Your host

On our food forest in the making (of 1 ha) is a quiet place where you can pitch your tent. We have a compost toilet for our guests and an outside tap. You can borrow a bucket, for example to wash yourself. This makes you feel detached from "normal" facilities. Tjalleberd is close to Heerenveen. There is also the possibility to swim at various locations about 5 km from our house. We have a tandem and 2 bicycles for rent and a vegetable garden and strawberries from the open ground from July to September. Vegetables, strawberries and eggs are for sale, if available. One km away is a milk tap at an organic dairy farm. You can use bottles from us. Various walks can be made from our location, mostly unpaved. If we have time, we would like to give you a tour of our site. If you stand in front of our house, you cannot see the land. This gives a surprise effect ;-) A cozy seat has been made of tree trunks at the camping site. Bye! Nelleke and Peter

Very welcome, helpful and immediately had a nice tour of the site. Lovely spot. Nice view. Quiet and back to basics.

Scout Miranda About the scout program

This lovely campspace is hidden in a very big backyard of a family in Tjalleberd, Friesland, the Netherlands. Back to basic, a whole mini forest for yourself, using a outdoor toilet and no electricity. Space to walk throught their garden which they are designing as a natural food forest. I loved it.

When they can harvest their crops, it is possible to buy vegetables and fruit from them. In the neighbourhood you can buy fresh biological milk.

Want to go out? You can walk in the surrounding to the church of Tjalleberd or around the meadow and through a small forest. Maybe you will spot some deer. There is a swimming lake nearby. And you can visit the National park "de Alde Faenen (30 minutes by car or rent their tandem and go on bike). Or a closer nature area, Oranjewoud.

I had a wonderful two-days with myself in nature, thanks to the hospitality of Nelleke and Peter. A beautiful food forest in the making, with beautiful pigs, nice chickens and delicious fresh strawberries. At the back of the site was a nice row of trees to set up my tarp (but there are more places to chose from), atmospheric tree trunk discs served as the perfect seating area and the compost toilet was nicely enclosed with some tarp for extra privacy. Not that you will meet anyone else. The hosts are there for questions and a chat, but will leave you alone otherwise. Just walk past the pigs in front of the outside tap and with a filled water bag you basically no longer have to leave your spot. Wonderful place to get away from the rush of daily life and to reconnect with nature and yourself. Recommended!
