for seasonal workers on the farm. At 11 pm some machines started making a lot of noise, and a tractor started to drive across the field next to the camping field. Fortunately, this only took fifteen minutes, but it made the camping experience a bit strange.
In addition, we did not expect that all facilities were also shared with the seasonal workers.

How was the contact with the host?

Stayed two nights at this campsite.
Nice flat surface with a view of the berry fields.
Location is great. You can walk and cycle into nature via the path. Dune belt is close by.
Enough toilets, even a disabled toilet.
Unfortunately, there were also a number of drawbacks to the stay.
The grass was mowed but not collected. As a result, you are constantly running this in the camper / tent.
Drinking water can only be tapped at the store via a hose. Difficult to fill bottle. Only available during store opening hours. On Sunday I could not tap water unfortunately.
Showers to be used at the refugee reception center location. In the evening it is very busy here. The space is a Turkish bath. There was no one there on Sunday morning. Showers cannot be adjusted in terms of heat. Also go out every few minutes.
Were not clean either.
There was no gray water drain from the camper.
I was not bothered by this myself, but there is no general refrigerator.

How was the contact with the host?
Very kindly received. We received a good cycling map and explanation / tips of the area.
The couple had forgotten about the power and it was provided by the host.

Tips for new guests?
There are only two places for electricity. So if you need this I would book in advance.
In the morning it is not crowded at the showers.

On arrival it turned out to be full harvest season and it was reported that we could have some trouble with the pickers who would start very early just next to the camping spot. On the other side of the camping spot was a container village where the seasonal pickers apparently resided. We left immediately. All understanding for the seasonal activities, but that should have been communicated in advance. Then we would not have booked (read paid).

How was the contact with the host?
Contacted the day before, only confirmed by noon the day after that there was still room. Only communicate about possible nuisance after payment and arrival on site.

The title says 'experience the blueberry', but apparently not everyone knows that blueberries have to be picked in the summer. The definition of 'nuisance' is also different for everyone. For 95% of our visitors it is a nice experience to experience the harvest (June-Sept) up close. The description also clearly states that we are an active fruit growing company between June and September. We have consulted with our current guests and they experience absolutely no inconvenience. Meeting everyone's expectations is no longer possible nowadays. You could have come in, we could have looked for a solution, but you have chosen to leave without signing off or a word of explanation and to write your story on the internet. We gladly refund the money. You will then have to contact us. Salute Team Blueberries.
