As a native of Doel, I would like to introduce you to the ravaged scheldt village of Doel and its rich history

The coolest experience ever had I think.

You don't go to this campground for luxury. You should only go here if you are looking for a bizarre experience in one of the most bizarre villages in Europe. The place itself is beautiful, surreal and therefore very special. You are in the middle of the village with a special view of the nuclear power plant.

How was the contact with the host?
Very well. Kevin was very clear, and gave very cool tips.

Tips for new guests?
Kevin has very good tips!

The place where nature and industry come together. Doel is a place where you have the sound and the view of the harbor on one side and the nuclear power plant in the backyard on the other. About 23 years ago, the intention was to expand the port towards Doel. This would make Doel unlivable and many inhabitants left. With the arrival of the nuclear power plant, even more inhabitants left, until only about 18 inhabitants remained! Doel has stood still in time ever since. Nature has been given free rein and has taken over the idyllic village. A true mecca for urbexers and fans of graffiti. On the former football field and tennis court, the extremely friendly host Kevin, together with his wife and some residents of Doel, have renamed the site into a camping site and a starting food forest. From their grounds you have an unobstructed view of the nuclear power plant aka Wolkenfabriek. The camping site is a particularly beautiful place with a fantastic contrast between industry and nature, where you can also clearly see how nature has managed to take over the place in recent years and has managed to survive. Simply beautiful! The former changing room now houses a toilet and washbasin and the camping site is supplied with electricity.

A place that you really have to see and experience with your own eyes!

Top location, super quiet, beautiful surroundings with a unique view. Be sure to take a walk in the village with its known difficult history. Basic facilities available (water, electricity, toilet), so you don't need more to disconnect from the 'civilized world'...

Mini campsite in a unique location for campers who do not appreciate a shower with hot water, a clean toilet, a decent washing facility and do not care about litter lying around on the site. During our 10-day cycling trip through NL and BE, this was by far the most expensive and least comfortable campsite. All in all a special experience.

How was the contact with the host?
The reception by and contact with manager Kevin was most friendly.

Tips for new guests?
There is no sign to the campsite. You enter the site via an unpaved and muddy path on the east side of the former school on the Engelssteenstraat in Doel.

Unique place! You are standing on a large natural site with a view of the Port of Antwerp and the cooling towers of the nuclear power plant. Or you choose a field surrounded by tall poplars. Fire bowl present and you will be left alone after a nice conversation if you wish. Doel is an almost deserted village, largely bought up by the Port. But the residents are fighting to stay. Cycling through the Hedwigpolder with information point about the adjustments there. A special experience. Kevin, thank you for your hospitality and greetings from Ruigoord ;-)

How was the contact with the host?
Good, hospitable reception and a pleasant conversation. Then Kevin left us alone in complete freedom.

Tips for new guests?
Arrive before 6 p.m., then you will still enter Doel. The driveway to the camping area is the first dirt track after the former school. Keep driving and you will arrive at a large open field. You will find Kevin at the canteen or in his allotments.
