Het Speelberg team

Sleep peacefully in a comfortable and romantic Bell tent in the orchard of the idyllic organic farm 'De Speelberg' close to the city of Leuven.
#despeelberg

Under the walnut and fruit trees, surrounded by horses, next to the Chartreuse forest and with a view over the hedge country valley, you will automatically relax.

Everyone can play on the Speelberg; challenge yourself on the trapeze, trampoline, high swing, slack-line or circus hoop.

You can cook in the communal outdoor kitchen on the covered deck or on a tripod by the fire pit.

Take a shower in the open air with a view over the fields and feed our trees using the compost toilet.

What do we provide? You will stay in your own Bell tent in the orchard, which is part of a larger farm. You will possibly share the orchard with other tenants who you will meet at the communal outdoor kitchen and cozy fire circle. In any case, we keep the numbers small while the place is big and everyone has their own corner to relax.
You will be surrounded by grazing horses, watched over by our friendly big guard dog and sang to by owls, crickets and howling foxes.
In the tent you have electricity, drinking water, light, information brochures and a double bed with fresh sheets and towels.
In the communal kitchen you will find water, a sink, fridge, a gas stove with an oven, cooking utensils, plates, glasses and cutlery, coffee, tea, olive oil, salt and pepper, washing-up liquid, towels, sponges and toilet paper. Basically, you just have to bring your own food!

It is wonderful to relax and meet at the fire place. We provide firewood for which we ask for a free contribution. You can also collect your own wood in the forest. We provide a large barbecue and a barbecook (tripod with large pan to hang over the fire).

There is a long dining table with chairs on the covered deck. You will also find a small table with two chairs at your own tent.

You can fill the cast iron bathtub with water and light a fire below, after which you can bathe in the orchard. We provide biodegradable soap and shampoo and toilet paper for the eco toilet.

If you would like to come with more than two people you can bring your own tent for an additional charge of 15 euros per person per night (children under 12 years for free).

As a guest you can bring a guitar but we prefer not to have amplified music. We don't see our neighbours but they can hear us :)

What can you do in the area?
- Explore the Chartreuze Forest and Hike the Chartreuzen Walk
- With children you can discover the natural playground of ‘the Provincial Domain’
- Discover vibrant Leuven at 8 km
- Eat in the super cozy restaurant of our neighbours 'Het Bed van Napoleon'
- Follow a workshop at 'Huize Chartreuze'
- Visit the Castle of Horst (the Castle of De Rode Ridder!)
- ...
Ask us about the reduced prices from the third night!

Wonderful weekend away, close to home. Nice green environment. Good atmosphere. Cook and eat in the open covered kitchen. Make a fire in the evening before going to sleep. An oasis of peace!

Have a wonderful weekend! A special place that had exactly what we needed: tranquility, a green environment, away from the crowds but plenty to discover! The fire pit was top notch, as were the kitchenette and the many hammocks that could be found all over the property. Thank you!

What a relaxing weekend! At a stone's throw from the center of Leuven, you will find yourself in a true oasis of fields, forests and absolute tranquility. Cozy outdoor cooking, with horses in the foreground, nature sounds in the ears, unique for those who enjoy pure disconnection. Waking up with nature's alarm clock, a fresh shower in the open air, what more could a person want. An absolute must!

How was the contact with the host?
All right down to the last detail. The host, Helena, was enthusiastically waiting for us, gave us an extensive tour and made us feel right at home.

A cosily furnished tent, a brand new outdoor kitchen with dining table and chairs, its own fire pit, sufficient firewood, company of dog and horse, hammocks everywhere, a trampoline and large gymnastics mat for endless fun for our boys, nostalgic tree swing, extra blankets because cold first nights, warm outdoor shower (we have to go back for our own hot tub), bustling Leuven nearby, in the middle of a beautiful walking area, enthusiastic hostesses, beautiful view. Which wishes have not yet been granted?

How was the contact with the host?
Very friendly, nice how they have managed to give this place with family value its own twist.

Tips for new guests?
The toilet is a compost toilet, so be aware of that. We also thought that it was "part of the fun", shoveling with sawdust instead of pulling through and a view over the field, but good to adjust to that.

We hope that guests come to enjoy the sounds of nature and leave their amplified music at home. We don't see our neighbours but they can hear us! We like to keep it quiet after 22h.

We tend to our farm with the biggest respect for nature and its animals and expect the same from you. This also means that cigarette butts and other garbage belong in the bins.

Only bio-degradable soaps are available and are the only soaps to be used on the land.

Extra people should bring their own camping gear (tents, mats, sleepingbags,..) The additional fee is 15 euros per person per night.
