I had a great weekend with Sala and friends. A wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and interesting conversations about music, religion, art and everything. Sala Place is a versatile experience between art, dogs, chickens (cocks?), forest and simple amenities.

How was the contact with the host?
Sala is an open and spontaneous host who never ceases to amaze you when you get to know him better.

Tips for new guests?
Beautiful setting for cycling and walking. The highway is present in the background. It is a stone's throw from Genk with many restaurants and other amenities.

While passing through, we ended up at Sala's place on a rainy evening. Yuba, his playful dog, who curiously comes to meet you, but then leaves you alone. Unless you want to play. Looking up you see an ingenious climbing course, built by the host himself.
With our small tent we found a somewhat higher and dry place to sleep in the forest. It was free to use Sala's kitchen and sanitary facilities.
The chickens happily roamed the grounds between special sculptures (made by Sala).

How was the contact with the host?
If you want to meet someone who is unique and wise, Sala is the right place for you. He gives you a warm welcome, is generous in sharing his space where needed and very friendly to deal with. And stories? He can write a wonderful book about it.

Tips for new guests?
make sure you can stay a little longer!

Very welcoming and friendly people! Nice garden en space to chill. It was a bit rainy so we didnt spend a lot of time outside, but I think if the weather was a bit better its really a little paradise! Would happily come back again.

Thinking back brings a smile to my face. On the one hand it was nothing, sanitary as in a normal house clean, on the other the space, the atmosphere and the freedom of the animals. Children in particular can enjoy themselves 100% with climbing and clambering equipment, bathe their feet in the pond and cuddle with the chickens.

How was the contact with the host?
Very warm, but also with his friends who lend a hand. They give you the feeling of being welcome and it doesn't matter if you are young or old (in our case).

Tips for new guests?
If you are looking for something with luxury and bells and whistles, then this is nothing, but if you want to enjoy a very green environment and you do not have high expectations, this is very special.

Step into the world of Sala and let yourself be carried away. It's crazy!

On arrival we are warmly welcomed with the questions: “what is your goal? What's your plan? What do you want to come here to do?” I let his questions come in for a moment, because my head is still processing all the first impressions of the terrain. We soon find our way and enjoy the children clambering through the climbing forest. The friendly passers-by from the neighborhood who give free rein to their creativity in the studio. Or just come for a drink and a chat.

There is a lot to do and experience for young and old at Sala's Place. There is a super cool climbing forest. You can walk with Sala through the swamp and the forest. And camp freely in the woods with your tent. For vans there are 2 to 3 spots on the site on the edge of the forest. There is also an abandoned slaughterhouse nearby for the real urban explorer.
In addition, there are many and very social animals on the site, such as dogs, a cat, a lot of chickens and roosters, especially the cuddly chicken Herman. Success guaranteed for a great micro adventure!

In the evening you can sit down by the campfire and enjoy the beautiful stories Sala has to tell. And believe me, there are more than enough.

Sala, many thanks for the great time. We will definitely come back!

How was the contact with the host?
Super. Sala is a very cool, adventurous host, for young and old.

Tips for new guests?

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Genk. Partly thanks to the warm welcome of Sala and Inge. It is pleasant to stay, high in the trees, but also cozy in the evening by the campfire. Our dog was close friends with the dogs of the house and our son was close friends with chicken Herman. Worth repeating!!

For us it was just a switch on arrival. Share sanitary facilities with the owner, among other things. But it soon became a super cool experience. Especially the climbing course, with good guidance was great. A cozy campfire every evening. Scattered cuddly chickens, sweet dogs and cats. And at that time we had a very nice large group of other guests.

How was the contact with the host?
Sala is very welcoming and sociable. Takes the time for you to tell things or have a nice conversation.

Tips for new guests?
Nice that our dog could come with us. You can walk straight into the woods from the site.

You shouldn't be here for the great luxury, but we weren't looking for that either. There is a nice casual, free and restful atmosphere where both animals and humans can relax.
Children can be a child here and romp in the woods.

How was the contact with the host?
The host is always friendly and always ready so that everyone can enjoy their holiday.

Tips for new guests?
Luxury is living in freedom.

Tell us about your experience
A quirky place, impressive ropes course (though didn't have time to do this myself), set in a grove. Unfortunately, this grove is located between a busy road and a train track ... That makes it a little less idyllic.
Sanitary and kitchen are in the host's house, and in my opinion should be more okay for that price.

How was the contact with the host?
Sala is a sympathetic host who clearly has his heart in the right place.

Very messy……
There are 2 places in the forest that do
be ok
Toilet very primitive

How was the contact with the host?
Friendly

Tips for new guests?
Hippie vibe, if you like that then ok
If you want a clean place without clutter around you, then you should look for something else

Tell us about your experience
We were not exactly welcomed, the host was clearly not aware of our reservation and would rather not see us come, we were impressed. There was a place on the edge of the forest but that was super soggy and we just collapsed with our camper. (is also close to a motorway so a lot of noise). When asked if there was a possibility to make a fire, we got the answer to look for stones and wood in the forest. In winter everything is wet so that was not an option.
Very unfortunate in the end because all the other reviews were very good, but our experience was very different.

Tips for new guests?
Maybe better luck in the summer?

Host Sala has responded

I am open to open communication.
Each perception can be interpreted in different ways.
If there is something discuss it.
I like to hear it and for every problem there is a solution.
If I may give you/the world some advice....
Never assume that you have an idea what others think of you. Because you're radically wrong
