Great location! I do like some primitive, for you feeling remote, rugged forest and then you're in the right place with Evy. The tip that Evy gave in advance to bring something against the mosquitoes was not an unnecessary luxury (the wooded area also has a fairly large pond with standing water).
The forest is fairly rough, but especially for tents a small hill has been made fairly smooth to comfortably pitch your tent here. For (smaller) camper vans there is the possibility to park close to the gate, the house and the wooden chalet (with bar, football table, sofa, wood stove and toilet). The location is therefore certainly suitable for the somewhat poorer weather conditions.
All in all a beautiful natural environment to relax. Dry Firewood is available on site, and there is more than enough opportunity to gather wood from the forest.
The area offers various activities and options, such as a visit to Kasterlee, where there is also a kayak rental. Or touring around by bike, this part of Belgium also has the well-marked cycling route nodes as we are used to in the Netherlands, or enjoy a lovely walk in the many nature reserves. For example, a 10-minute drive away by car, you have the Hoge Rielen nature reserve, where signposted walking routes of 5 and 8 km have been set out (referred to as nature walk), also suitable for (trail) running, a beautiful area, especially if the heath is in bloom.
