About this campspace

Our Campspace can be found on our own road in Bornerbroek, in the middle of the beautiful Twente countryside. Enthusiastic about our own (roof) tent holidays, we are happy to share this place.

Here you can enjoy the peace and nature, walk barefoot through the morning dew or go out. Our house is located in the nature reserve 'de Doorbraak' near the Nijreesbos.

In the meadows around our house you regularly see deer, hares, rabbits, pheasants, many birds and also the neighbors' sheep. In addition, our chickens (Max, Bliksem, Kota, Blacky, Flanny, Rooster, Johanna, Kato & Giraffe), cats (Musj & Wilhelmina) and our dog (Ares) roam around the yard.

You can discover the area through one of the many walking/cycling/MTB routes, two of which pass our house.

In the pleasant center of Almelo (5 km) there are a number of cultural hotspots such as the Wevershuisje, the Bolletje Museum, the City Museum and Huize Almelo where the current count lives. You will also find nice restaurants and cafes there. On the other side of our house you can discover the surprising town of Delden (10km), where the Salt Museum is located. There is also the Twickel Estate with beautiful gardens and walking/cycling routes.

To enjoy the crackling wood fire and the accompanying singing, you can borrow a fire bowl and purchase one if necessary. wood with us. You will have to sing yourself.

There is an excellent Twente restaurant within walking distance (500m). So if you don't feel like cooking and want to have a nice drink on the terrace, you can do that!

Our sanitary facilities are deliberately basic: we offer cold water from the tap at home and a compost toilet.

If you are looking for a nice spot, away from the crowds, in the beautiful Twente landscape, then you have come to the right place. Situated on the edge of the meadow with a view over the fields and, in clear weather, the endless stars at night. Several walking and cycling routes in the immediate vicinity of the campspace. Enjoy and no frills.

During the Pentecost days we camped wonderfully with Danny and his wife. Our pitch was on the edge of the sheep pasture and we had a beautiful unobstructed view. Rest, sun, plenty of space, walking routes around the door... everything we needed. The compost toilet is neat and clean. The grounds are well cared for and tidy. You have to be able to handle cold water 😉 We felt very welcome and we can recommend this place to everyone.

Lovely spot.🏕
We were able to put up our tent somewhere near the chickens and the vegetable garden for two nights and relax.
Just nothing at all!
Cackling chickens, bleating sheep, a nice sun, the smell of the countryside and a mat on the ground by the fire bowl 🔥
What more does a person need.
You have a lot of privacy and there are beautiful walks in the area.

Haven't seen everything in the area yet, so will definitely come back!

How was the contact with the host?

Very nice and pleasant contact.

We enjoyed our stay with Danny very much! The place is behind a shelf meadow, next to the chickens and a vegetable garden. If you come with a campervan you have the whole place for you and even a private toilet (compost). There is the option to borrow a fire pit – we enjoyed the campfire every night.
There are plenty of hiking trails in the area and there are also plenty of cycling routes.
We will definitely come back when we come to Twente again!

How was the contact with the host?
The hosts are very friendly and hospitable people. And Ares, the dog, is a sweetheart too! You will receive all information about walking routes, cycling routes and things to do in the area in a folder on arrival.

Nice spot there in the outskirts of Almelo! Enjoyed the spring sun. And in the colder evening (it was freezing at night) a nice fire was lit with the wood that was ready for me. Wonderful micro adventure, nice basic camping. Went home with a smile.

How was the contact with the host?
Very well! Quick response to the booking and I was able to come the same evening even though they were both not at home. Everything was ready, with a warm welcome note. Very attentive. In the end, both hosts were still met and talked to. Nice relaxed conversations. That is that little bit extra when you are in someone's garden.

Tips for new guests?
Light the fire, of course. I let the cold pool pass me by, it was already cold enough in the tent ;-)
And of course just book this campspace!

Spontaneous night of winter camping in Twente. Great fire pit with wood available for being brave enough to camp in the cold.
Waking up by the crowing of the rooster and then a quick dip in the freezing cold pool.
Compost toilet was new and comfortable, much nicer than I expected!
The only downside is that you can still hear the highway well and have light from the city.

How was the contact with the host?
Quick response from the host, nice reception and we were well looked after!
Because the outside tap was closed, we were allowed to get water in the house.

A fantastic base for adventures in the Almelo area. You are close to the city, but you sleep on a neatly mowed field with a view of the meadow, the vegetable garden and the chickens. Wonderfully quiet :) The hosts are super friendly and thoughtful and have made a folder with fun things to do in the area. It felt more like going to bed with friends in the yard than going to the campsite. We will definitely come back for a longer stay!

Mark

Tell us about your experience
First of all, I would like to say my overall experience at this campspace was good and the hosts were very nice. I had a relaxing two nights at this spot and recharged after week of office work.

Regarding getting the camp space, I do not drive so I went to the closest train station which is Almelo de Riet. Uber from the station to the campspace is not possible (sometimes it is in remote places). The host graciously met me and helped tote my luggage by bike to the campsite. No issue.

The campspace has two main areas ( I believe ), one for caravans and one for tent pitching. I used the latter.

One thing about the tent pitching side is that is really felt more like someone's backyard (it was) than a field on someone's property repurposed to a campsite, with an above ground pool, soccer goals, and swing in the tent pitching area. The view was good if you face your tent away from the main property into the field adjacent to the property, which is what I did.

The campspace does not have many amenities, besides the compost toilet which is standard. The process for getting water required me to go to the side of the host's house (sometimes late at night) and use the hose to fill up my water bottle, which wasn't very flattering and I felt kind of creepy. Most camp spaces have some kind of outdoor sink for brushing your teeth and getting water. Also, note there is no shower (I forgot to look into this before booking).

Once again, my overall experience was good. I would recommend this Campspace for someone looking to pitch a tent in this area.

How was the contact with the host?
They were very helpful.

July 2022

Host Danny has responded

Hi Mark,
Thank you for your review!
And yes, it is somewhat primitive, just cold water and a compost toilet. We have deliberately chosen this.
The idea of CampSpace is that you share your garden and environment with others.
