Camping in the food forest

About this campspace #s002282
In 2001 we started developing a food forest on our site of approximately 2 ha. The forest is now growing rapidly and offers space for intimate places to stay or camp.
There is therefore plenty of room for placing tents on the intimate camping field with facilities such as electricity, sanitary facilities and WiFi, or you can camp off grid in the food forest with us. The latter is for the tougher campers, who have a somewhat more secluded spot, water and a fire pit by the tent. On the off grid places you cannot use the indoor sanitary facilities and you will be asked to bring your waste with you!
Note: When registering, indicate whether you want to be on the camping field or off grid!
We also offer two restored retro caravans on the camping field. A Chateau caravan from 1976 and a Knaus caravan from 1977. More than forty years old and now in a condition like never before. You can spend the night here cheaply and very nice with the two of you.
The location is at the foot of the Hondsrug in Drenthe and is an ideal starting point for a large number of nice excursions, beautiful walks or cycling trips. Guests are allowed to use the entire site and, if they like, make a fire on the fire pit in the evening. (wood is usually available for a small price)
Note: If you come with a camper, bus or caravan that is longer than 4 meters, we charge a surcharge of € 7.50 per night (please indicate when registering and pay on the spot)
Campfire wood you can usually buy here for a small price and bicycles if available you can use for € 5 per day.
There is hot water in the part / sanitary room and there you can use a refrigerator if you want.
This place is an ideal opportunity for you to relax.

Meet Harro, your host

I enjoy being active in nature and with this beautiful place and I enjoy sharing it with our guests.
In addition to an indoor B&B, I rent out two retro caravans and a few camping spots on the camping field in the middle of this area. Finally, we have some special "off grid" spots for campers who like to be a bit remote and enjoy simple camping.

Great small-scale camping site. We almost felt on our own. We had a fire pit right in front of our tent, our dog was very welcomed and the host very friendly. Will definitely be back.

We really enjoyed our stay in the "off grid" campsite and our hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We would give our hosts 5 stars and would recommend this campsite who wish to getaway and enjoy the peaceful surrounds.

Spent two nights with the bus camper at an otherwise empty campsite at the end of October. Warmly received by Harro; nice spacious place in the food forest and wonderfully quiet. Even nicer places for (small) tents. In the shed a cupboard with products from your own garden to take with you for a personal contribution. Had a few nice days!

My friend and I wanted to get out for a weekend. No other people just lots of space and the freedom to make a fire, cook and drink a beer. This location provided everything we wanted if you like less = more

De Witte Buizerd is a lovely small scale camp space with very spacious and natural camping spots. During my visit it was really quiet, which is exactly what I was looking for.
Harro made me feel very welcome and all amenities were there. I had a lovely stay. Keeping this one in my bookmarks.

The host was very friendly and welcoming. The location was very nice and well maintained. It was our first time to use Campspace and we are now big fans of the concept. We can highly recommend this location and we will definitely come back here.
The contact with the host was quick, easy and accurate. The location is wonderful. It is really possible to stay in an isolated spot in a beautiful area. Harro is cultivating his land into a very nice semi-wild kind of forrest/field. Bring everything you need: as promised there is only water, a hole in the ground and a place to light your fire!
We really enjoyed staying with Harro. We were warmly received and there are good rules to keep it safe for everyone during Corona time. Beautiful environment which we discovered on our paddle boards. The site is well maintained and you are sheltered between beautiful surroundings. We would like to come back again.

We experienced camping at Harros as a fun adventure. Is it just using the hudo (#doyouneedaholeintheground). Harro has created a beautiful place in his food forest. We were welcomed and shown around; nice to see how enthusiastically he talked about the area. There may also have been a deer roaming around. Unfortunately, we did not see it, but that should not spoil the fun because you are surrounded by greenery on all sides. And what could be better than waking up in the morning from an orchestra of birds. You call this enjoyment in its purest form. Do you still have doubts? Take it from me, you won't regret it.
I had a great time at Harro's. A nice and pleasant host and hostess. Great caravan I stayed in and because of Corona private toilet and good shower room that was kept clean by myself. The garden in which the caravan was located was beautiful. Very quiet area and a small village in the immediate vicinity with a local supermarket, a bakery and a butcher. So fully equipped. The immediate area is beautiful for cycling and viewing the dolmen is definitely worth it. You can stay at the campsite with a dog if he is on a leash
We stayed here one night with a tent on the bike. We were warmly received and informed about the rules during Corona. We were also shown around the site. What beautiful terrain. We were allowed to put up our tent wherever we wanted. Wonderful to wake up in the morning with those wonderful nature sounds around you. Especially the various species of birds. Highly recommended, we will visit again.
We decided to have a short three day holiday at Harro s Campspace. Hosts Harro and Anke are very friendly and welcoming. ??The garden is wonderful, spacious and beautifully arranged. The Forest Garden is slowly growing with new vegetation. ??In the evening and in the early morning you are greeted by a variety of bird songs. And we were lucky enough to be greeted by a nice cat taking a stroll. For walking enthusiasts, we recommend visiting Het Boomkroonpad (different walking distances) and Drouwenerzand. Our stay was wonderful, quiet and relaxed. Just what we needed.
It was very good at Harros. He is very hospitable and has a beautiful place. We will go there again!

As soon as you leave the main road on the way to this Campspace, you are surrounded by fields and trees. The Campspace is located in a small, quiet town surrounded by beautiful nature like the Drouwenerzand (5 km away) and large areas with forest and heather. Harro came outside as soon as we arrived and gave us a warm welcome. He showed us his beautiful garden and told us about the plants growing there and the insects living there. The garden is very big and therefore you have plenty of private camp spots to choose from. You can camp on the main field, in the orchard or near one of the patches with wild flowers. There is a separate bathroom, toilet and dishwashing place and its all very clean and tidy. For nice summer evenings there is a campfire spot and theres fruits in the garden. Harro is very kind and he knows where to find the best attractions in the area. This is a great spot if you want to explore this part of Drenthe, and/or if you are just looking for a place to slow down and enjoy being surrounded by nature.

I found the location, host, and atmosphere fantastic. I plan to come back again, while I usually never do this, in the same place. I highly recommend staying with Harro. And tell him what you plan to do in the area, he will provide you with appropriate and fun advice. It is noticeable that Harro gets energy from the enjoyment of his guests
We had such a nice stay here! Harro and Anke are warm people who will do anything to make your stay as best as possible for you. We felt very welcome and enjoyed both a night in our own tent and our stay in their cosy, retro caravan. Waking up grumpy is simply impossible between those retro, colourful curtains! It was very special to us to see how these hosts truly share what they have: we could set up our tent anywhere we wanted, borrow bikes, harvest from their garden but they also respectfully left us alone so we could enjoy time together, the peace and quietness of the site and the beautiful(!) surroundings. The harmonious, small-scale character of this spot is truly unique go experience it for yourself!

If you are looking for the cutest place to stay in Drenthe; you found it! This caravan is just amazing. Its situated in Harros amazing garden, a perfect place to slow down and enjoy being surrounded by nature. Inside, it has a cosy sitting area, a comfy bed and a tiny (but completely equipped) kitchen. The caravan is far from new, but in excellent and clean state. There is a table with benches for outdoors diner and you can go for a nice walk in the large garden full of fruit trees, wild flowers and insects. The bathroom and toilet are in the shed, also in perfect condition. Your host can tell you about all the nice things to explore in this area; Drouwenerzand, large forests and heather fields, the boomkroonpath (a path through the tops of the trees),etc. Its a perfect place to start hikes, bike rides and road trips, followed by a quiet evening in the garden

What a beautiful quiet place in Drouernerveen deep in Drenthe. Harro received us kindly and immediately showed us the spacious garden and facilities. The green garden, surrounded by tall trees, is sun-drenched and has many intimate areas in the shade for romantic and peaceful enjoyment of the surroundings. Harro said we could pitch our tent anywhere we wanted. We could use the refrigerator and the sanitary facilities and we could also separate the waste there. What a nice place. We will definitely come back here!
I first stayed at Harros. That was a very nice place among the beautiful vegetation (plants). Dragonflies and birds in abundance. Very much enjoyed it

What a beautiful place! We were welcomed very friendly and we had a nice, spacious place for our campervan. Quite private due to a recess in the food forest / garden. There was wood to build a fire. The only downside was the compost toilet, where a lot of flies came from. Nevertheless, we would have liked to have stayed an extra night.

We went off grid here. Nicely manicured open space at the end of his garden with a space for a campfire. Place with a lot of privacy. We were allowed to pick fruit in his garden. We were also allowed to use the sanitary facilities belonging to the mini camping.

Last week I stayed a night at Harro's Campspace. I had an off-grid spot all to myself (because of Corona the compost toilets cannot be shared, so there was only room for two off-gridders). So nice and quiet! Harro was extremely friendly, showed me my spot and just left me alone, although he said that I could always come if I had any questions. Did not see him again until the next morning when waving goodbye. So top, exactly what you want! The terrain is beautiful and playfully arranged with different heights of grass, all kinds of trees and bushes. Not an even football field, very nice! After a day of bike packing, you can easily spend a night here. In the evening there is also plenty of opportunities to walk in the beautiful surroundings, and in the morning (very) early you will be treated to a musical concert by the thousands of birds in the nearby forest. Behind the campsite (and therefore fairly close to my spot), there is a road. It's a back road where maybe one car drives by every half hour. I did not experience this as disturbing, even at night. Really recommended!

A wonderful place to camp! In the middle of greenery, fruit trees, and flowers in abundance. Committed hosts who give you complete freedom and make you feel welcome at the same time. Really a very nice place that I would like to visit again in the fall (during harvest time)! The corona measures are properly observed.

We loved that we were able to stay at De Witte Buizerd, when most other campsites were closed. We enjoy nature, space and campfires and that is what we got. The two hosts are friendly, welcoming and interested. They are growing a beautifully laid out garden/food forest where we pitched our tent. The surrounding area is perfect for cycling (touring and MTB). The site is save for kids. A sand-, mud pit or swing would help keep them entertained.

Camping in the Netherlands has taken on a new dimension for us. A great place in a great province. The space of the campsite, peace, and simplicity has given us a wonderful weekend. Harro is a pleasant host, easily accessible and gave us that free feeling that we were looking for.

Contact with the landlord was fine, man is friendly and explained everything neatly.
The "off grid" was a bit wide and therefore disappointed me a bit.
The place was quite open and you saw and still heard other people.
The fact that your car is next to your tent gives a kind of trunk camping.
There was also a lot of noise at the back in the evening from people driving back and forth on a loud moped and occasionally heavy music.
For this reason you don't really have an off grid camping feeling.
It was also my first time camping and can therefore not compare with other places or customs.
I do like to go camping more often via campspace when I hear the stories of others

It was a great stay last weekend, Harro is very friendly and a good host, he gave us a warm welcome and he showed us a good location due to the bad weather. Furthermore it was a clean and easy place. Also the location is great, we went to Groningen and thé Boomkroonpad, and had diner at 25 graden noord adventure! I would for sure recommend this place and Harro as a host!

Great location! Harro is a very friendly guy and had everything nicely organized. The mini camping is great, offers a lot of privacy and has a nice overall atmosphere. The sanitary was clean and well taken care of. We wanted to watch the stars at night, but noticed that the light in the bathroom cabin was switched on all night and was very bright. This probably made it more difficult to watch the stars. The overall experience though, was a very nice one. We would definitely come back here again! Maybe even go for an "off-grid" camping spot next time.

The host at the Campspace site in Drouwenerveen was a nice guy, gave me good instructions. The campsite was very neatly kept and at the same time it felt as if you were in the middle of a big wild garden. Plenty of space and very basic which suits me. Would highly recommend it to campers looking to connect with nature in a very peaceful surrounding

Super location, very quiet. Friendly reception. No more than a few other campers. You can pick berries, blackberries, etc. on the site. Everything very neat and clean! With camper van it is best to use the back entrance, ask Harro about this.

Harro was a wonderfully attentive host, and we had a nice overnight stay, off the grid. He has a jerry can with water for you, a nice spot on his land and otherwise wonderfully quiet. Back to basic.
July 2020
The campspace was great and Harro was great. Harro responded very fast and is flexibel. The campspace was what we expected and more. Clean, spacious and cosy with the other people. Harro came by later to make sure we had everything we needed.
