Welcome to Birkelund Camping & Outdoor. A campsite where I offer unique overnight stays in original Kyrgyz yurts, flying tents, an "upcycled" cabin and a wilderness shelter.
My focus for the place is sustainability, biodiversity and good experiences for my guests.
There is access to a toilet and shower. There is a ball field and a playground. Dogs are allowed.
- Little Kyrgyzstan with the original Kyrgyz yurts
Overnight in an original Kyrgyz yurt added modern conveniences such as a good bed, fridge and electric light. The yurt is heated with a small stove. It keeps a nice warmth on a winter day.
A yurt is a hemispherical felt tent used by nomads on the steppes of Central Asia. Yurts are common in Mongolia, Western China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Afghanistan.
Most people know Mongolian yurts. However, our Yurts are Kyrgyz. Yurts are so widespread in Kyrgyzstan that the ceiling ring of a yurt is depicted in the center of the Kyrgyz flag. The ceiling ring on the flag is encircled by 40 sun rays, which symbolize the 40 tribes that are combined to form one state.
Each yurt can accommodate four people, as well as a child in a weekend bed. There is a cozy dining area and an interim kitchen with a fridge and gas stove. Plates, cutlery, pots, pans and other kitchen equipment. Outside, you will find a large fire pit where you can grill and enjoy a bonfire.
Bring your own duvets, pillows and bedding or sleeping bags.
- The Flying Tents
Get your day off to a flying start when you wake up to a new day. Overnight in a flying tent. The tent hangs between three trees floating under the large beech crowns. "The Flying Tent" has room for 3 people.
A unique experience for hikers and cyclists, as well as for the outdoor enthusiast who has tried most things. Cozy for the small family - the children think it's "cool" to spend the night floating a few meters above the ground.
When you approach the tent, it most looks like a UFO about to land. The tent is triangular and measures more than 4 m at each joint, so there is plenty of room for three adults or two adults and two children. The tent carries a whopping 400 kg.
The tents hang at a height of approximately 1.8 metres; to get into the tent, you step on two wooden stumps, put your bum on the edge of the tent floor, and swing your legs up. Be aware that the smallest children must be helped up and down. When you lie down in the tent, you basically lie down like in a hammock.
"The flying tent" hangs in a discreet corner under large beech trees bordering an old garden. The foliage must be lifted up, and you must be shown the way to find your way to the Flying Tent. The campsite is close to the cycle path, so it is obvious to arrive by bicycle. A cozy camp site has been made below the tent. You can prepare your meals over the campfire.
If you are inexperienced in primitive camp life, you can rent a camp tool box with the necessary equipment. In the box there is, among other things, the large black African pot on three legs. It is easy to place in the fire. And with plenty of space for the whole family's favorite stew. There are no eating utensils in the camp utensil box.
You must bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping mat.
- The Upcycling Hut
The cabin is an upcycling project. Previously, the building was only a shed for storage - now it has become a cozy and comfortable overnight cabin.
99% of the materials used for the renovation are either recycled materials or self-produced planks. The planks with which the roof and walls are covered are sawn from trees that have stood on the site, thus the CO2 emission in connection with transport is eliminated. Inside, the walls have been renovated with faulty cupboard doors.
The floor has previously been in a sports hall in Aarhus; the men's national team in handball has trained on it.
The furniture is also recycled and upcycled.
At the hut you will find a campfire with benches and a table, and in the hut you will find an axe, pots etc. for primitive camp life. Live the cozy primitive camp life around the campfire and go to bed in a warm and soft bed. Bring your own bed linen and/or sleeping bag.
There is no power outlet and WiFi coverage here. Forget time and place without being online.
The cabin can be used in both winter and summer. In the colder months, you can switch on the heat pump, which heats up the cabin very well.
WC and shower are approximately 50 meters from the cabin.
- The wilderness shelter
Completely unique shelter, which is located in a cheeky corner of the plot. Definitely the right choice for the beginner.
The shelter is comfortably furnished with reindeer skins and hooks made of antlers. The wood-burning stove is the ideal place to put the pot of evening coffee. In the morning there will be no discussion about who has to get out of the sleeping bag to make coffee - the maneuver can be done from the sleeping bag.
Fire pit and table-bench set at the shelter.
Firewood can be found in the sheltered fence or can be purchased separately. Camp tool box with axe, saw, pots, pan and some kitchen utensils can be rented.
We are located a short distance from Skjern Å - come and catch a salmon.
The area offers plenty of opportunities for wonderful walks in Skjern Enge.
I LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOME YOU!

With me you can find accommodation in a traditional shelter, in the Flying Tent, in the cabin "The 8th Wonder" or maybe an original Kyrgyz yurt? The cottage and the yurt can also be rented in the winter. During the winter months, the shelter is free to use.
I have a broad experience in outdoor life. Today I own Birkelund Camping & Outdoor, which I am trying to pull in a new exciting direction.
Skjern Å offers fantastic salmon fishing.
Hiking in Skjern Enge is always magnificent.
Storegade 16 - 18 (about one and a half kilometers from the square) is run by two local women. Here you get hand-turned ceramics and recycled yarn.
The local pubs near the train station.
We recommend "Stuen th" approximately 7 km from the square in the neighboring town of Skjern.

My husband and I had a fantastic experience staying overnight in Henrik's charming Kyrgyz yurt. It was an unforgettable and unique experience that will be remembered for a long time. The best thing about the yurt was its authenticity, which allowed us to experience the Kyrgyz culture and way of life up close. The yurt was well equipped and had everything we needed. The only thing we had to take with us was the fun. We completely relaxed, enjoyed each other's company, enjoyed a glass of wine, played cards and grilled delicious food. In the cupboards we found all the kitchen equipment we needed, such as pans, pots, plates, mugs and cutlery. There were also two hotplates, which made cooking even easier. The yurt was truly a unique and different experience that I would highly recommend to others. It is a place that must be experienced. In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to Henrik for his hospitality. It was a real pleasure to talk to him and he was incredibly friendly and welcoming. His hosting made our stay even more enjoyable and we really appreciated his friendly nature.
How was the contact with the host?
The communication with the host was extremely satisfactory as he was incredibly quick to respond.

Fantastically lovely Yrte. 3 days without TV and emails and WiFi. I found a good book. Haven't read beaker in the last 5 years. The place is nice and quiet and there was plenty of space around Yrten. You got right down to gear and really relaxed. When you met others in the square, you greeted each other. Bathing and toilet facilities were super and always neat. The place is really worth a visit.
How was the contact with the host?
Super nice. Helpful.
Tips for new guests?
There are so many different ways to stay overnight so everyone can find something to their taste.

My fiance and I spent the night in one of the flying tents and it was simply such a cozy experience! Quiet and peaceful atmosphere, cozy surroundings and nice location. I can definitely recommend it!
How was the contact with the host?
Henrik is simply such a sweet and kind, and down to earth man. He was very helpful in getting us in place, and was there for questions and wonder. He really made the experience a 5/5 star experience!

Very cozy and cozy accommodation in early September. Animal skins on tent walls and camel wool rug on the floor and crackle in the small indoor wood stove. Nice campsite host Henrik on the site, Birkelund. And then Black Sun at Baggens Dæmning at the northern end of Ringkøbing Fjord was the icing on the cake along with a clear shining batte star sky. So absolutely magical!

Nice helpful host and a lovely place. The best place where you are more to yourself and can relax well. The main road relatively close (bushes and trees in between, as well as a bike path) I did not think was disturbing, even if you hear it. A place I could easily find to come again.

I would like to give a great recommendation for this place.
We were a family of 4 away with two small children of 1 and 3 and we enjoyed the place incredibly much.
The yurt is so cozy and there is everything,
the furniture to use - we had duvets and blankets and nightwear with us and it was plentiful.
We cooked on a campfire and there was a nice campfire dish but a large grill so it was also perfect.
In addition to the Yurten being so nice, we also loved the facilities at the campsite - it was nice to have a playground and a place to wash up. And the whole area was super well maintained and whimsical with lots of little ring to spot.
We will definitely come again. - so it would also be perfect for a friends weekend but bonfire food and drinks (and there are 2 yurts)
And since there is a wood stove and quite well insulated, it can also be used in autumn / spring.
Just see that get going 🤓

A fun and different way to sleep.
We were two adults and a child, and we rolled a bit towards the middle of the tent, so the weight distribution should probably be more even. Be aware that there is not much space in the tent itself for luggage. We stored most of our luggage in the car.
The tent hangs in the woods on the edge of a campsite with good facilities for both bathing and cooking. Friendly and welcoming service.
It is also a really fun experience for children and there is a nice playground they can frolic on.

It was a really fun experience to spend the night in The Flying Tent! Note that the tent site is primitive, so it will be an advantage to bring a can of water, as there is little to go to the kitchen and toilet. It is possible to buy firewood on site. Earplugs and mosquito spray are also a good idea, there are mosquitoes between the trees and a country road nearby. We can recommend taking the canopy off, so you get the most amazing look at the treetops! The tent is located on the edge of a very child-friendly campsite.

Super nice and cozy place. The campsite is clean and nice. There is a family atmosphere on site. The yurt is really nicely made, and contains everything you need.
However, it should be mentioned that one shares a campfire with the other yurt. This can be a little special if you really just want to be yourself.
Recommendable experience.

My boyfriend and I have just visited "The Yurt with the Leaning Door" and we had a really wonderful stay. :)
The yurt itself is quite nice. It has a double bed, two single beds, a small fine wood stove, a dining table and a small primitive but well-functioning kitchen. However, we made most of our food over campfires, which it is very suitable for. There is a large fire pit with grate and the host Henrik happily lent us pots etc. that had to be used thereafter. We could buy firewood for a small 50s and then there was far more than we needed.
The yurt is part of Birkelund Camping, but is located at the other end of the site, where there is no view of so many campers, so it is a nice mix of privacy and proximity to the campsite's facilities (toilets, kitchen, pool, etc.) .
The host also has a small nice kiosk with some local quality goods, cold sodas and more. which is a really nice and nice concept. The campsite is also very clean and inviting.
We have been really happy with our stay and would love to come again, therefore Henrik deserves a big praise from here!
Note!
Had there been guests staying in the other Yurt (right next door), it is my impression that we should have shared a campfire with strangers, which would have taken some of the joy out of our experience. I would therefore recommend others to be aware of this - perhaps especially in high season.

Truly a thoroughly cozy and accomplished yurt. We enjoyed our days there and can highly recommend. The kids loved it and said it was the most beautiful place they had slept. We have enjoyed the local area and enjoyed the place with mini golf and playground👌☺️

Super cozy Yurt and a wonderful experience! It was really Glamping at full throttle, we had everything we needed in the small tea kitchen and down the facilities at the campsite. And super nicely decorated Yurt with many nice details and we were received so well on the square, so just a super experience I would definitely do again!

Food over campfire smoke in the hair, cold beer in the glass, sun in the blue sky and a nice Yurt - what's not to like 🤩.
Had a great weekend in The Kigis yurt
However, had not liiige agreed that you should spend 2 kroner (as in 2 kroner coin) at the bath .... Luckily we got some of the sweet neighbors.
Definitely worth an experience 👍

We had a wonderful weekend. The yurt is so nice and perfectly decorated and Henrik is very helpful.
There is a bouncy castle, mini golf and pool at the small campsite, but the yurt is beautifully located at the opposite end, so you can easily be yourself.
We will definitely come again

We lived in a flying tent, under some big trees in a corner of the grounds. There was a fire pit and a wheelbarrow full of firewood for a 50er. It was a cozy place I will return to. There was a table and bench set, and even though it was drizzling, we sat in dry weather. We bought hats from Kyrgyzstan when we arrived so we had lovely warm heads.

Staying overnight in the Kyrgyz Yurt has been an absolutely amazing experience. Cozy decor, ambiance and so comfortable. A great place to get down in gear and just be together. Enjoy the quiet end, nature and each other.
Our host, Henrik, has been so sweet and helpful. We highly recommend this place.
We will definitely be going again, and this time for two nights to get more out of the wonderful experience.
The best greetings

A wonderful evening and night in the 8 wonder.
The place is cozy, the cottage is perfect and it is even warm although it makes so much noise we did not sleep with it. Henrik who has the place will on occasion replace it with a small wood stove, but we can do without.
It was just wonderful to sit by the fire, cook at the same and just relax. There is all the firewood you need, good bed, 20L water and since the cabin is located in a corner of the campsite there is a hot bath and for summer even pool if you wish.
The cabin / square is located on the edge of Skjern meadows so there is also the possibility of a walk.
We would love to come again, we will try the yurt of the square. They just looked mega cozy.
Henrik who runs the place is very welcoming and service-minded. Henrik's small shop has delicious coffee, sweets, ice cream, etc. all organic as I remember it.
Nice place. Go with you.

We had a really nice overnight stay in the Kyrgyz yurt on a rainy and cold weekend in March. It was no problem to keep the heat in the yurt, as the small wood stove provided good heat. There were all the facilities we needed and we will definitely take an overnight stay again another time!

A really good beginner-outdoor place. Primitive outside with fire, work table and seating. Good comfort inside with delicious double bed, heat pump, everything in service and dining area for 2 people and service for cooking over a campfire.
Good welcome, the cottage was heated when we arrived, there was firewood and water ready for us.
Remember a few light chains on battery, earplugs if you want the heat pump turned on at night and bedding or sleeping bag.
We will definitely come again👍

Cozy and atmospheric cabin, where there is what you need to light a fire and cook over it. Outside there is room for cooking and dining, but on a cold February evening we chose to eat at the table inside by candlelight.
There is a heat pump inside, but since it is a bit noisy, I would recommend either a pair of earplugs or a set of ski underwear (so it can be turned off) if you visit the cottage in the winter months :) Definitely worth a visit!

We knew very little about what a yurt is, so we arrived without expectations. But we were very pleasantly surprised. The yurt is really big inside with a double bed and two single beds in fine quality. In addition, there is a small kitchen with various equipment, a wood stove and a dining table in the middle of the room. Outside of these, there is plenty of room to move around in it.
It is nicely and secluded in a corner of the campsite. There is electricity and access to water and toilet within a short walking distance. There are quite a few activities on the site, but we were there in the winter, so of course they were closed.
As a place to stay for a family with children, it was super cozy with time and space for fun and board games. We stopped cooking and drove into the gut where there are fine options for shopping and take-away.

Completely fantastic cottage with incredibly good surroundings.
The cabin was equipped with all the basics to make a good time measure over campfires, as well as plenty of fires.
There were tables and chairs both outside and inside.
Henrik was also a really nice host.
The heat pump inside made it possible for me to sleep with my boyfriend here on February 13 despite massive freezing temperatures.
Go to this cabin if you want to go out into nature and have fun

What a wonderful place. It was icy cold outside, but mega cozy and so lovely a cabin. We got all the way down in gear.
Perfect with toilet facilities close by and so cool that there was no electricity or sockets so you could come and be present. We talked to Henrik, who owns the place and he is betting on having a wood-burning stove installed inside the cabin, which would just make it even better.
We would definitely recommend it to others and we would like to get started in slightly warmer temperatures though.
Kind regards Jens and Sara

Had the most wonderful overnight stay in the shelter and the flying tent with our family with 3 children aged 6-14 years.
A lovely peaceful space with all necessities and empty pool. Unfortunately, we did not manage to try it. So we'll be happy to come back.
A super helpful camp host who just helped us with what we had forgotten, with a warm Jutlandic smile.

We had a wonderful night in Jurten. However, we do not understand at all why each herb does not have its own fire pit? It seems very strange to have to share with the neighboring herb - especially when the campfire dish is closer to their yurt than your own and you pay for the firewood yourself ..

Very friendly reception and nice showing of the place.
The cabin was dirty and there was a lot of cobwebs in every corner. Dishes and pots / pans were dusty and filled with cobwebs.
There is a lack of equipment to remove pots / pans, etc. from the fire, possibly potholders
